Famous PSP & PS Vita developer Qwikrazor has some good news for those of you, that would like to use an eCFW on their Firmware 3.5x Playstation Vita.

A new kernel mode exploit is going to be released in near future, which will allow you the usage of the ARK-2 eCFW on your Playstation Vita & PS TV.

But what can you do with the ARK-2 eCFW?

The ARK-2 eCFW is pretty much a port of the PRO CFW, which enables you to use a PSP CFW for the PS Vita’s build-in PSP emulator.

While this sounds like an easy job, this has most definitely not been an easy task. The ARK-2 eCFW is based on the PRO CFW, but heavily rewritten to properly fit the PSP emulator, and to give you the best experience in terms of usability & speed on your PS Vita.

The ARK-2 eCFW (Emulator Custom Firmware) is indeed capable of playing ISO & CSO games, this means PSP games, but it can also run Homebrews, of course.

The ARK-2 eCFW is not as limited as any of the Vita Half Byte Loaders (VHBLs), and can therefore run more complex Homebrews than the VHBLs can.

It is of course also possible to run your PSN bought games, regardless of them being PSP or PS1 titles.

Speaking of PSOne titles, there is a small drawback. Despite the fact that Playstation One games are playable via the ARK-2 eCFW, they do not have any sound at all (due to limitations).

Nonetheless, you are able to use PSP Plugins with your PSP, PSN & PSOne games, even if the latter ones will be mute.

The ARK-2 eCFW comes with its own Proshell navigation menu, which can be exchanged for the simpler 138Menu, if you prefer the 138Menu.

Qwikrazor’s kernel exploit for the PS Vita’s PSP emulator will work on any firmware which happens to be version 3.52 or below.

It will most likely be patched in the very next Playstation Vita system software, unless the kernel mode exploit release is postponed until said new Firmware is available.

Despite the fact that the kernel mode exploit does work on Firmware 3.52, it is highly recommended to stay on firmware 3.36 or 3.18, since those lower firmwares have more attack vectors than the more secure firmwares 3.5x.

Some of the major upsides of firmwares 3.18 & 3.36 are that those versions don’t have the /PSP/GAME/, EBOOT.PBP & PBOOT.PBP protections, but also do these lower firmwares offer you the PKG Installer (only <3.30), Rejuvenate (<3.52) and of course the Custom Bubbles (<3.50).
