PSP Firmware 6.61 – CFW users finally excluded from using PSN services?!
We all were surprised and a bit shocked after Sony’s release of the Playstation Portable firmware 6.61 a few months ago.
But is this new firmware responsible for CFWs being unable to connect to the PSN services?! Well…
Yes and no.
It is true that Custom Firmwares for the older base firmwares 6.20, 6.3x and 6.60 are currently not able to connect to the PSN services (Error code: ‘80435061’), but Sony did not completely exclude CFW users from using the PSN services.
The convenience of using the PSN services, regardless of installed base firmware, seems to be gone (for now), but the released Custom Firmwares for the base firmware 6.61 are still kicking it!
PSN access is still possible via 6.61 OFW (Sony’s official firmware), 6.61 ME-2.3, 6.61 LME-2.3 and 6.61 PRO-C2 (CFW’s most recent build by qwikrazor87).
Since a lot of Themes and Plugins are not and (most likely) won’t be updated for firmware 6.61, staying on a lower base firmware seems to be a much more convenient choice.
Older CFWs showed us how to do it, and I think it should be possible to update the 6.20, 6.3x and 6.60 builds of the ME, LME and PRO CFW to properly mask themselves as firmware 6.61, which, in the end, will grant them, once again, full access to the PSN services.
While I am currently having some fun with a PSPgo and a DualShock3 controller (yes, you can pair those 2 devices), I am going to test the various builds of LME CFW and PRO CFW (for the various OFWs), and will report which ones are broken and require fixing.
Being able to use the convenience of the 6.20 permanent patch and using the PSN services is something that should not be a choice on the PSP, at least not in 2015.
Stay tuned for an update on using the PSN services on lower (base) Custom Firmwares!

There are more games than plugins and homebrews which won’t work on 6.61.
# Of course, I’ll port plugins which won’t work on 6.61 if I want to use them.
“Since a lot of Themes and Plugins are not and (most likely) won’t be updated for firmware 6.61,…”
Here are 120 CTF themes, all converted for 6.61.

All builds of ME, LME and PRO CFW are broken (no PSN access), except for the 6.61 firmware builds.
So 6.20, 6.31, 6.35, 6.39 and 6.60 need to be updated to support PSN access.
I thought so when I tried to download a PSP game through TN-V on my PSVita but I imagined it was just because the psp PSN was taken down and do not support the psp anymore…
If anyone knows how one can download/install PSP games on a a PSVita (3.18) without a PS3 ? Because even if you own a game, you CAN NOT install it with the package installer 🙁
I upgrated my old to 6.61 to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online (I lend my psp to my gf to play with her and play together when I am on my vita ^^) and RemoteJoyLite 0.19 (last update by Neur0n) work perfectly on it 😀
This is where a perma patch for 6.61 would also be key
hello nice story bro
Z can i play ps1 games on ark2 and how or wait TN update
Yawn. Good job stating the obvious. PSN for the PSP is pointless now anyways and I doubt there are any PSP games that still have servers up for online play.
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware of that.
i belive main question is this , why sony relase fw for psp . ther is no company that west its time on psp and any fw will hack . what is point of that
Cool read, thanks, Z.
We really don’t need to update to 6.61 because there’s not really *** on the psn store. The new online feature that got added with the new ad hoc online game play with firmware 6.60 me 2.3 was just fine not to mention the leda plugin and the other thousands of plugins & working web browser etc that are compatible with its firmware are perfect. not saying it wouldn’t be nice, But to access psn with 6.60 again why.? What would be the good benefits your answer not many. Think why do we access the psn store – we access it for themes, games, movies, etc. But CFW Takes care of all that already the only problem we may have is a ad hoc online game play with a limited amount of games that are compatible with it at the time.
