So I’ve done everything listed above, even in the comments, and I’m still getting “Cannot connect to server”.

Also, the audio settings look completely different for me in the Plex program.. I do not have the option of Prefer AAC audio…

    • Victor says:

You have to have the player tab selected then you click on show advance options, then you’ll see it. Remember you have to do this FROM YOUR PS4 not your pc. Took a while for me to get it to. 🙂

  2. yanqc says:

I accessed plex fromt he PS4. Though, once I start a movie, it seems to keep loading it eternally and never starts. It works with every other device at home.

    Any idea?

    Thank you

  3. Bubba says:

Uh, so would something happen if I watched most shows that are pirated? I only really get a few shows here and there and maybe a movie or two. Would I be in any trouble using Plex?

    Thanks in advance.

    • wololo says:

No, this is all happening on your local network, no issue there, besides issues with your conscience 🙂

  4. chevylin says:

Thanks for the article Wololo. Just want to inform all folks who live outside US that PS4 is a great media Player. If you want to access Netflix and other streaming stations on your PS4 one you can use UnoTelly as I do to get around the geo block.

  5. Mack says:

When i type the address in the browser on the PS4 i get a message “THIS DATA NOT SUPPORTED BY THE PS4” any one else got it? is there any way around it . i used my IPAD to check if the meadia server is and i can watch the videos. HELP PLEASE

  6. Mack says:

The previous issue got solved. But now here’s a new problem. the page just does not load. it just remains at the white blank page. anyone have any idea as to what might be the issue here

  7. Brandon says:

How did you solve the THIS DATA IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THE PS4 error?

  8. Brandon says:

I added http:// before the local computer IP and it solved the DATA NOT SUPPORTED error.

  9. Robin says:

Hey guys. Ive tried this software and serverthingy, but I have one issue. WHen I add TV series to my library it merges the entire show into 1 file/folder. How do I split this up so that I can watch the episiodes 1 by 1. Would be grateful for a fast reply. Thanks!

  10. Travis says:

So I got everything working, but it doesn’t want to start. It keeps buffering a tthe beginning. I played it on another computer, and it started in seconds. I changed the necessary settings FROM the PS4 itself. The video itself is in MP4 format as well. Also AVI and MKV isn’t working, but I thought it didn’t matter.

    • Bob says:

MP4 works for me, but not .AVI files. Did you change the setting to prefer AAC on the PS4 end?

    • WintersWolf says:

Had the same issue until I went in to settings in the browser on PS4, click show advanced, went to player sub menu and turned on prefer AAC. Worked instantly after that, it’s just how it picks up audio from AVI files.

mine keeps on saying you do not have permission to acces this serever

So after spending 20 minutes or so getting Plex to install and figuring out the IP address thing in the PS4 browser(I just googled plex and signed in) I have to say that it would be easier(and cheaper) to buy a really long HDMI cable for my PC and hook it up to my TV. Tried streaming a low quality movie through the browser and all I get is a loading screen. If you want to stream on your ps4 dont even bother, this along with many other things makes it apparent that Sony is more interested in $$ than being actually useful as a home entertainment platform. I ended up just switching back to my PS3 and streaming from my pc through it. At least PS3 has native support to recognize XMB services on your home network. Fail Sony, Fail.

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s
equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the
nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about.

I am very happy that I found this in my hunt for something
    relating to this.

  14. terrell says:

    Physics say it right. Thanks

  15. Matt says:

Hi, I had it working before as per the instructions above, however, the only thing I did wrong was “Prefer AAC Audio” on the PC and not the PS4… so I disabled it and tried to do back on the PS4. However, now it states on the PS4 “This data is not supported by the PS4″…

Back on my PC, under Settings > Server > Remote Access, it has a RED ‘!’ Exclamation Mark, and in Server Mapping, it says my Private IP = Unknown, Public IP = Unknown and There is no internet…

Are these two things related ? And how come I can’t connect the server mapping ? I’ve left the default port @ 32400.

Care to help please! Extremely frustrating! :@ Many thanks,

You actually make it appear so easy with your presentation but I in finding this topic to be really one thing which I believe I might by no means understand.
It sort of feels too complex and very huge for me. I am having a look ahead on your
next put up, I will attempt to get the dangle of it!

Cracking a WPA security code of twenty or more random
characters has still not been demonstrated. How about
your burning desire to know what Fifi, Fluffy
or Fido do when you are gone. Knowing what each piece
of hardware does will allow you to determine what you need to purchase.
As its name suggests, wireless networking allows you to network without the use of wires all over the place.

  18. Brian says:

    Does this method still work?

Do you have to get the plex app and may a monthly subscription?

  19. Rhys says:

Still works. Just purchased a PS4, and have now set it up and working with Plex as above.

  20. SilverWolf says:

I didn’t read all the comments but, can this be done from an android phone as well.
Also, I’m keeping my ps3 too.

  21. heh says:

this method does not work any more after the ps4 updated to ver 2.0

    • wololo says:

I’m on 2.51 and I have no problem. What issue are you getting?

      • Max says:

when i put the string in the ps4 browser the ps4 says it can’t do that command or something like that

      • Max says:

Ok, looks like my firewall was blocking the ps4. Disabled it, it’s working, but it’s very slow, actually unusable for big files that i wanted to use it with

      • Max says:

        however, thanks for the guide

  22. Max says:

Doesn’t work, when i put the string in the ps4 browser says the console ccan’t do that command.

ps4 has the plex app, that wants money to strem things

  23. vagtam12 says:

First of all it needs static ip on pc,static ip on ps4.Sign in plex app on pc and ps4.If there is problem again close firewall on pc and check some things on router(close proxy and vpn, enable nat and Upnp).Ok go to ps4 browser and load plex.tv/web.Now to play movies on plex tv app go to setting( up right) players(check advance settings) and check play aac audio.
