No Man’s Sky Looks Spectacular
What happens when you stick a small group of talented developers in one room with full creative control? You get a science-fiction game that looks to push the boundaries of what modern games are capable of.
No Man’s Sky is a game made by Hello Games. This small team was behind a small title called Joe Danger. Hello Games decided to step up from that and create something mind-blowing; a completely 3D procedurally generated universe that’s infinite. Yes, UNIVERSE.
The game is all about exploration. You can explore endless amounts of planets and solar systems with all of them extremely different from one another. Planets will vary in sizes. Some are Earth-like that will take extensive time to explore. Every player starts out on their own planet and is then encouraged to explore everything. The game has such a vast array of varied gameplay that every section of the universe feels and looks like a completely new game. You’ll be exploring for ancient artifacts that will be spread out across the universe. Those artifacts will reveal secrets about the universe you are in. Along the way you will be engaging in combat against dangers both on foot and in space (and vehicular) combat. Every planet is populated by completely different species so you’ll have to stay on your toes.
You can seamlessly enter and exit planets by simply flying out of the atmosphere with your choice of spaceship. Everything is at your fingertips. Nothing is off limits. Even the developers have no clue as to whats out in the world; everything is completely random. The universe you’ll encounter is limitless with no boundaries and no load times to bare. Every atom is created by the games engine. Its all there: Caves, oceans, deserts, jungles, mountains. You name it. How its running is beyond me. Mind you this is with full AI of species populating the worlds with their own unique ecosystems. Level streaming and a few tricks can be used to create large maps but it has its boundaries. No Man’s Sky seems to really push the boundaries technically speaking.
The game was announced last year at VGX but details regarding the game have been slim since then. Sony really stole the show with a brand new gameplay trailer for their E3 press conference. There hasn’t been any announcement of a release date just yet but it’ll be coming to the Playstation 4 soon. The new trailer we saw at E3 looks like it’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you haven’t already watched it, do yourself a favor and check it out below.
Damn that game looks pretty awesome! Hope there’ll be a demo or something. I’ll be definitely buying it.
Looks interesting but boring as heck.
This game in combination with the oculus rift, or a similar product, would be a sight to behold.
let’s hope it gets Morpheus support then.
This looks quite intriguing. I wonder how they achieve different skins for the various creatures. A mix and match of models, like how the Spinda pokemon has different spots for each one?
If I have a ps4 when this is released I will buy it day one :d
