Pokémon Shuffle, a free-to-play game, now more than ever
Latest installment of Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Shuffle is a free-to-play game for 3DS.
You can download the game free from e-shop. You are given one heart for every 30 minutes and you can get one play with it. Up to five hearts accumulate if you wait. If you want to play more without waiting, you can buy jewels with real currency which can then be traded in the game’s shop for hearts or coins. You can get some jewels/hearts by other means like streetpassing or from within game but you will run out of them sooner or later.
The game had mixed reviews, particularly because of game is literally forcing you to do the microtransactions, especially in later levels.
Now, hackers have managed to make the game into thinking everything is free in the in-game shop. This is all possible with the recently released Yifan Lu’s spider3DSTools. One can only use the exploit on 9.0-9.5 2DS and old (or should i say “non-new”, oh Nintendo what were you thinking while naming a handheld “new”) 3DS systems.
This hack is very similar to the previously released gameboy/gameboy color rom injection through the web exploit hack. The hack involves putting a file in the root directory of the SD card, running the game, visiting a specific site that crashes the browser, then when one comes back to the game’s shop everything is free, meaning everything requires zero jewels.
Here is what everything normally costs for reference. That is for NA e-shop.
Pokémon Shuffle Microtransactions List
- 1 Jewel – $0.99
- 6 Jewels (5 + 1 free) – $4.99
- 12 Jewels (9 +3 free) – $8.99
- 35 Jewels (25 + 10 free) – $24.99
- 75 Jewels (48 +27 free) – $47.99
- Pokémon Shuffle In-Game Shop
- 1 Jewel = 5 Hearts or 3,000 Coins
- 3 Jewels = 18 Hearts or 10,000 Coins
- 6 Jewels = 38 Hearts or 22,000 Coins
- 12 Jewels = 80 Hearts or 48,000 Coins
For obvious reasons, I won’t link the files here. I am pretty sure Nintendo will update the game, the 3ds firmware or both to stop this hack. But this hack will probably be remembered for making a free-to-play game an actually free-to-play one.

Surprising to hear Nintendo jumped on the micro-transactions game bandwagon. Interesting to hear someone managed to effectively ‘cheat’ in a 3DS title, too.
Hackers are the reason why we can’t have nice things. Hope you all enjoy your stay in jail when they find you!
Hackers are the reason you can’t have nice things? They’re the ones trying to give you nice things that megacorps ask an arm and a leg for.
whatever..
Why would anyone with a brain want to play a game that forces micro transactions?
because they are Nintendo worshipper :p
i play it, it dont force you to buy stuff, it would makes it easier yes, but i play this game (5 Lives) once a day. its enough for me so no force 😀
Hope micro transaction games won’t be the trend for handheld console in the future.
Nice hack, these stupid “F2P” money-grab social game deserve it…
I don’t understand how people can spend thousands dollars on stupid game like that instead of buying “real games”…
Which is what Nintendo usually does.
This is what the real Nintendo are, if you think Nintendo is a company worth your salute, you definitely an idiot.
Yeah, it’s not as if any other company has ever done this in the past including Sony and Microsoft.
I don’ really think $47,99 is a “micro” transaction …
I hate the term free-to-play, pay-to-win describes it much better. Of course, it is do-nothing-to-win in this case.
I like Hackers they are the only ones who give you awesome things….
I hope one day PS vita will get a “FULL NATIVE CFW” would be like a dream a portable console with this power …
for example FULL NES,SNES,N64,Neo GEO, SEGA MEGADRIVE, GBA,ARCADE,PS1 and I hope FULL SEGA “DREAMCAST” emulation I hope its possible (DREAMCAST on PSVITA) and maybe FULL NDS emulation also
for Nintendo GC or PS2 emulation im not sure… might be not really possible…
not to forget the chance to mod PS Vita Games also….
*PSVITAEMULATIONDREAM*
Just get a JXD ou any smartphone with a IPEGA controller (9023 is the best) and you will have at least up to N64 emulation. Most recent smartphones can play Dreamcast titles with no problem at all…
wasnt wololo the one that didnt liked piracy?
i miss the old times without hypocrisy
No hypocrisy here, just because we talk about it doesn’t mean we approve of it, also the article was not written by me. Reprep is still getting a grasp of the boundaries here, and unfortunately we want to talk about 3DS more, but the 3DS scene revolves a lot around the piracy devices.
We’ll try to adapt. No hypocrisy, just trying to talk about all consoles is all.
I found a great trainer located here: http://bit.ly/pokemonshufflemobilehack
I read this post fully concerning the resemblance of most recent and preceding technologies, it’s remarkable article.
