PS4 And Xbox One Getting Their Own Exclusive TV Shows?

What exactly is a television channel? Shows have been pouring out of the major broadcasting stations for years. Now, the sources of tv shows have changed. HBO, Cinemax, Showtime. Then, the age of streaming, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu. This “tv channel” definition is about to be changed again.
Ever since the announce of the Xbox One, Microsoft has been started talk about a Halo tv show. About a week ago, Sony announced their first exclusive tv series, Powers, based off of a graphic novel about a pair of dectectives who embark on journeys to investigate superheroes. Both consoles already have apps for streaming services, but now, it seems like they want to create their own exclusive entertainment programs. Why are Sony and Microsoft doing this?
Many fans of Powers think that creating a tv show out of the graphic novel would be great. But is it worth paying $400 dollars for a console, and possibly also getting a PS+ subscription? You could think of the answer the same way as you think about “Do I want to pay $500 in order to play Forza?” or “$400 in order to play Killzone?”
Because of this, it seems clear that Sony and Microsoft are aiming this at people who already own their consoles. I highly doubt that anyone would pay at least $400 just to watch a tv show. What probably is going to happen, is that these shows will be free with a Plus or Gold subscription. Just another way to boost sales.
One thing is for sure, making a television series is not cheap. This stunt is taking a big risk for both companies. Sony has made a very good decision in a production company. They have chosen Sony Pictures Television (gee wow!). Sony is lucky, unlike Microsoft to already have their own production company. The thing is, Sony Pictures Television is actually good at making tv shows. Among one of the best and most popular is Breaking Bad, a show about a science teacher who quits his job to go start a meth lab. In my opinion, Sony is in good hands. With themselves.
And then there is Microsoft. They also could be very successful, considering that production beast, Steven Spielberg is helping out with their Halo show.
That’s all for now from me, The Jay Doctor. What are your thoughts on this Sony and Microsoft idea? Is it going to be successful? Let me know in the comments below, or on Twitter where you can contact/follow me @The_Jay_Doctor using the handy links below.
First :p anyways, I like the direction Sony and Microsoft are going in. To me it’s just for promotional purposes and it’s just another way of having ads. heck they might as well just make their own network
mmmmmmm…… I don’t think so 😀
So what’s your point? Do you like their newest purposes? Would you consider to watch their shows? I think I wouldn’t…
You know that sooner or later it will be all over on internet anyway right???
And when it’s on internet it would be available on all devices
Yes, some people do find TV shows online that are illegally recorded. This is saying that it will not officially be available on other devices.
In Breaking Bad, did Walt actually quit? I remember he was on medical leave in the first season (or two?) but I don’t remember him actually quitting. The first four seasons were all supposed to be in the same year.
Sony has had regular TV shows on the playstation for a while now (The Tester, qore) so this should be neat.
also, I’d think of it as an additional bonus to my PS+ sub.
