PS4eye, the tools to hack the Playstation 4 Camera

The PS4eye blog recently came to my attention thanks to an anonymous tipster: Although PS4 hacking is in its infancy, we are starting to see some really cool stuff out there, and one of the most promising initiatives so far is PS4eye, a series of tools designed to hack the PS4 camera.
The PS4 camera has pretty nice features, and it would really be awesome to be able to use it on a PC directly, for some cool Augmented Reality or computer vision projects (reminder for Sony: the Kinect became insanely cool when Microsoft decided it was ok for people to play with it on their PC). As it turns out, the PS4 camera cable seems to be standard USB3, and “tiny” modifications of the port let the people behind ps4eye connect their PS4 camera to a PC.

Then of course comes the difficult work of understanding the camera’s internal communication protocol, and cross fingers that the data is not encrypted. Recent progress from the ps4eye team let them initialize the PS4 camera from linux, and dump the communication. One step closer to using the PS4 camera on a PC?

Honestly, I think it would be of much use if the new Kinect. Like make use of the sonar.
I don’t know about kinect 2, but the first one is already openly available for anyone who wants to use it on PC for investigation.
I bought the Kinect before having an XBOX console.
Why stupid Sony doesn’t understand the potential of some things?
because there’s little potential for the kinect in the gaming world and Sony perfectly understands it, it’s microsoft who fails to see that. Kinect sells more amongst computer engineers and other scientists as a great piece of equipment, but when it comes to gaming, it’s just a really expensive gimmick that everyone gets tired of after the first few hours. Motion controls are dead, it was fun, but not something that would last long, even Nintendo, who made motion controls popular, understands this and made the Wii U something else, microsoft on the other hand is trying to milk a cow that doesn’t exist anymore, I have no idea why the f*ck they do those market studies like the ones at my university if they always end up listening to their own egos rather than customers.
it even better if Sony officially support PC like DS4
oops.. Mac & Linux ? PC (Windows) should just die.
If Windows dies then Linux takes over. While Linux is nice it’s so damn varied in distributions it’ll be impossible to form universals Linux programs without going through countless revisions and compilations as long as it remains open source which it will always be.
Mac OS will never be allowed to officially run on non-apple computers because it’s the only reason people buy highly priced Macs to begin with.
That said, Windows 8 needs to die, >.>.
but… but… Jobs wanted Vaio’s to run MacOS-
Oh wait, sony sold Vaio
not true, Android has many distributions (all having different compiled kernels and baseband stuff) and the apps work on all of them, why? cause Java is platform-independent, and when it comes to platform-independent languages, linux has them all: Java, Python, C#, Perl, Ruby, etc
So as long as the core stuff is in C/C++ and open source while indie apps are made in Java, C# or Python, it’ll all be ok amongst all distributions.
That’s not why the apps work on all of them- It’s because variants of Android are all based on Android, and they all use the same package manager.
Here’s another example: All Debian applications work on Linux Mint, because Ubuntu is based on Debian, Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, and they all use the same package manager.
If you want an application be available for multiple package managers you need to compile multiple times, or just give out the source code so users can compile the application themselves.
Or get your *** out of the Gutter, and start programming a TRUE NEXT-GEN OS, which includes proper virtual ai, a good filesystem that doesnt need to be defragmented, and proper security so that NSA and others dont just sniff out our data
