Yeah… I actually bought a used one for 55 bucks two weeks …. coulda saved a lil I guess. I knew what I was getting into with it. I just wanted remote play, youtube and some of those ps1 games on a big screen. I guess I could use a hacked system I already own…. but I can simply get the features I want without ever having to unplug anything. The lack of netflix is extremely dissapointing considering you cant use it via remote through a ps4. I dont understand why games like mortal kombat unchained on psp wont work. If you use the search through the store, you can download anything…. but as I said, not everything will work. I am just looking forward to a native hack which would make the device much much more viable…. Im thinking that eventually you will be able to use the vita as an input device. That would be a game changer. Imagine a media player that would display CC on a second screen as to avoid having blocking what you are trying to see. Anywho, with all the faults I pointed out (and there are more), if you purchase it for the right reasons, you CAN be happy with it…. besides, I like having the obscure stuff…. Like a psp go, a ouya, Droidx360…. Next stop is that jaguar I always wanted so I can play that craptacular AvsP game….. I really would like to play through it once :->

I’m still not sure what’s the point of Netflix, I just transcode dvd’s on my computer and stream them using the Vita videos app. I’m not paying for something that’ll just dissapear at the end of the month. Might consider it if they do a lifetime subscription or something….

I’m considering getting a PSTV just for Playstation and PSP RPG’s, but they’re still around the £60 mark which is a bit high when I can just plug my laptop into my TV.

a 50 years subscription to Netflix would cost you about $5000, or the price of about 250 Blu-rays.
I happen to have approximately 250 DVD/Blu rays, and I am not a huge collector. The value of Netflix (or Amazon Prime, for what it’s worth) is obvious to me, and should be to anyone who watches movies as much as I do.

      • Noel_abercrombie says:

Hmm, maybe, but I watch 2 or 3 movies a week and I’m content with having an actual copy of the movie. When I’m done with it, I just sling it on ebay and get my money back.
Saying that, I guess I’m pretty lucky to live right next to a second hand DVD store that is always doing 3 for £5 offers.

I have to admit, I use torrentz.something ALOT for movies, but there is something about having instant access, especially when you browse and find something you would have never typed in a search bar. I still contribute to the movies I like. For instance: I have bought Aliens on vhs, special edition on vhs, 4 movie vhs box set, special edition dvd twice, the dvd quadriligy set, Special edition bluray and beleive it or not, the 35 year anniversary digital edition. I know that is a bit absurd when looking at it…. I need to manage money better :-> Back to topic though, switching regions and watching popular shows from other countries is worth that extra cash.

If you’re not opposed to used media and can wait it out you can spend a lot less on a lot more. There have been times when I’ve averaged under $1.50 per movie ordering dozens, taking advantage of sales but still. Prime is much more valuable (to me) for the free shipping.

That said, I understand the interest people have in Netflix. Netflix and it’s alternatives are very useful if you want to watch stuff shortly after release and don’t care about physical copies.

I wanted to buy one for my father’s birthday this december, he loves crash bandicoot.
I’ll just wait for black friday then.

I get the feeling this won’t be around by then. Knowing Sony. Knowing how they love to support stuff outside of Japan… I mean, it’s very possible but… just as equally unlikely.

My Amazon Fire TV does so much more than Playstation TV. Playing all those emulators, kodi, android games (2d & 3d) that can be controlled by gamepad, and so much more. There is no value in buying PsTV. I have playstation vita and haven’t touch it for a while.

I literally refreshed my browser one minute after it went live and it was 100% full, I put myself on the waitlist (that was over 500+ long) but somehow, I waited and I was able to snag a dualshock pack for 49$, psyched! Although i do have to agree there are huge shortcomings with the system, there are quite a few vita games I was looking forward to that I unfortunately won’t get a chance to play, the lack of streaming media apps don’t really bother me because I have other devices that do those things. I mainly got it for the psone psp and the few vita games I want to play, since currently my own consoles are Wii U and 3DS.

  9. MadZiontist says:

@Wololo, you’re right the PSTV does do both poorly, and at the same time is a steal at that reduced price. How fast these things went for $39/$49 is crazy though, considering the seeming lack of consumer interest in the Vita/PSTV. I justify owning one, if for no other reason, running TN-V on my TV is freakin dope to me! However while the fact that it sold so fast at the reduced price shows that ppl are interested in it, the need for it to be priced so low (even @ its retail $80 price) shows, to me, that Sony wasn’t moving units @ its launch price of $99, which was a good deal (at least at the time it seemed). It was the only console I’ve ever purchased on launch day btw. It wasn’t because of my level of interest being higher than any other console. It was just a timing thing, it’s low price, and mostly I wanted to make sure that I could have a chance at getting TN-V on it. I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt Sony has dropped the MSRP of one of its PS branded consoles by 20% within a few months or so though, which tells me that VERY few gave a *** about it.

Let’s be honest everyone the playstation tv truly has potential..ONLY ON A EXPLOIT or some sort of well done hack. Were not far from a good hack since there are many who have not updated to the latest OFW. Some even buy pair of systems so one can be on the latest for whatever reason and another system that is fully untouched by any update. With those type of patient people around the world good things will come from it. 3ds is cracked in the sense you can play your own purchased games and slap them on to a memory card with the help of cart. People who waited on 4.5 have had a chance to play their game back ups without the use of a cart for example sky3ds.

All i am saying is that the Playstation Tv has a chance to be in many people’s living room as of late with some sort of purpose. So it’s up to you if you want one so will you own one?

  11. EJ says:

I wanted to get one of these for that price, but I wasn’t around at the time to order. Hopefully we see another good sale like this in the future.

  12. kinkyhairAFROBLACKGOD says:

  14. Gastonecrosse says:

I actually got one in my cart and gave it up after I called a friend up before pulling the trigger and he reminded me that since I already have three activated vitas in my household, I would be unable to activate the Vita TV without giving another up… It sorta sucks

I got the bundle for $49.99 and I AM LOVING IT! I honestly do get why some people are so down on it.

Comparing the Amazon Fire TV (I have one and love it) to the PS TV is pure stupidity. They are too completely different things. I do not own a PS4 or a PS Vita – but I do own a PS3.

I bought the PS TV to get access to some VITA Games I get being a PS+ member and to have a small portable console. When we go on vacation, it will be awesome to have in the hotel to keep the kids occupied.
