Will Sony’s next firmware for the vita be a major security update?
What’s going on?
Sony could be releasing a new update soon that could bring some bad news.
What could happen?
As of now things aren’t looking too good for the Vita. A new update hasn’t been brought up by Sony in a while, which indicates that Sony might be busy working on a new update that could be a bulk patch of newly introduced vulnerabilities. The EML write trick, the long-awaited custom themes, custom bubbles, and so on…
This means that updating past version 3.52 wouldn’t be a smart move. It is your responsibility to not update, as far as we know at the moment updating could patch current vulnerabilities on 3.52 and below.

As Sony is taking forever to produce their new fw for the vita, it might be a big security update, I’m worried many things will be patched.

This tweet was posted not long ago by Vita developer Major_Tom, it discusses that Sony could be working on a security update for the Vita, he also brought up the patching of custom themes. Another known developer by the name of Smoke hinted that he believes that the update could also remove the email application.
Who is Major_Tom?
Major_Tom is a very well-known Ps Vita hacker and developer, he introduced us to many feats In the past including the EML write trick, installation of PSM Dev for Unity (With Mr. Gas), the ability to play unplayable Pstv games, custom themes…
Here’s a video showcasing one of hit latest feats:
When is the update going to be released?
It’s hard to tell for sure, we’ve had surprise Vita updates in the past that patched vulnerabilities and added features like 1.80…3.51 and 3.52 . Sony has kept quiet about an update so far…
Don’t forget to check out the revitalize homebrew contest! (Remember you have until Sept. 30th to enter)
First
Smoke just posted on twitter that his tweet was a joke.

I know but who knows what Sony is going to do… I’m just suggesting that snything can happen in the new update.
Something can happen at ANY update, the next one isn’t anything special from the ones before nor we have any clues about Sony actually preparing something big for the next update, you just jumped the gun badly from someone joking on twitter.
This article seems a little bit exaggerated.
Nothing to see here. Don’t bother reading.
The quality of this site has seriously plummeted in the past months, starting with the Amazon deals affiliate links having their permanent place on /talk, continued by clickbait and unverified articles and finished by switching from being mostly a news site to being mostly a personal blog.
If anyone would tell me what does this “article” have that it’s worth being published, please tell me because I see no point in it.
the Amazon affiliate link on /talk is a tiny link that has replaced 3 gigantic adsense banners. I do not start to understand how you can even think of this as a regression. I’ll be honest, it is beyond me that people find a way to criticize my efforts to reduce the amount of advertising on the site, I’m getting tired of that attitude. Nothing is free so get over the entitlement.
For the rest, I’d say it’s everyone’s personal opinion. There are no more clickbait articles on this site today than they were 1, 2, 3, or 4 years ago. So either we’ve been clickbaiting the scene for years, or you’re just getting more annoyed at some stuff as you’re growing older.
I am not pretending our articles are perfect, far from it. We’re all flawed, none of the writers on this blog are professional journalists, and everyone’s doing their best to write accurate content. It is an unforgiving niche where the tiniest mistake get scrutinized and criticized by (literally) thousands of people every day. We usually have one or 2 pair of eyes to write and review the content, versus thousands that read it. Talk about an unbalanced game, we simply can’t win 🙂
To be clear: the best way you have to improve the content on this site is to offer to be a blogger here as well, and do better than the others. I like doers, and I’ll always side by them, no matter how “bad” their content might be, because at some point they are people who decided they could actually do something to try and help the scene, rather than trying to tear everything down. Not saying this specifically about you, but again, I’ll take a mediocre writer/blogger every day over a super skilled critic/commenter. Think about it. This is true for bloggers on the scene, and devs/hackers as well of course.
In other words: join the other side of the fence to see how you like your content being regularly criticized. Or maybe prove to other bloggers that they write ***? Either way works for me.
@nonijod
If they did not have those filler articles, the site would feel somewhat empty, in my opinion.
I have seen sites that do not post anything for weeks or months, and it usually gives the feeling that there will be no more articles from the site.
That said, hopefully this site never ends up being as bad as some sites are (75% lies, deceptive articles, more lies, worthless articles, etc.)…
I really don’t know what you mean. As a reader for 3 years now, I can say that this blog has shown much more love for the Vita than sony themselves, it has been talking about the Vita even when there was barely anything to talk about in the first place. It was this blog who kept my vita from being a paperweight in the first years.
If you are talking about my 2 cents articles, I can take this criticism and even understand your it, but to talk about the rest of the entries and bloggers, that I think is unfair.
I’d rather have that link up there then ads, at least something I might find useful could be up there. I’d be all over that Fallout NV deal if I didn’t already have it.
Get over yourself, if it wasnt for those links then this site wouldn’t be here, not everyone lives out of their mommas pocket like you do, wololo needs some revenue to keep the site going, where do u live, in the land of the free???
i rather enjoy having a quick, concise, banner-free list of all the video game discounts for the week all ready to go. It’s part of my video game shopping ritual along with checking steam sales and psn stuff.
It’s even cooler knowing that wololo’s operation gets a little commission from my inevitable amazon purchases.
Win-win
Beethoven had his critics as well, bet you can’t name any of them.
Moral of the story, while your fussing over KILLERCLAWS’ article, he has no idea, or even couldn’t care less who you are.
“inb4 Email app removed”
… that was OBVIOUSLY a joke lmao
“the ability to play unplayable Pstv games”
whoa, got a link to that anyone?
Here you go: youtu.be/7g8XSopnPbo
Video is my Mr. Gas so it’s 100% trustworthy and proven working. No release date in sight though.
thanks!
Can vita update bloker work again?
No they just have given up on the Vita and throwed all their dev kit in the trash to make some space for more ps4 and stuff, just my guess.
Well you know what ? F**k Sony 🙂
They are killing the Vita a bit by bit with these updates , that’s if there was an update ….
Well no, they’re not. They’re just protecting their device from major exploitation which may damage sales for game developers (That is if vita hacking ever goes far enough to the ‘piracy’ region [Which personally, I hope not]). That’s like a game developer saying “Vita hackers are killing our game since no one will buy it due to piracy”.
Considering that the vita seems to be running out of releases period, going forward it makes little sense to be desperately hunting down every single bug on the dying system when that development money is better spent on their more viable products.
And regardless of their obligation to developers, Sony could just as easily say: “the vita is eol.”, set aside a minimal budget for security development, monitor sites like wololo for any news on bugs they haven’t found yet, and patch those when an exploit is made public. They will still seem to be ” upholding their obligations to developers”, and everyone’s happy. (Well except us who want homebrew :p )
As for the whining Devs, nobody is buying your games because the only way people can get them reliably is via PSN. I still see *** from launch day on shelves at the local stores with little new releases. Heck, my local Walmart stopped carrying the vita and any of it’s games or accessories. If the Devs want people to buy their games, they should make it look like the vita actually has development behind it rather than looking like a store employee forgot to toss out the dusty discontinued merchandise.
those who updated to 3.52 are already sc***, please rewrite this so someone who is below 3.52 doesn’t update to it
I updated my Vita to 3.52 so I can connect it to my PS4 and don’t regret a single bit.
Lost my ePSP exploit? Yeah, but I’m pretty sure more will come with time and Vita is pretty much dead, the only good game coming out is Resident Evil Revelations 2… which will cost $40 and I already played because it’s $15 on a PS4…
The rejuvenate hack made me smile at first, but there are another hundred of ways to run emulators without so much hassle to begin with and it will be a long time before anyone sees good quality emulators on vita.
That being said, I sadly finally realized that Vita is more than dead. Not a big mistake to update…
No rejuvenate on that vita, ever. You’ll regret it 🙂
No problem for me, my “Homebrew” still is on 3.18 and my other Vita is for playing my bought Vita games. So there is no reason for me to be afraid in any form. ^^
Same here man 3.18 tnv and ps1 loader. Also psm and unity apps. my little vita is all set.
countdown for the all homebrews, due the next vita security firmware
I sure do hope the email application doesn’t get pulled…. they found a way to ruin the youtube app for lower firmwares so I wouldn’t be surprised if they could ruin this too…. and I actually use it to check my email! I really hope it’s a joke because I’m tired of losing default stuff for my expensive handheld….
Uh.. yeah, whatever. No biggie, i update my vita just like that, going online and buying new games (sometimes comes with theme).
Custom themes?! How do I make one of thoes?
Wololo, this is becoming ridiculous, “Possibility” articles with no clear evidence are happening way too much…
I have my beloved 3.18 for homebrew and my not so cool but online friendly 3.52. I support legal market buying original games so no wrong in here. Bring it on Sony!!! throw us what you want!!!
Ditto (I think?) xD
New for 3.55
+ System software stability during use of some features has been improved.
+ Changed one pixel for visual enhancement.
“Oh hey look they changed the no no sign… did they do anything else? No? Well…. I’m glad the sign looks better, totally worth it!”
Uh, who cares? The damn thing has never been fully blown open, so go ahead Sony… update away. PSP homebrew is stupid anyway
+ Font style from 9 to 8.5
My guess would be they decided to drop Vita Support since hacking natively’s now possible and it has no sale.
Just say tomtomdu80, we all know him.
Not everyone
Remember there are new people always being introduced to the vita
Thanks a lot, Numerous content!
