Huge upcoming Release: Mr.gas & Major_Tom are going to release a massive ‘Hacking Package’!
If we take a look at the past, we will see that the duo Mr.gas and Major_Tom (also known as Tomtomdu80) always had some neat tricks up their sleeves, which, in the end, enabled you to do some cool stuff with your PS Vita.
This time the duo has yet another trick up their sleeves, and you can believe us when we say it is going to be a huge release.
You might remember the internal ID list, which was handy for calling the ★ Package Installer (via: psgm:open?titleid=NPXS10031) and some other hidden Applications, don’t you? This one is similar, but it does not only allow you to open hidden Applications, but also allows you to virtually dump anything¹ you want.
Dump, I said? That is correct. Tom & Gas’ have found a way to pretty much dump any file of the Playstation Vita, ¹as long as said file follows the requirements (listed below).
This enables you to not only dump a few applications, but also system files and even parts of the PS Vita’s NAND partition! This is a huge flaw, which, unfortunately, will be patched with the next Firmware update.
E-Fail Application & Explanation
This is not a typo, it is intentional. The E-Mail application of the PS Vita is highly flawed, and pretty much every method of dumping the files involves it.
You have to call a support_uri via the e-mail application, just like we used to do it in the past, for calling the ★ PKG Installer and other hidden applications.
The support_uri contains 3 parts, which are the following ones: Support_uri + file path + dot/period/fullstop (whatever name you prefer).
An example of a working support_uri would be the following one: “email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db.”
Keep in mind that there are a few requirements that apply, and if you cannot follow them, then you cannot use this.
You cannot dump any file that is larger than 2 Megabytes in size.
You cannot dig deeper than 7 directories at a time: ux0:/Subfolder1/Subfolder2/Subfolder3/Subfolder4/Subfolder5/Subfolder6/File7.txt
This only works up to Playstation Vita System Software 3.52. You read right, the next firmware patches this, unfortunately.

While all this sounds really technical, if not complicated, what does this offer to the normal PS Vita user? You will be surprised how much this can offer you!

ETA? What to do in the meantime?
While we cannot give you an ETA yet, we can tell you what you can do in the meantime, though.
As Mr.gas mentioned in his release, you could take a look at your very own app.db (database), which might be useful in the future.
In the end we would like to thank Major_Tom and Mr.gas for this huge upcoming release, which will vastly improve the PS Vita’s quality of life!

Sorry for posting this as a reply, the “post a comment” area keeps appearing for a quick second then vanishing. Reply seems to be the only way to post. Tried Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
Sorry if this has already been asked, but:
“– Make CMA backups for anyone (without linked PSN account)”
Would this allow for the installation of PSM and then rejuvenate hack on 3.52?
Thats what i said to ya momma xD
this is wonderful news. keep up the good work guys. and thank you for the article the zett. it was a great read
So with this will I be able to play my japanese psn games on my US account?
Woooooo boy, I like all of that, especially the change region and pstv stuff
Awesome. So vita can dump and play 150z now.
Technically it would be R0mZ, since the Vita games come from a Cartridge, not a Disc.
Something something, I didn’t read the article correctly and therefore I think this will be an exploit.
so many goodies!!! yummy!
i got goosebumps when I first read this
the vita is making progress ‘;..;’
The major question I have is will this allow us to dump our vita cartridges and then be able to play the games without needing to carry around all our games because that’s the one thing that gets me is suddenly wanting to play a game I have but I’ve forgotten the cartridge and won’t be able to get the cartridge from home for awhile
What u really mean to say is u dont want to buy any games
Or maybe he did buy the cart legally and wants to use a backup so he doesn’t have to carry around multiple carts wherever he goes.
Oh wait, that would go against your prejudice of anyone using a ROM is a filthy IP steeling pirate who should be shamed for wanting to use his purchase in a way that Sony (hallowed be thy name) has not blessed him with. We can’t have that right?
that argument is getting old now come on lmao
No, what’s old is people assuming that people who want backups are pirates. What if your cart gets destroyed somehow? I personally like to go physical as much as possible, but if one of my carts is rendered unusable, I still want to be able to play the game. Is that so wrong?
bruh the memory cars are more expensive than the games…
Bruh… you could put multiple games on a memory card. Also, last I checked, the memory cards are re-writable… delete a game and put another one on there? I know, crazy though.
Yeah I agree, the game cartridges weigh like tons, not gonna carry them around anywhere!
Way cool. Vita backups? Custom bubbleS? Yeah!
heck yes. This is going to be awesome. Yesssssss
“Cartridge backup installation”…
So it begins!!!
0.o
hype train!!!!!!!!!!
This is absolutely amazing news! Thank you guys for all your hard work, it’s great to see the vita scene exploding! Is there any chance for a Rejuvenate port or bubble exploit? If I’m not mistaken, this doesn’t enable native homebrew, right?
This is incredible news! I can’t wait for what’s in store next for the vita!
Um, this is *** gigantic.
Wow, that sounds pretty interesting. Much interesting stuff on that list. 🙂
Wauw, huge breakthrough
(First btw)
I appreciate all the hard work these two have done on the scene. I do have to admit, this is some really exciting news and everything. I’m not trying to sound spoiled or ignorant, so I apologize if I do, but isn’t this a little early for them to announce this? Seeing how Sony is gonna release a big firmware for the PS4 soon and the possibility that the same may apply to the Vita as well, it would have been better to hold off this information until the next firmware is released. That way, all users could enjoy both Tomtomdu80 and Quikrazor’s methods while Sony works overtime, and possibly spend a few months coming up with patches that can block both exploits. Within that time window, we would all have online access and working exploits. Again, I am not trying to be disrespectful nor am I ranting. I just feel that revealing the major security flaw is a waste when it could be used on the upcoming FW.
That’s a pretty silly statement considering it would just happen again and again. Even if they wait for the next firmware It’ll just be blocked on the firmware after that and then the following new adapters to the vita wont be able to use it.
They already mentioned twice in the article its gonna get patched in the next firmware anyways.
Holy noodles, this is great
so. i need upadate me vita on 3.18 for 3.52 ?
You crazy bro?
nope
wow
Oooooooooh man!
I might get another PSTV for this.
I need update me vita on 3.18 for 3.52 ?
Meh, the only part I cared about was the trophy hacking. Too bad I’ve no vita 🙁
Hi, im actually at 3.50, should I update before the next patch that fix the email app or should I stay at 3.50 to use the psm hack ?
Please answer, thanks.
Update to 3.52 and make use of all the online features until Sony releases their new firmware.
If you update to 3.52 you won’t be able to use the rejuvenate hack, so think about that before updating.
Every month, many progressions towards a truly “hacked” PS Vita are met. The devs put so much effort in towards the goal of unlocking the potential out of the Vita. It’s insane how far we’ve arrived since Rejuvenate. It’s only going to get better from here on out. Expect greater things in the near future!
First!
lol
This is amazing thank you guys.
1 word as a response: Awesome!!!
Thanks, Mr. Gas and Major Tom! (and The Z too for relaying the news!)
To The Z: Seems like you misspelled “unfortunately” as “unfortunally”. I might be wrong though.
Fixed, thanks!
“PSTV
– Run unplayable games
Registry edition
– Switch PSN account”
Sweet! Hells to the yes! These two reasons, mainly the first, are why I am super stoked for this. I just want to play all my VITA/PSP/PS1 games I own/purchased on the PSTV, and not be denied for trivial reasons. Thank you guys for all of your hardwork. I can’t wait for the update.
When I type that string in my email nothing happens
I want to kiss u guys………smoochies
I have tears in my eyes….finally the long awaited…..sniffs sniffs
Kisses kisses and some more kisses……..love uuuuuu sniff
that string email:send?attach=ur0:shell/db/app.db. is not working for me… when i type in my vita email app nothing happends plz help me
Wow, the day of reconing has comenced…release the kracken!
People are going to get mad about “Cartridge backup installation” until they realise they still have to dump the cartridge With Hardware andnhave to plug in the original Cartridge everytime they reboot…
Better clear that out
I take that back 😡
Sorry 🙁
Great work tho
2015.. year of the Vita.
my ps vita is not activated with my psn account, so will this hack allow me to play my own backup without updating and activating to psn ???
So, probably going to lose the PS1 loader and whatever exploits that are only on 3.18, is there any other disadvantages from updating from 3.18 to this? Kind of want to update now that the PS Plus games, and few other retail games are growing in number that needs a higher firmware
Everything that works on 3.52, also works on 3.18 (with the exception of Custom Themes – Those require at least 3.30).
Okay that’s good to know, thank you.
But lately I’ve been looking for a reason to update since the number of games that needs a firmware higher than 3.18 will continue to increase.
I’ve only stuck around on 3.18 cause I really did not need any new games for awhile but now they are piling up (I have a few PS Plus and retail games now, expected, but now its a bummer)
Is the PS1 Loader (The one that exploits the PS1 vita emulator so it allows sound and any other vita exclusive features like screenshots) the one thing that I will definitely loose?
