E3: Sony’s conference summary – The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, FFVII Remake, and more!
Sony’s E3 presentation probably was one of the most exciting E3 events I’ve witnessed in a while. As always with E3 presentations though, it made us super excited for games we’re not going to play in more than a year… Am I the only one who then looks at current games, even the ones coming up in the next 6 months, and telling myself “meh”… ?
What’s even more crazy is that most of these games are already up for preorders.
The Last Guardian
Anyway, Sony started with a bang, showing us a gameplay video of the Last Guardian. Yes, the leaked information by The Guardian and Forbes were accurate (as expected from respectable, non gaming related sites?), the game is finally coming.
The trailer revealed by Sony at E3 shows some gameplay of a child character and his 3-stories-tall-chicken-legged-flying dog.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Guerilla Games introduced Horizon, Zero Dawn. This was to me the best surprise of this E3. Picture Monster Hunter, but where the dragons are replaced with robot dragons. It basically makes it twice as cool.
Shenmue 3
Hmm, yeah, also, Shenmue 3 was announced as a kickstarter project. No big deal. Between the time this was announced and the time I type this, the game raised more than $2.5 million (basically beating its 2 million goal within 12 hours), and managed to crash kickstarter. It will probably be the most succesful game in the history of kickstarter, at this rate. Kind of makes you wonder why they even kickstarted it, instead of funding it “normally”.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
I honestly thought people didn’t like remakes, but this one seems to be the exception. FF VII is back, and people in the audience were excited about it.
Uncharted 4
Not a big surprise, but we got to see some Uncharted 4 Gameplay. Despite the attempt at making it better with each iteration, this is still the “same old” Uncharted. Naughty dog rasied the bar very hard with this franchise, so it’s difficult to be flabbergasted at this point. But the gameplay video showed some cool car chase scene, and we got proof that this was not a prerecorded video, as Nathan kind of stayed idle for a while at some point because of a bug.
Dreams
Media Molecule, the people behind Little Big Planet and Tearaway, were back with some more weird stuff that everyone will scratch their head about, but once we understand it we’ll all want more of it. The game, called “Dreams”, is about creativity, sharing experiences and designs, cute bears… and, err, about bringing your dreams to the screen, I guess?
No Man’s Sky
No Man’s sky is the game that I was completely excited about last year at E3. The developers showed us some gameplay, showcasing how big the universe in that game can be. I honestly think I’m oversold on this game, and it will turn out to be some sort of Proteus with a bit more stuff to do, but maybe not enough diversity? I’m worried it could be boring, but we’ll see.
More
There was a lot, lot more announced at Sony’s E3, including a new Assassin’s Creed, some Batman DLC, a new CoD, Firewatch, Street Fighter V, Hitman, Mad Max, Dark Souls III, a bunch of stuff from Indie studio Devolver, and even some mentions of project Morpheus.
What games are you excited about from Sony this year?

1.st
The Last Guardian is really… SUCH ICO MUCH WOW.
No Man’s Sky revives the genre of Space Opera Shooter, and I like it =) Long time no see !
Dreams is incredible art, graphics AND sound, what a shame that the Vita won’t have it.
They really killed it with the game announcements. Disappointing that FFVII isn’t exclusive though. Horizon was one of my favorites of E3 as well. Seeing TLG, FFVII and Shenmue 3 announced so close together was insane.
The amount of hyper square enix will get from ff7 remake i bet sony did try buy it as an exclusive but theres so muh potential money from the remake i bet sony couldnt even afford to secure it
Sony must be in a really bad position to announce all this once you get past the “I want these” mentality.
Think about it, Sony’s job isn’t to make you happy, it’s to make money. A FFVII remake, Shenmue 3 and TLG are three of the most highly sought after games by fans for well over a decade. Sony releasing all three cats out of their bags at the same time makes them look desperate to win customers.
Or proves they are giving gamers what they want? Isn’t that what the PS4 is all about…gamers get what they want
By that logic the Wii U is flourishing and selling millions.
wat? no, they’re going for the kill, Wii U is dead, now they trying to get xbone out of the picture. Next time they will kill Nintendo’s next gen handheld with PSP3.
Well, that went completely over your head…
Sony has 22.5 million consoles sold with only 1 worthwhile exclusive that only 1 million people bought, considering that we’re still quite early into the consoles life, it seems to me the PS4 has been a massive success.
I think Sony’s conference reflect this, I think it was well planned as it served to impress the average consumer, older fans(shenmue and ffvii remake) and also potentially new customers with a new ip and hoping they’ll latch onto ffvii hype.
Sony still has more up it’s sleeve though, I’m surprised there was no mention of metal gear, ratchet and clank especially, tearaway or even the widely popular KH3. I’m even more surprised they gave the dark souls 3 announcement to microsoft.
I think sony is not desperate but confident.
You all do understand that it isn’t Sony making these games. That being said; who exactly is desperate. You should think a little before you write something down that makes no sense
Hahaha…the reply was for the first guy. Ain’t that something
Shenmue 3 passed its $2mill goal less than 40mins after it was shown in E3 lmao.
Also FFVII Remake…drooooooooooooooooooooools.
all above + “world of FF”
Black ops 3 seems better than aw in my opinion. I am still playing a lot on my ps3 then on my ps4, because bo 2 and other titels. But sony is doing well they made a contract with activision and there are much more upcomming for the ps4 they have learnd a lot of the faults from past I see. And you can see they are trying to get pc gamers and other to the ps4 with exclusives etc Sony has very good plans for the ps4.
Don’t worry my dear Vita, you still have me.
Sick ff7 remake I want this so bad
Was interested getting FFVII but hd or not remastered ain’t something that would spend money on. Now remake – this one gives extra yes on getting ps4 😀
Vita’s Legacy Level is over 9,000
XBOX Briefing was better. Backwards Compatibility, New Games, New Functions, HoloLens. And there is still no DLNA and no support for external Devices or support for media files like MKV, AVI… on PS4. In 2015 this is a NO GO. Its for the Gamers cause the console doesnt have any other functions.
wow.. ignorant. PS4 media player incoming with MKV support.
Wow after years ! 😀 Thats a *** joke man. And I still wait for the DLNA Support.
obvious troll is so obvious
backwards compatibility? who buys a new gen system to play games from last gen that were already played many years ago?
new games? like PS4 didn’t have any new games, huh? like Horizon Zero Dawn, which many regarded as game of the show, wasn’t a new game.
new funtions? like what? oh right, you bought a $500 box to watch netflix with. gaming is an after thought.
HoloLens? LOL. Project Morpheus and VR over augmented reality any day buddy. unless you like to see your messy apartment/basment room in your games, then yeah, go ahead with HoloLens. oh btw, HoloLens =/= holographic. big false advertising by mircrosoft there. should’ve been called ARLens. LOL
finally, like the other dude said, ignorant. PS4 media player is already available right now. of course, not that you would know, being an xbot and all.
Wow after years. And there is still no DLNA support.
Wow! I really, really hate how they are making FF7 remake on the PS4! I never bought a PS4! But now I have to?
I can wait as long as it takes for it to come to PC. I have Zero interest in purchasing a PS4 when I have a perfectly capable PC. How the heck am I going to talk my wife into letting me purchase a PS4 just because of ONE GREAT GAME? Whatever.
