Been seeing great deals for PS4/Sony, I think I chose the right console. First?

    • Gooder says:

I consider the PS4 to be the least ambitious console Sony has made.

      • ch3wt0ys says:

Meh, it gives me something to do when I’m off work. Got a good deal on the console, and games are pretty cheap in price regarding quality of them (doesn’t apply to every game made for the console, mind you. Select games I’m into I suppose you could say).
I usually go PC route for gaming, but console is that social thing to play with other people, on my couch, where it’s comfy. Could care less if it’s least ambitious, got tons of new stuff that you “have to have” like PS+ or PS Now (if you want certain PS3 titles on it). Kinda the Microsoft thing done with Xbox.

I would have never gotten a PS4 if my PS3 hadn’t fired. Now if I really was into gaming, like stay up a full week only functioning off of Mnt Dew and Doritos, I’m sure I would agree with you. But seeing as how I only play the thing once or twice a week when I have free time, or on some weekends with friends, I can’t give you a full rant and rave about it. I just like to relax and play an hour or two of a game while maybe having a brew.

        Thanks for your opinion though!

        • Gooder says:

Yeah, the PS service is pretty good, atleast when compared to Nintendo’s IMO (Not sure about Xbox’s), with the weekly deals and everytime more often Flash sales.

I however, still think that the PS4 isn’t as ambitious as the earliest PS consoles, they always had something revolutionary in them.

Like the PS1 popularizing the disc format and playing CDs, the PS2 using external HDD and could play DVDs, the PS3 was the greatest piece of technology IMO, it was the cheapest bluray player, could run OS linux, it could play 3 generation of games natively, you could sue basically any media format on it (CD, DVD, Bluray, USB, SD, Memory Stick and more).

Yet, the PS4 is like, just an Xbox on steroids, nothing really innovative or unique about it.
I guess it has the vita crossplay, but that’s how I see things.

          • Jack Attack says:

The playstation didn’t revolutionize anything about CD based games. By the time it came out, several CD based systems, including arcade, had come out. the difference is that Sony was able to use their existing supply chains to get better drives than the competition but I use that notion loosely as the failure rates for them were akin to RROD. Remember people having to place the PS1 on its side or upside down to play after a while?

The PS2 did popularize and help boost the DVD format but I wouldn’t consider that revolutionary. In fact, the PS2 was the least ambitious of all the consoles of that generation. It could never officially play games on an external hard drive. It had a MODULAR hard drive attachment that used a PATA connection, but even then it could never, officially play any games entirely off it and for the very few games that would side load off it officially, it wasn’t particularly noteworthy in most load time improvements.

The PS3 is the worst of them all. The Cell is a pig and should never have been considered for gaming. It had its niche for raw number crunching but that isn’t what gaming is and it made the PS3 very expensive with literally no distinguishing factors for it in the gaming marketplace. Not one game that can play on the PS3 cannot be played on the 360 or PC if recoded. Meaning, the hardware did jack but impeded development and overcomplicate things.

The PS3 was the cheapest blu-ray drive you could get for about 2.5 years but the funny thing is that the format wasn’t particularly popping during those years and you couldn’t get a whole lot of decently mastered content. So, yay for a useless headstart. OS linux was gimped from day 1 and never reached any serious potential. And yeah it could play PS1 and PS2 games but it literally needed the extra hardware from both to do so. The one area where it’s “super computer” could shine and they have to rely on putting old chips in to patch it up, poorly at that.

I loved my PS1 and PS2 and I enjoyed my PS3 but lets not give Sony virtues they don’t have. Their hardware was always about being pragmatic. The exception being the PS3 but, again, in reality that didn’t do anything but almost ruin them.

    Fool?

  3. Jake says:

The Wii U never was competing in the same market as the ps4 and xbone and that’s totally fine. Its got a good niche worked out for itself. Still can’t find a real reason to buy a ps4 or xbone though. Bloodborne and MCC can’t really hold the systems up by themselves

  4. Sleepys says:

This is a sign that a engineer from sony or ms needs to supply some keys that can lead to a hacked console then and only then console sales will boost

  5. lmao says:

time for domination in handheld too, Sony. PSP3 right?

  6. Vincenzo Canfora says:

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are lucky that there aren’t, on Amazon, Steam’s numbers.
Moreover, the interesting thing in this top 20 is that there are only three videogames, this means that PS4 and Xbox are alive only thanks to their devices and services, while PC’s devices cannot appear on this top 20 for obvious reason.

    • sighsigh@outlook.com says:

Can their not be an article on the net about consoles without the bloody pc being thrown in it all the time about how amazingly better it is and the whole world would die without it blah blah.

    • zorak_torok says:

That speaks of more people buying digital games instead of discs which in turn will not show up on amazons lists.

    • Estelle says:

Steam makes no where near console sales, and pc idiots need to realize that. If it was true, everyone would release their games on steam, yet only 40% of “real” games do, as in not counting indies which would have been free on newgrounds 10 years ago.

    Misleading article title is…misleading

  8. freezy628 says:

    damn

  9. John Doe says:

The most annoying thing in amazon best seller results for “videogames” is that almost no videogames are listed. There’s a lot of controllers, credit card points etc but nearly no games. Hope amazon changes this one day. I don’t want to see a list of 20 skylanders figures when I’m looking for the newest video games.

  10. Arc Futahito says:

It’s actually incredible how Xbox One didn’t go down completely. Microsoft was all kinds of terrible with their console this generation. Terrible policies, terrible design, terrible reveal, lies everywhere.
