$399 Xbox One now available for preorder
A few days ago, Microsoft announced they would slash the price of the Xbox One, down to $399, starting on June 9th. Amazon and other retailers now made the $399 Xbox one available for preorder.
There’s a catch, of course, and people who follow gaming websites already know: This is a kinectless Xbox One that you’ll get for this price.
Is this bad though? It’s been well known that the PS4 is doing way better than the Xbox One so far (Sony’s console recently hit the 7 million mark, while the Microsoft next Gen device is currently at about 5million units sold), and it is assumed throughout the industry that this move aims at leveling the playing field between the two competitors. As Microsoft representatives stated, this is to give consumers a choice at retail.
In addition to that, Streaming applications that used to require an Xbox Live Gold subscription ($60/year) such as Netflix, Hulu, or ESPN, will now be available for non Gold users. A pretty obvious move if you ask me (it’s not like you can’t get Netflix on other devices…), especially since these applications all have their own fee.
But the PS4 still has strong momentum, and it is unlikely that Microsoft will catch up this year in terms of sales. Nevertheless, it does indeed bring more options to gamers, which is always a great thing.

Microsoft had made the decision of advertising the Xbox One as a “media” device, while Sony made the decision of focusing on gamers and indie devs with this generation’s console. It seems so far that Sony made the right move, but having both consoles at a comparable price is definitely going to help Microsoft. Or will it? The new price tells me the “value” of the Microsoft Kinect is $100, while Sony’s PS4 Camera is available for $60. It looks like Microsoft are going to have to justify (with games or good marketing) the perceived double price of the Kinect compared to the PS4 Camera.
Do you plan to buy an Xbox or a PS4? Does the $399 Xbox One appeal to you, or was the price not the issue in the first place for you?

I never plan to buy an Xbox. My co-workers swear that Xbox is better for online first person shooters. I have bought the psone for final fantasy and the pstwo for final fantasy ten. I played ridge racer, gran turismo, and other racing games on play station three. Got the play station three for backward compatibility 60gb. Boy did final fantasy suck for playstation three, but opposite for star ocean. Star ocean sucked on pstwo but great on three. Sadly no dragon quest on play station three. So MAYBE I will buy a ps four but I need a good racing game, dragon quest, star ocean, or final fantasy if square enix gets their head out of there nether region.
this is an article about xbox, no-one cares about what ps3/4 games u want/played on this lol
Also refunds for remaining gold membership.
Correction: Sony hit right above 7 million PS4 Consoles sold to consumers and put inside someone’s household. Microsoft however, shipped* 5 million units to stores for them to be sold.
Microsoft inflated their numbers so they don’t look so bad than they already are. However, I may pick up a $399 XOne for it’s exclusive games. I’m more of a PC gamer now, but I will still buy consoles for exclusives.
I know MS has to make money somehow, but as long as they restrict online multiplayer with Gold Membership, I’ll pass.
Why should we pay to play online with our friends when Nintendo/Sony offer it for free?
Actually you need ps+ to play online on ps4 (50 $ a year against 60 $ a year for ms).
Plus better free games than what m$ offers
Indeed but I think it’s important to know that since I think that sony don’t warn people about that (I know because some people I know bought the ps4 without knowing that)
Seriously? Damn, was going to get a PS4 sometime down the line. With knowing that, I’ll just stick with PC…
I remember Sony saying that it was optional for game developers to implement it, or that not all games will need PS+ to play online, or somewhere along those lines. Can someone confirm or deny this? with actual links and proof please.

The only games who will have free online multiplayer are free-to-play.
I don’t plan on getting the Xbox One any time soon. To be honest my PS3 and PS4 get more use then my Xbox 360, and I don’t feel any justification at buying another system I may not use. For now, I think I will stick to Playstation and Nintendo, we’ll see in the future
So long-time Gold subscribers will be sc***. And btw the new price doesn’t give the Xbox One a boost, it’s still the same system, with nothing interesting compared to the PS4. As everyone’s saying, the PS4 is the clear winner of this gen.
Remember when the Dreamcast was the best selling console of all time within the first 24 hours until the PS4 finally beat it? Yeah, the Dreamcast was the clear winner of 2 gens ago right? It’s too early to tell.
Dreamcast was never the clear winner of 6th gen, sales dropped as soon as the PS2 was announced (not even released, but ANNOUNCED).
Microsoft, you’re late
No. Its still weaker than PS4, thus not worth the same price as it.
They should put Nintendo in the middle of the Picture LMAO
