Can someone explain why VHBL is more common an exploit released than the PSP firmware exploit thing?

    • Cosmic Taco Cat says:

      They are more common

    • Spewfr says:

Well, from what I understand, each game loads it’s own data using a series of libraries that are in the PSP/Emulator’s kernel. If the exploited game loads a certain number/set of these libraries, it can then be used to call a function to exit the game, thus landing you on the XMB of the PSP. Most games, however, do not load enough of the libraries needed, and are thus only able to hop from one ELF executable to the other.
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, please lol

    • MBA says:

VHBL is open source, TN-V is not. I think that’s what you are asking, right?

    • Aces says:

VHBL = usermode and has limited compatability (homebrew can only use nIDs that are already loaded into memory by the exploited game, this is why some exploit games are better to use than others)
CFW, HEN = kernel mode, this mode gives homebrews complete control almost to open and close nIDs at will, pretty much full control of the emulated environment. Kernel exploits must have a usermode base, so you exploit a game like patapon and look at the nIDs on offer, if one is exploitable then you can hike your priveledges up to the kernel level and apply a HEN patch or an emulated CFW.

    • zorak_torok says:

The firmware thingie requires a kernal exploit which is way more rare to find in a psp game than the ones needed for vhbl to run. Thats it in a nutshell.

      • Aces says:

You wont find kernel exploits in psp games, more so in the nodules that it loads.
When kernel exploits are released, they are generally made compatible with every previous usermode game released beforehand. Game exploits get your foot in the door so you can explore the nids and other resources for avenues of attack.

        • Aces says:

Just to add, this is why there are so many more vHBL exploits than eCFW’s and HENs.
Because the usermode area must be exploited first before you can even look at getting kernel level access

  2. Dlevistu says:

Thank you qwikrazor, great timing I’m picking up patapon 2 and using the 10% off code sony released this weekend. Your awesome keep up the good work.

    • Spewfr says:

F**K, forgot about that! dang it.

    • The Z says:

      Highjacking this top comment:

BE SURE TO BUY PATAPON 2 INSTEAD OF PATAPON 1 (EU).

DUE TO TECHNICAL LIMITATIONS PATAPON 1 (EU) CAN NOT BE USED ANYMORE AS 3.36 EXPLOIT GAME!

We are deeply sorry about this, but it is unfortunally not possible anymore 🙁

  3. DudeQuestion says:

Would you suggest we stay with 3.18 if we have it though, and wait it out for a native exploit?

  4. Darthsternie says:

PSP usermode exploits, known as VHBL are a lot easier to find than than PSP kernel exploits used for TN-V and ARK.Hope to have helped you.

  5. MoonsBane says:

Wait, so we need to have another PSP game in addition to Patapon 2 to set up the VHBL? (Patapon 2 for exploit, another for the bubble). Would demo games work or should I buy another PSP game to turn into bubbles? Would a Mini work or does it need to be a full PSP game to create the bubble?

  6. osmium says:

Again the usual question… this exploit allows to use custom bubbles only or allows to launch PSP homebrews, emulators and games too?
Another one: I have downloaded Patapon as a backup… is it necessary to download it from PSN store anyway in order to use the exploit?
    Thank you in advance.

    • The Z says:

You have to have the game on your vita. If you get it from PSN or restore a PC backup is your choice.

It has to be a bought version, though. You can not get it for free, shared or any other cr@p, that a cheap fu©k would prefer (not implying you are one).

  7. Yatto says:

You rock ! Thank you very much ! Plus, these two are excellent games, even if I didn’t got the VHBL with Patapon, I would have downloaded it. You’re all amazing =)
    *downloaded Patapon 2 EU*

  8. Donquixote Doflamingo says:

    What about the UK version ? . . .

    • The Z says:

I am not sure, but if UK is in Europe, then it should use the european PSN store.

As long as the tides did not changed the location of the island, it should still be considered europe.

  9. Darthsternie says:

You should definetly stay on 3.18 and not update to 3.36.3.18 has TN-V ARK Webkit hack and PKG installer so I would not update to 3.30/3.35/3.36

  10. Chris Highwind says:

When I saw Patapon 1, I raced to my Vita to get it downloaded.

…Then when it was downloaded, I saw it’s only for the European version. 🙁

  11. Nina says:

    May I request clarification please?
I understand VHBL is the ‘psp emulator’, which is pretty much the only useful homebrew I’ve found on my vita. I was enjoying playing the english translated TYPE-0 for a while there (until I bought FFXHD, then it took a back seat for a while). But, I’m still highly interested in re-visiting it in the future.

Please excuse my ignorance and inexperience with VITA hacks.

Am i able to load up that VHBL / PSP exploit to play PSP games on my VITA? I’ll download PAPATON 2 right away, as I live in Ontario Canada.

    • Darthsternie says:

VHBL is only able to let you play homebrews, you can only play psp isos and backups with TN-V or ARK and both are only for 3.18 at the moment but you will be able to use the custom bubble trick with vhbl and so you can make homebrew and psp iso bubbles

      • Nina says:

Darthsternie, thank you for quick response.
        I’m still unclear about something.
Does this mean I can make a TYPE-0 bubble and play it, rather than having to load the PSP emulator?

          • nina says:

            Thank you Z,

I’m having a difficult time with the /talk forums. Is there a tutorial I’m missing with a file to download and get this installed?

i’m not seeing PAPATON 2 in PSN. It’s a PSP game right? Not a PS VITA download?

          • nina says:

eh, just watched the videos (should have done that before I asked). Files to be released soon.

            Ok.

I’ve downloaded PATAPON 2 as I live in Canada. Now wait patiently to mod my vita again.

            thank you

    • NINA below says:

***, same name with same question and same *** game (type-0)

Im the Nina who pretty much asked the same question below.

same boat, the only reason im on 3.18 is because i have not finished type-0 yet, thats the only PSP game i want to play. after finishing it im out of the homebrew scene for vita and go legit lol…
      lol

  12. osmium says:

Thank you Darthsternie, I’ll remain with my 3.01 exploit…

  13. kevinalbis says:

wow thats cool…. another chance for 3.35 user…
    i’ll stay on 3.18….
can i use a psp game that was in ps plus for bubbles? i have worms battle island and GTA liberty city in my ps vita

  14. axlcross says:

can i use, patapon 2 demo version?

  15. theguy says:

    Will P2 work for us?

  16. StealVitagamesPirate says:

so should we stay on 3.18 if we want to have a chance of pirating vita games? Like if we go to 3.36 we won’t be able to pirate right?

    • The Z says:

There wont be a way of pirating Vita games. You might want to gift your Vita to a person who actually enjoy and supports the console, instead of being a filthy pirate.

    • arkh says:

Thank you for the exploit. Just bought patapon 2 EU and downloaded it. I really hope this exploit can lead to something big in the future. I will enjoy some old classic whit the VHBL while waiting 😀

      Thank you for everything!

  17. alex says:

*While it´s a Psp game it will work, and you need Patapon 1/2 too for the exploit, oh! use english for this site pls 😀

  18. mlc says:

So is this only necessary for bubbles on 3.30+, while the prior method still works below that?

  19. NINJA2KILL says:

will the PS1 exploit still working ?

  20. gerrypi says:

Good, bought and waiting for the savedata, one little answer… in the post say´s: “Another important fact is that you need to own a PSP game, that is not one of the firmware 3.18 exploit games, to use as a base for the proper VHBL custom bubble” ; is neccesary buy another Non exploit game? another that wasn´t had a exploit?

  21. GlassBox says:

I’m unable to track down the previously exploited games besides Patapon 2 could someone just name the cheapest full game that will work with the exploit for the 3.36 US software…?

  22. KronosXLI says:

Wait, let me get this straight. Not only do I get Vhbl, but I can make a bubble to play PSP games without a prior exploit?

  23. noumic says:

merci j’ai acheter la version euro Patapon 2 j’attend le vhbl avec impatient.

  24. mlc says:

So, another important question: To what extent are the signed bubbles distinguishable from downloading bubbles? Will a future update eliminate these? Is there any benefit, other than being aesthetically pleasing, to use this bubble method over TN-V?

    • Spewfr says:

Sony tried to patch modification of folder names, but that was quickly thwarted by using a character required in some directory commands (it was a period). Future updates, affix, could patch it further; whether or not they’ll risk eliminating the use of a period in any PSP file structure, idk.

  25. Tryhard says:

What is the approximate time for this to be released?

    • Spewfr says:

He said a week, or two. Or seven. 🙂
Don’t be selfish; buy the game and wait for as many people to get on the exploit train as possible before it leaves.

  26. Sleetui says:

Anyone know what’s the smallest PSP game to use as a bubble? Also what’s it mean to “clone” bubbles?

  27. oli says:

Being very new to the vita hacking scene, I just have a few things I am unsure about. I understand that there is a difference between TN-V and VHBL in that VHBL can only be used to run home-brews etc. But I am only really looking to play PS1 and PSP backups on my vita. Does this mean that I should buy Patapon or not? Will downloading Patapon only allow me to run home-brews, or is there a way of running backups of PS1 and PSP games also through VHBL? I don’t want to buy Patapon if it will not help me with what I want. Should I wait for a mention of TN-V on 3.36? Thanks for any help you guys can give me. As I’ve only just started looking into vita hacking, I’m struggling to get my head around what custom bubbles actually are and how they work! Thanks guys. (I own a Vita 1000 OFW1.61 and Vita 2000 OFW3.36 if that is any help).

    • Spewfr says:

TN-V on 3.36? Right now no. I’d guess not for a while if any.
PSP iso’s, via a custom bubble and sign_np on 3.36 is possible.
VHBL will allow you to create a custom bubble; you can put an ISO in a custom bubble.

      • Oli says:

Thanks for your response. so if you can run ISOs by creating custom bubbles, what is the difference between TN-V and VHBL? Is it just a more complicated process to play ISOs through making custom bubbles? Will PS1 ISOs always be possible in the same way? Thanks.

  28. Kokumotsu says:

i am a PS+ member is it worth getting the exploit and lose my ability to access PSN. i do not play multiplayer games but heavily play the free games i get which i think i can just search them on my ps3 and transfer them, but dont i have to be online to play them. or would the exploit ruin my ps+ games once an update comes out

  29. Kokumotsu says:

forgot to mention i mainly want to “reexploit” my vita because i miss playing the psp games i cant buy i psvita that i already own on psp.

  30. MoonsBane says:

PSA; LocoRoco Midnight Carnival is free to download the demo and it’s a PSP game; one of the few demos i found for PSP games that are compatable with Vita. It’s 186 MB but should work (in theory at least) as a bubble since you need a PSP game in addition to Patapon to turn into the bubble.

  31. NakedFaerie says:

Pity its not for the Patapon Demo as thats free but its a PSP only download.

  32. Woofoo says:

I might have a silly question but for some reason vita exploits confuse me, anyway, i plan on exchanging my current vita to a new one (i didnt exploit my current one), so if i buy patapon 2 now and keep the game on my memory card would it be then possible to exploit the new vita with the same exploit if its on the same OFW ?

  33. ChasingOctaves says:

    Aww Yeah!! Thanks again team!

  34. Craig says:

Can anyone confirm what PSP game I also need to download with this for when the hack is released? Information is all over the place. Thank you!

  35. dbzgts says:

Must buy and downloaded to the vita so must updated to firmware 3.36?

  36. whyess says:

I still don’t get it, is custom bubbles an alternative way to playing pirated psp games as supposed to TN-V

  37. brownienz says:

Nice all ready have patapon2 i wont be updating just yet any way but nice to have it as a option if i decide to cheers Z

  38. Jack says:

Hey I don’t wanna be dumb or anything and would appreciate a constructive response. I was wondering why it is not possible to do this for Patapon 1 in the U.S. version versus the European version. Any helpful response would be really awesome!

  39. Nina says:

Currently I am on 3.18 and I still havent finished FF type-0, thats the only reason im not updating my firmware. which is too bad because i cant buy new games due to the firmware restriction when accessing the PSN store.

If i update to 3.36 and buy the game and use the exploit, will i still be able to play my backed up PSP game?

  40. Simk0024 says:

These is no Exploit Game for Asia??

    • The Z says:

Patapon 2 JP works, if you are in japan.

I dont think the other asian psn stores offer patapon 2.

      • Simk0024 says:

        @The Z Thank you very much.^^
Erm…. Then, will TN-V work on this exploit game?
If so, I will sign up an Europe account and buy this game.
        haha
