PS4 Firmware 1.62 is out!

The latest PS4 update 1.62 was just silently released by Sony. If you were expecting some huge improvement over some specific feature or game, you’re probably up for some disappointment, as the only advertised change is the following:
Operation quality during use of some Playstation4 format software has been improved
Set aside what that actually means (the console crashes less when playing PS4 games? ) It’s pretty frequent for minor increments in the firmware number to match a very tiny change on Sony’s side. That, or it could be a security patch in disguise (also known as “stability improvements” in Sony’s Public Relation language).
Yes, most likely yet another useless update, but if you were experiencing some issues in some specific PS4 games, you might want to give this one a try.
As it hasn’t been publicly announced by Sony yet, it seems you can still use PSN functionality without updating for now and that the update is not mandatory yet, but I haven’t tested that myself yet, so feedback on this is welcome!
And yes, we are still waiting for that Vita update…

PS4 Update is out . WHEN WILL THE VITA UPDATE IS GOING TO BE RELEASED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you really want a Vita update?
There is no need to update the. Vita except to fix the bugs it’s got but $ony don’t really care about the bugs. It take them about 10 firmwares and about 2 years to fix 1 bug that’s been reported by everyone.
It looks like they can’t patch all those games and the kernel exploit that’s why it’s taking so long for the next Vita firmware which will only be a exploit remover, nothing more. It will also bring lots of bugs with it as they won’t test it prior to releasing it, it will be a rushed release and I’m betting a lot of consoles will be bricked because of that.
Now do you really want a vita update? I don’t and I don’t even have TNV as I never got one of those games as most weren’t available here.
i do,, i don’t care about TNV
So your logic is to bring on another useless update which you are forced to download if you want to play on psn? Dude I’m so glad they didn’t push an update yet, I was waiting for Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster and if they weren’t so slow to fixing the kernel exploits I would have probably been sc***. Only other chance I had was to use Charles Proxy or something like to bypass.
with te time its taking, it won’t be that kind of update. Either a X.00 update or a 0.X0 update
the main f***ing reason why some of us need an update is because we dont care about tnv i had it for a month and got bored i want to see psvita tv get more games compatible if that too hard to ask -_-
Anas You Go To heck! You Go to heck And You Die!! Someone Pimp Slap Him/Her Plz.
Lol HAHA , im excited to see the bugs that they have fixed so please shhhhh
im still waiting for playing psx with sound on TN
Thanks so much for volunteering, the community needs more people like you who take the matter into their own hands! Please keep us up to date with your progress on that.
If it was so easy it would be done, just *** about PS1 (NOT PSX) sound. Anything emulates PS1, sure it sucks you can’t use your Vita for PS1 games but complaining about it won’t help anything. It just gets annoying, as you can tell this is the most sarcasm I probably ever heard Wololo use.
ok lets all stop being dicks to the guy because he simply said what he was waiting for, its not like he asked or begged, jeez. no disrespect but you guys are being *** .
— whines — I want media playback on a device I have over $1300.00 invested in without having to stream… 2.0 please….
Side note — No divX support. I have a couple legit DivX discs (BASEket Ball / Mighty Joe Young ) Which show up as a dvd disc (guessing cause the .vob files) but then Im treated to the “you are trying to play this divX disc in a DvD player which does not support the content”….. Ima shove a laser disc in tomorrow to see what happen :-> J/K
Into ps4?
@zorak_torok
DivX? I tried that… the laserdisc I was joking abount in angst
It is odd that Sony isn’t trying to patch the TN-V exploit. But I guess that is also good news. Although I don’t use TN-V anymore, if I’m going to be honest.
Maybe they are implementing some new features for the next firmware update? If that’s the case, then I hope the features will be worth to update for.
They probably think it’s over because TN left us a few days ago. Or maybe Sony just realized that they will never win at the exploit removal game they’re playing with the devs.
I don’t think Sony gave up on this. Because this does involve piracy. And it would be pretty stupid to not patch the exploit, especially with TN retiring from the scene. I’m not saying that they should. But this isn’t how Sony usually acts. They patch up the exploit in like 3 weeks or 1 month.
Maybe they are waiting on the release of the vita slim in the Americas.
Finally, those BF4 and AC4 crashes were annoying. Who else had those games and crashed like 5secs. (I hope this rlly was a fix wont know till one of you says or friday)
I have been lucky.. Ive played b4 online and beat the single player an only had 2 crashes. AC4 has never crashed on me but I havnt played it much. I would like my controller recognition and wifi issues fixed. I also have the video output issues but flipping channels fixes that for now… gonna put some more time on my console befor I use my protection plan…. and get another external hd for my backup.
I think it’s taking longer because maybe we’ll get a remote play with more ps3 games too.
You’re insane…
You wont see a real “stability improvements” ps4 patch until exploits or some major hacks start rolling out most likely its for titles like BF4 and some of the F2P titles (War Thunder etc)
Agreed…. unless they find a flaw themselves. I like the blissfull ignorance of not having a choice at the moment… No choice between online or cfw… No need to buy a second system… Good to be normal for a change of pace… The ability to just play a game instead of downloading, mirroring copies, resigning eboots, updating cfw, tinkering with a billion options, turning internet on/of because of kids, hiding discs because of kids, helping others in forums, asking for help… Im SURE I will jump on the bandwagon when it pulls out in about 3 years, Im just saying that it is nice to keep it real simple for awhile…. BTW, Infamous in 4 days, YAY.
So no infamous for vita?
???? No anouncements I know of….
All I hope for the next update is the ability to buy and use the avatars from PSN Store on your Vita. I can’t download the avatars I bought onto my Vita, I have to download it on my PS3. So this would be a nice feature. If they implement this, then I’ll gladly update.
That would be a great feature… I guess the mentality is that no one buys a Vita without owning a ps3/4…. Come to think about it, I dont remember seeing any avatars on the 4’s store. My FB profile pic got pulled for my avatar and I never tried to change it however the vita is what I set on ps3. Never really thought about it that much. Might have to se what the low down on all that is.
The upcoming PlayStation 4 firmware update (version 1.7?) will add Share enhancements and will let you turn HDCP off, Sony has announced.
“A lot more coming in this update as well,” the company teased. Expect more details and a release in the coming weeks.
Here’s the official info:
Here at PlayStation, we listen closely to your comments and requests, which are weighted heavily when looking at the future of our platforms. Since PlayStation 4 launched, we’ve heard a lot of great feedback from you about what you like with the platform and what you’d like to see us work on.
I’m happy to report that, as a direct result of your feedback, we’ll soon be bringing some of your most-requested features to PS4 with a system software update in the upcoming weeks. These features and additions will help make your PS4 even more socially connected by further enabling you to customise your most epic gaming moments and granting even more options to show them to your friends.
This upcoming update will add a rich video editor with a simple tool to personalise your video clips, and you’ll also be able to export to and save the videos and screenshots you create by pressing the SHARE button to a USB drive. In addition, this update will add an HDCP off option for capturing gameplay via HDMI, a feature we’ve previously said would come after launch.
We recognise that some gamers want to record and share longer clips of their gameplay sessions, and we’re excited to deliver this option with PS4. There’s a lot more coming in this update as well, so stay tuned for more — there will be plenty in the update to excite everyone.
As part of a separate system software update in the future, we have been working with our partners at Twitch and Ustream, and will also be adding the ability for Twitch broadcasts to be archived – another highly requested feature among PS4 fans who are taking advantage of the SHARE button features. These broadcasts will be also provided with a higher resolution of 720p, so PS4 fans can enjoy live broadcasts with clearer images. We’ll have more to come on these updates and more in the coming weeks.
That sounds great… mabey a work around finally… Game captures to usb… Videos should be able to play if formated correctly unless they are for upload only. I would hate to put a movie on and have to watch it through edit in that little window, but its a start.
