So this means a GBA emu is possible on DSi?

    • Reprep says:

No, there is no AGB FIRM on DSi/DSi XL unlike 3DS. So even though DSi/DSi XL has all the GBA hardware except for the cartridge slot, we will probably never see something like that.

Your best bet is software emulation which is not very good.

      • Fox says:

Actually, I have GBA emulators on my DSi via a special flash cart called “iPlayer.”
It might be worth looking into how that works, since I’m not sure if it’s a standalone emulator
that’s 100% homebrew or if it makes use of some of that leftover hardware.

That probably falls under “software emulation” but I think games run pretty great on it. I don’t notice any slowdown or framedrops.

        • Reprep says:

it is a software emulator. iPlayer is the cart that was released Supercard DSTWO, it has a cpu inside which is faster than the DS itself. Still not perfect gba emulation though.

          • RaZiel says:

Software that takes advantage of the extra hardware so it would be a hybrid if you ask me as it doesn’t rely on just software. This can’t be done with software alone.

The DSi was actually broken forever ago. It’s just that there were pretty much no interest for the past 5 years or so.

    • Reprep says:

agreed. There isn’t enough interest, probably because dsi is a half-gen.

Still it is great to see sudokuhax running on latest 1.4.5 firmware. I love DS emulators on steroids. 🙂

I would like to have custom themes on my dsi. i dont like having to boot my ds to that boring looking menu in order to get to my flashcart.

This is really freaking awesome to me TBH. I have been happily rocking my DSi with Supercard DSTwo for years. So this is just amazing. I hope a software solution can happen but even though the 3DS scene has spurred it I don’t think it will ever evolve that far. I gave my kid my 3DS when I got her a 2DS (I liked it better TBH and kept it to give her the 3DS) but I still use my old school DSi (I won from a claw machine at an amuzment park of all places for $5) the most.

BTW to the guy that uses the iPlayer its hardware that allows GBA on the DSi BTW as it uses the built in CPU of the second gen flashcards. The DSTwo has all the features of the iPlayer and more. SNES & GBA are nearly flawless. The only GBA game I have ever seen any lag on is Golden Sun and Pokemon but even Pokemon is easily fixed with a few edits to an ini and a third party app.

The DSTwo really makes use of the DS to its full potential and more thanks to the onboard CPU. I play MP4/AVI @ 640/480 with no issues.

Coupled with a badarse 128gb microSD card its simply amazing. My DSi sees more use then my Vita.

It is great to see a DSi fan here. I can go on and on how DSTwo + DSi XL is the best combo ever. DSi XL has a great screen, DSTwo supports even the h264 codec. If i can get sudokuhax installed on my DSi XL, i will enjoy DSi homebrews too and it will be the icing on the cake.

I also use SudokuHax + DSTwo on my new 3DS XL, so i can have DS/DSi/3DS homebrew on one device. Though i still prefer my DSi XL, it is just better.

will these make me play dsi waresz gaems? I like to play Shantae Risky’s Revenge on my DSi XL..

    • Reprep says:

nope, it won’t. This way you can install sudokuhax and have your homebrew without a flashcart.

DSiWare shop is still open and you can buy stuff from there. I bought a few things and they were well worth the price.

can you downgrade from 1.4.5E to 1.4E with this?
