Minimur, WTH Happened This Week? E3 Special!
Last week, if you are unaware (or if you were on the lookout for PS Vita news) It was E3, and much to mine, yours, and everyone’s delight, it’s time to sum up the news that wasn’t in the conference, for example, Steamboy, a portable console that runs SteamOS, and also a leaked trailer for the newly announced Bloodbourne.
First of all, although there wasn’t too much for the Vita in the conferences, there was quite a bit being showcased for the console, most of which are featured in the sizzle real below, but the new announcements that were made were:
I’m positive there were more games I missed out, so be sure to drop a comment and what game I missed out on!
Talking of games I missed out on….. Shahid Ahmad of Playstations Strategic Content has announced that he actually has 70 games in his hands at the moment. Now there’s no denying that we probably know most of these, one game that’s due for release but has been in the shadows is Soul Saga. But still, 70 games? Blimey.
He also mentioned that Gio Corsi, Third Party Production team has a few projects in the pipeline for the PS Vita
Also, my main man @giocorsi and his team have some fantastic stuff in the pipe, but it’s up to him to discuss, I won’t spill the beans bro!

Now I’m sure I’m not he only one that noticed the PS Vita TV has been re-named to just Playstation TV while watching the conference. Well according to an interview with Jim Ryan, SCEE President explained why this has happened.
You’re right, the Vita name has been dropped for North America and Europe. That reflects the way that we anticipate the device will be used. We feel that the name PlayStation TV best encapsulates that it will provide a number of PlayStation-type benefits that will be enjoyable on a TV.
In Japan, where the handheld formats are very strong and vibrant, it was positioned initially as an alternative form of gaming console for Vita content. In Europe, at least initially, the principal position will be to use PlayStation TV as a form of remote play for PS4. The user case is you’re playing PS4 in the living room, someone else wants to use the TV, and you can go into your bedroom where your PS TV is and resume playing.
We feel for the price, to have that PS4 gaming experience on another television is going to be of considerable interest to many gamers. Down the road, when PlayStation Now comes to Europe – and it is a when, not an if – PS TV will function as a client device for the service. So you’ll be able to stream content into that little box and then away you go.
Then, as a micro-console, you can enjoy PS Vita games, PSOne games, PSP games on it. As a standalone console proposition it functions perfectly well there. You can see the Vita gaming bit is a subset is one of three positionings, so the name change makes it more coherent.
So the reason being that they changed it is because how they feel it will be used in the different regions, and feel that just having ‘TV’ is a better fit as it will ‘provide a number of Playstation-Type benefits'(Being PS Now, PS4 remote play, and Vita/PSP/PS1 games).
Translation: Detatch the console as much as possible from the ‘Vita’ name, so people will think it’s a new system.
Jim was also asked about a PS4/PS Vita bundle, his reply was:
[That] will come at some point this year, hardware manufacture is a really tedious thing, it actually has been held up by trying to get the bundle package in a way where drop tests work properly, and we’re just about ready. When you develop a consumer electronics device you have to be able to drop it in a reasonable manner and it not break, and trying to find a configuration of a Vita and a PS4 that is not the size of this table has proved rather difficult, but I think we’re there.
So there you have it, why the PS TV was re-named.
The micro-console is due for launch this Autumn and will be $99 in US, £84.99 in UK and 99Eur in the rest of Europe

A new game for the Morpheus?
I missed this one in the conference, maybe I just wasn’t paying attention if it was there, but believe it or not it’s being developed by the same studio who created the clothes and accessories for Playstation Home. How brilliant.
The game is called ‘The Assembly’
It looks pretty spooky, and a brilliant fit for the Morpheus, take a look at the trailer:
There’s no denying that Sony have made some sexy products, but this one takes the cake. The only thing is though… I won’t be getting it. I’ve already got its brother unfortunately. But it is damn beautiful.

Ermahgerd…..
These headsets really do look nice, and they’re good too. I did a review/unboxing on my pair not too long ago, here’s the link. I’m trying not to get too jealous my convincing myself that the headsets will get dirty eventually… plus it’ll look pretty weird with the white adaptor sticking out of the black PS4
So it was inevitable, guys…. There’s been a comparison between the map in MGSV: The Phantom Pain and GTA V, which you may be surprised. I certainly was, anyway. So if you look in the photo below, this is MGSV’s map, and the little outlines are maps of previous MGS games, showing how big the map itself is…

Here’s reddit’s analysis as done by netnai:
GTA V:
Map http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img571/1084/d60t.jpg
Before release it was said about:
100 square milesBut after release and realistic analysis:
35,000 ft x 25,000 ft = 6.63 mi x 4.73 mi = 31.39 square miles (including water) Without water (Ocean and Alamo sea): Water = 350 squares of map = 12.55 square miles of water Real land: 31.39 - 12.55 = 18.84 square miles of landMETAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN
Map http://kotaku.com/hideo-kojima-says-metal-gear-solid-v-is-this-big-1586577261
4,000 x 4,000 meters = 4 Kilometers x 4 Kilometers = 2.48 miles x 2.48 miles = 6.18 square miles (assuming “all land” due to action in Afghanistan, a country with no seas)
COMPARISON
MGSV:TPP 6.18 sq mi < > GTA V 18.84 sq miCONCLUSSION
MGSV:TPP map is 32% of GTA V land mapWooow! It is massive the size of the map speaking about a game type as Metal Gear, and not a multi-activities sandbox.
Don’t get me wrong, that is pretty huge, but I wasn’t as shocked as netnai, maybe I don’t understand how lively the map will be, but nevertheless it will be an awesome game!
Who’s actually a PC gamer here, and despises handhelds?
First of all, what the heck are you doing here, this place orientates around the Vita.
Second of all, time to eat your hate word about your opinions on portable consoles being cruddy, as this thing called the Steamboy. A portable console that runs SteamOS.
The title is named ‘Steamboy project’ so I presume the system is still very much in development, but there’s no denying the fact that it’s pretty awesome, although I predict that either of thee 2 things will occur;
1. It plays games terribly
2. The battery lasts 1-2 hours
OR
It’s actually a Streamboy, is a remote play only console. and will gobble up the internet as you play it.
Something I noticed however that I thought was a bit odd, was the positioning of the buttons, they seem so close to the bottom it reminded me of trying to change the volume on the PSP mid-game, and having to constantly play a game like that may be annoying.
Here’s some news that I missed, so it nearly didn’t make it on here. It’s 8 minutes worth of glorifying Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel gameplay.
Gosh Darn it
Kotaku, who uploaded the 8 minute gameplay demo, are using an un-embeddable video, which is a shame as it’s just solid gameplay without any interruptions, I did manage to find the same demo but with Gamespot interviewer and staff of borderlands talking over it
News not worthy of a section but still interesting:
Yager (Spec ops studio) are also making another game, Dreadnaught – Youtube trailer
Ubisoft cancelled plans for a female lead in AC Unity – Their reason
New PS4 Accessories By Nyko – Pretty Cool!
100 games you may have missed at E3 – You probably didn’t miss them, it’s a huge collection of random games, plus it’s a slideshow.
All the E3 trailers– Ones to watch: AC Unity, Rainbow 6: Seige, GTA V PS4, Little Big Planet 3. (There’s plenty more, but I’d go on for ages)
I love this:
First
Not saying I’m not going to give any further look at the SteamBoy
But the portables I have, I have because they’re pocketable not only do the buttons look a pain, but taking it around does too because of those handles
The Steamboy actually looks pretty intriguing for me. I mostly play on my Vita because of the long distance to my work (About two hours each day, which is massive over the months). And I use this time to play old JRPGs, Indis, PSP games or Vita exclusives. But this device could actually expand my horizon, if it turns out really well. Of course, I’ll always prefer the playstation brand. But damn, the sheer thought of playing Dark Souls on the train would be awesome. But I suppose, it’ll run only the Steam OS and so only the Linux compatible steam games might run.
The most important things on E3 for me were:
Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Xenoblade Chronicles X (which is actually not a new thing, but still awesome) and the anouncement of Playstation TV in the US and Europe.
Most people seem to see Nintendo as the “winner” of this years E3, what I cannot quite understand. I loved Nintendo games when I was a kid and am really confident now, that, thank god, Minecraft won’t away Nintendos place for today’s kids. But first of all there was no real surprise for me. Maybe treehouse of the new Yoshi game. But it’s just reiterating what Nintendo did for so many years. Even S.T.E.A.M. is nothing really new. It looks exactly like a Valkyria Chronicles clone which lost it’s charm on the way. And people are actually make mountains out of molehills, of what would be yet another game of the many announcements of Japanese and indi games on the Vita.
Don’t get me wrong, if I was still younger, I would be thrilled with what Nintendo did there and Splatoon is a really innovative and completely new thing. But it just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. I want to have an immersive experience in an atmospheric world with likable characters, mature and deep topics, etc. etc.
As an adult core gamer, the only thing that will make me actually buy a Wii U next year and which will also remain the only Wii U game I will own, is Xenoblade Chronicles X. I love Monolith Soft and digged all their Xeno-games on the Playstation platforms. But I hate Nintendo for buying them and make me play such glorious games on the weaker hardware. Xenogears and Xenosaga III are two of my favourite games of all time and Xenoblade was also really awesome. Only the characer design of this IP kills it a bit for me. But it’s still above most other games and knowing Monolith Soft, it’ll be one of the most epic experiences, I’ll ever have.
Dude, stop the butthurt man. It looks bad.
Number one game I’m looking forward to on Vita (and PC) is Dragon Fin Soup.
somehow the only thing i wanne get into is streaming games from to my vita in psp homebrew mode
kinda like remotejoy does but in the opposite direstion … not to pc … to vita
and even more precise from my old xbox from 2000 to my new vita both in homebrew mode
cheers
The steamboy design looks horrible, those buttons seem like they’ll press if you try to rest your hand on them, so it’ll most likely require you to place your hand in an unnatural way. It also somehow manages to be even bulkier than the vita with those trigger buttons.
