What kind of loser would be happy about sony’s problems ? It’s the last remaining decent platform out there get a life kid.

  4. BlackFire27 says:

“Focus on the vita” they clearly don’t remember how hard they murdered the market with the PSP. If they actually did some work on that thing they would be making a lot more money.

  5. whatwhat says:

Doesn’t Sony make the majority of it’s money from insurance and cameras, though? And dammit, why does it have to be Sony. Why not fecking Microsoft.

    • fate6 says:

Because MS has one heck of a monopoly going for it.

      • Acid_Snake says:

with a strong competition from mobile phones and tablets, following with windows 8 disaster? I doubt they’re having any good time, otherwise they wouldn’t have changed their entire staff.

        • Telgar says:

You forget Acid_Snake, Microsoft makes so much money from its older Windows operating systems that nothing it does could ever put a dent in its automatic money making machines. Every ATM in the world uses Windows XP, most all government organizations in the US use Windows, and Every PC sold with Windows is royalties profits to Microsoft. They can never go bankrupt as long as their monopoly exists.

          • Acid_Snake says:

Any company, at any time, no matter how much money they have, can go bankrupt in the blink of an eye. All it takes is really bad decisions so that income is lower than outcome. Of course they have the money to withstand a big blow after the other for some time, but sometimes these blows aren’t the ones that directly contribute with a company’s downfall, but the aftermath is usually what does (loosing customers, gradually loosing sales, some businesses becoming less profitable, etc). In the case of MS, we’re already seeing how they can’t keep up with the smartphone and tablet market, it’s a market they should have never entered using the same business model as PCs, it just doesn’t work, as for consoles, while they can withstand the blow, it can cause them long term problems (neither Atari nor Sega instantly die with their failures, but the aftermath is what gradually made them fall down), and when it comes to PC, the same thing applies. They have a lot to do to prevent disastrous aftermaths and they have to do it fast, the more time they wait and the more they continue to try to fix their erratic products rather than starting over and changing their methods, the more harm they’ll eventually get.
btw most ATMs in the world use OS/2 by IMB, not windows.

I agree that they should be focusing on the playstation brand more. They seem to have gravitated away from the whats makes playstation a great brand in the past….The Games!

  7. Adams Myth says:

This is Sony as a group and not just specific divisions of the company.

The Walkman brand lost to the Ipod.
The VAIO brand did not work well – plus the change in the PC industry overall.
They lost to Samsung in the TV market.
These are some of the major blows to the company

Their renewed focus of TVs, mobile and Playstation is – IMHO – a correct step in terms of business strategy. This would mean better overall quality of products and services – which is something that they want and something that I look forward to.

Always have loved the designs of Sony products; I think the problem was (especially for the VAIO) putting a premium price tag for a cheaply manufactured product line. Who were they kidding?

The news is not alarming – it is normal for multinational consumer electronics companies to lose money during and after a recession. The important thing is that you do something about it.

Doesn’t Sony also spend a lot of money for research? I know for example that they are working on the successor of the blueray-disc. So, that’s a sector where you don’t make profit yet, right? You start making profit after you’ve brought the product to the market and are able to sell it well, isn’t it?

    • Thrawn says:

Should I tell you something funny. Blu ray ain’t profitable. 🙂

I can spit over to sony’s blu ray factory, well at least to one of them, the other one is about 30 km away from me.
I know for a fact, that one of those factories is not producing blu ray’s anymore due to unprofitability, they have shifted their production line to medical stuff like disease fast testers and other equipment needed for dna researching.

The other plant still continues to produce blu ray’s and dvd’s but at reduced productivity, from 10 liner they had, I heard 5 of them are still going, the rest has been either disassembled and stored or shipped to czechia.

Does anybody need a cheap UMD liner? Send your inquiries here: http://www.sonydadc.com/en/contact/#/austria-13

    • Telgar says:

Sony is first and foremost a research and hardware company at heart. They spend a LOT of money on research, that is how they have come up with all of the different pieces of hardware and new devices and new formats. I dont think Sony would ever end its research division though, its via their ability to create new things that has made them the powerhouse they are.

  10. yes says:

    focus on vita

  11. capcomlegend says:

Remember when cingular joined at&t… I got a feeling in my gut that sony is gonna merge with samsung at some point…can you imagine the products they would come out with ?

  12. KaInEvIL says:

Sony’s quality control has decreased abruptly in the last few years. I’ve had really bad experiences with a bunch of their products. It seems that the only think they can think of to reduce costs is using the cheapest components and manufacture.

  13. FBJ says:

“So what is the loss from?”

The fickle smartphone crowd and their braindead games, that’s what. Essentially the casual gaming element that never was completely loyal to true gaming to begin with.

    • Sky Yuki says:

Why not bring braindead games to vita then
Surely that will bring smartphone crowd to vita too
Andddd PS Mobile is not all regions so make it all regions

      • FBJ says:

“Why not bring braindead games to vita then..”

Oh, they’re making inroads, believe me. It’s called the indie game scene. Alas though, smartphone idiots would rather carry two iPhones than carry an iPhone and Sony portable.

  14. Shuu says:

Well, the best way to get some cash would be to sell the licences from Japan-only games to other countries, to begin with america and than the EU. I dunno why they didn’t start it from the beginning, but now is the right time for it!

(Well, one of the reasons why they might not do it is because the other countries don’t like anime ***, but come on, they have to focus on them)

  15. Faiz says:

Buy the pokemon license, make a ultimate pokemon vita game, all fanboys will mmove to vita and sony will burst with sales.Only two problems
    1.Sony cant afford
    2.Nintendo are gonna be stubborn
    CMON POKEMON

  16. Vladimir Lennin says:

financial big trouble of Sony is due to theirs very expensiv digital consumer products: TV 4k1(around US$3400 – US$6800 between 32” and 64”) and the latest PS4 (around US630 – US$720)

  17. Acid_Snake says:

Stop making stupid and useless security measures on the Vita (sceNet, big files, etc) and use that money to open small studios to make more AAA Vita games.

  18. LennyVita says:

What you get out of life, is what you put into it. If Sony took the time and get some AAA games and bring back a few top selling title franchises with new games they would be in a better situation.

If Sony did have something like Monster Hunter, a good call of duty game, Gran turismo vita, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Dark Souls vita and any other top franchise they would be alot better.

I have no pity for Sony, they don’t want to focus on the vita, so too bad for them. their loss. The vita is the best hand held device a person can buy for portable gaming.

As long as people here are focused on the vita, it has more value to me than what Sony can offer.

People suggesting improvements on the PlayStation side of things are missing the point: Playstation is doing very fine. It’s the rest of Sony that’s not doing so well.

cant wait for E3 this year, their gonna show 10 minutes of gameplay footage of the new Uncharted the battle of gravelines and the game will make full usage of the upcoming VR Headset for the PlayStation 4 along with the new & improved matching PlayStation Move add-on. I see Sony pushing more towards the VR Headset which is rumored to be priced at $250 at launch with developers already working on many games

your new website design sux big time. i had ur site as startpage for my browser … now i can tell you that its not nice, cool or anything in between.
i wont return here. too bad u are looking more for the money than for ur visitors.

    congratz on this ***. bye

    • wololo says:

The new website design was implemented at the direct request of readers here who found the previous design to be inconvenient on Mobile devices (phones and tablets). It is generating less advertising revenue than the previous design, and that was definitely not a move for money. I’m sad you see it this way

If samsung comes up with a console right now then that’ll be the end of sony.

  24. BooBoo2014 says:

It would soon be a good time for Sega to return and have sweet revenge on the company that robbed the glory that it should have got with the Dreamcast. Sony really turned for the worst and become one of the shiftiest companies in the mid 90’s. From over inflated console specs, to raiding the makers of Bleem’s office, to writing fake blurbs about their movies. I couldnt care less if they shut shop and disappeared for good.

The 80’s and early 90’s was Sony’s best years as a company. After that, they turned to ***. Their laptops are the biggest piece of *** yet yield a premium price. If carma does exsist, Sony only knows too well how *** they really are for all the wrong doing they have done in the past.

  25. Nicholas says:

Sony’s camera division is doing a great job. The Sony A7 is in a fact a unique camera, a full frame mirrorless body. Nobody else at the moment is making anything like it, except for the premium german brand Leica, and their cameras cost $8000 and are luxury products. The A7 costs $2000, and produces images on par with professional Nikon and Canon cameras that cost $3000. It is the most innovative camera to be released in several years, and is seen as a glimpse into the future of cameras.
Additionally Sony has a huge lead in image sensors with high dynamic range and on-sensor analog to digital conversion. Sony is now supplying Nikon with their image sensors, and Canon is having a major struggle to keep up with Sony’s technology.
Sony’s camera division is willing to think out side of the box, and produce products that other companies aren’t even thinking about yet. The imaging division is like the electronics company Sony is supposed to be. Why is this the case? Perhaps the fact that all the high end cameras are still made in japan has something to do with it. Cameras are high precision products and unlike most other electronics, Korean/Chinese companies remain unable to compete with the Japanese engineering in this area.
