Gateway 3.1.0 Ultra Public Beta with New 3DS Support Released
It has been about 4 months since Gateway announced it will support New 3DS and finally the support has arrived. You need to be at or below 9.2 firmware as previously announced. Though booting the exploit is not as straight forward as the old 3DS/2DS.
You will need a retail copy of “The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D” and a way to copy the exploit save game to the retail cartridge. You can use an already exploited 3DS or a save dongle. You will need it one time though. After transferring the exploited savedata to the retail cartridge, copy the Gateway’s Launcher.dat file to the microSD in your new 3DS. After that boot your Zelda game as you would normally do, choose the exploited savegame to load. After it loads, press A to boot Gateway menu. Then you should replace the Zelda cartridge with the Red Gateway Card.
It seems Gateway Team is looking for alternative methods including booting through Cubic Ninja, but there is nothing concrete at the moment.
Gateway supports homebrew for New 3DS but keep in mind that the homebrews will not have sound due to the restrictions.
If you plan to use Gateway on your New 3DS, try to get “The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D” retail cartridge from your region as soon as possible. It is an already expensive game but i am sure the price will skyrocket soon.
You can get the needed files on Gateway official site. Remember this is a beta build and it might have some bugs.

You should buy one if you’ve not owned! Why you have 3DS while you don’t have Ocarina of Time???
Well it’s for the new 3ds and the new 3ds doesn’t come with ocarina of time.
*** are they thinking releasing this thing which happens to only works with an expensive 3ds game like OoT.
I wonder if using a kiosk/demo OoT cart would work.
Some versions of Zelda OoT 3DS cartridge are reported to be not working. So far, there is no way to identify if a cart will work or not without trying. Keep this in mind.
Agreed, OOT is the reason why i bought the 3DS in the first place! I just bought the new 3DS as well for MM as the special new 3DS XL is a wicked little handheld. I am just hoping for a good homebrew scene to establish like on the PSP 🙂
Maybe I can use my new sky3ds card to get this working with my old gateway 🙂
Yes, what you suggested is possible. Also ironic.
Its really unfortunate that you need to be on a lower firmware. The sky3ds is the much better option right now, I think. But ill hold off buying a flash cart until the price drops.
For those of you that are in the same boat I am, who purchased a N3DS from another Region, and now find that the Prices for the Game is ridiculous, you may be in luck if you have a Sky3DS. Over at GBATemp, there is work being done to try and get the GW Exploit to work through Sky. Currently only the NA Version works. The EU is having problems and do not really know what is going on with the JP Version.

The NA and EU Saves are now working and a new Template is posted with new Instructions.
However, the 3D Feature is kind of messed up for some reason. Supposedly, if you close the Lid and open it back up again, it should be fixed. Dont know yet.
thanks for the info.
3d problems are bad. Better 3d is the only incentive for me to upgrade my 3ds XL with gateway, so if it doesn’t work well, i won’t upgrade to new 3ds xl.
I bought the Zelda game on launch as I never played the N64 version and I bought the New 3DS with no intention of hacking it but since it was on exploitable firmware I decided to do the Ninja Hack since I managed to get that game for $5 before the prices skyrocketed.
Almost forgot the I have NDS Adapter Plus which can be used to transfer and backup 3DS saves that use the traditional save chip.
can we use 3.1 gw on old 3ds
Does this still region-unlock the console?
I have a Jap N3DS and Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina 3D (Japan, NTSC J)
