You can now enroll to be a beta tester for PS4’s upcoming 3.00 firmware
Playstation are now opening Beta tests to the public for the upcoming PS4 firmware 3.00.
The Marketing team at Playstation just announced that everyone can enroll to be a Beta tester of the “PS4 System Software Beta”.
The Beta is planned to start early September, and to sign up for the Beta you only need to provide your PSN ID on a signup form. Of course, you also need a PS4.
Sony mentions that a limited number of beta testers will be accepted, and this seems to be on a “first come, first serve” basis. Specifically, they stated “if you’re interested, sign up sooner rather than later”.
The Playstation blog indicates that more information on the PS4 3.00 Firmware, and its feature, will be given as the Beta gets close. Some of these features have already leaked from one of the Beta testers of the early closed beta test.
Rollback to previous version, an interesting feature for hackers?
It is stated on the PlayStation blog that Beta testers will be able to rollback from Beta Firmware 3.00 to 2.57. Historically, Sony are trying really hard to make it impossible to “downgrade” their consoles. New firmwares contain security patches, and it is common wisdom that a lower firmware means in general more security vulnerabilities (PS4 firmwares 1.76 and below have a known webkit exploit, for example), so this “feature” sounds intriguing to me.
It’s pretty much guaranteed that Sony shielded their beta against some tinkering, but I would be interested to see if some hackers investigate this “rollback” mechanism.
The full announce from Playstation blog:
Calling all PS4 fans! Before we launch our next major system software update, we’re running a beta program to test its functionality. If you’d like to get a sneak peek at the features of the new system software, and help us with feedback on ways to improve it, sign up today.
You can sign up to be a beta tester here. You will need a PS4 system (of course), an Internet connection, and a master account — sub-accounts cannot participate in the program. Make sure you’re a member of the PlayStation Forums in advance to get access to our beta forums. Also, beta testers will be able to roll back to the previous PS4 system software update (v2.57) anytime.
The beta program will start in early September, and we’ll have more information on the new features included at that time. We are accepting a limited number of beta testers, so if you’re interested, sign up sooner rather than later.
Thanks in advance for helping test the system software update — your feedback will go a long way toward making this even better.

Beta testing exploit patches?
Nice one, Sony.
wow goood
this could be amazing if the result was less frequent AND more stable updates, just to avoid mandatory “stability improvement” or the 2.55 “no space available” feature
So they might hopefully include some more features, which really needs extensive testing. The (currently available) feature list isn’t really stunning.
I think many of us deserve an explanation as to why you haven’t posted updates on the recent info regarding the World of Pool exploit for 3.52. Because on hackinformer, they have removed the game from their list and also have greyed it out on their hacking guide. We deserve an answer to this. The longer you wait, the more money people are going to waste on this potential non exploit. This will indefinitely make you a fraud and a liar to this community.
