hehe, nice, but still its too bad the usa get it earlier than europe

Is the first time Sony showcased internal hardware?

K, now keep in mid I’ve never worked on laptops. I’m mainly a PC guy. Nor have I worked on the original Xbox, PS2, PS1, etc. Nor have I worked on the PS3 internally. But wouldn’t that design screw with the heat dissipation? There’s absolutely NO clamps for the heatsink. So it’s nowhere near “air tight” nor even snug. A few standard *** screws is nothing for a “computer” that can generate large amounts of heat. That fan isn’t revolutionary either.

So I seriously think there’s going to be a 360 RROD incident with this PS4. Yes the xclamps *** the 360 design good and proper. But still. Standard screws to secure a heatsink? On an entire plate as well instead of directly on the CPU/GPU? Ya, I’m EXTREMELY skeptical.

    • Acid_Snake says:

not to diss you or anything, but I trust a few much more skilled and much more experienced computer engineers than some random guy on the internet who probably has never deeply studied thermal dynamics.

      • Dmaskell92 says:

I agree with you, but I don’t think they can stop Thermal Paste from drying. At the same time, they use lead free solder. After the last generation and failure rates, I’m a bit sceptical myself. All my consoles prior to the ban on lead solder still work. Although they are less powerful as well.

      • xPreatorianx says:

Well I’m not saying I’m an expert by any means. Far from it actually. But it doesn’t even matter if they studied thermal dynamics. I’m sure they had a dedicated engineer(for heat, etc) or two on the 360 and PS3 and look what happened? So to say I’m rather skeptical when the PS4 is only using standard screws and the “securing mechanism” is a large *** plate(looks like aluminum at that) instead of the copper bottom of the heatsink fitting right onto the CPU/GPU, is rather warranted.

        • xPreatorianx says:

BTW when I mean far from it, yes I’ve never studied thermal dynamics very closely. But even still. Standard practice from what I’ve seen over the years indicates it’s a sloppy design. But someone who does know more about heat dissipation – feel free to clear it up. As I am quite curious how this will effect the machine.

I mean I guarantee they put it through it’s paces. But I guarantee they did the same thing for the previous generation as well. So that’s not exactly concrete evidence in and of itself.

right and still u think sony would try running the ps4 fo like 24/7 then for like a mounth none stop but then sony jus put sum warning label that said not to play more then 24 hrs a day with the ps3

      • gunblade says:

well i kinduf wana say that the ps4 boards looks like upside down(in the case) so the cpu upside down so the heat kinduf rising up through the board wen the ps4 horizontal so i guess having the ps4 on a vertical stand would help keep it cooler then horizontal.. but the fan does seems to push the heat to the rear or the ps4

    • gunblade says:

yea the ps4 not like pc cases wear the case push the heat up it jus does like the ps3 and push the heat to the back.. think ill get a refrigerator a small one to keep my ps4 cool

  5. Thrawn says:

Well from the “internal design” it looks very much like a ps3 slim but again only looks like it.
Hopefully this won’t have the overheating issues like the 1st ps3’s had, but my guess is they did not center too much around that problem and only “slimed” down the hardware to get less hot in the first place.

Booked off fri sat and sunday dont think the missus is too happy though nevermind

  8. svenn says:

Good to know : PS4 has 2 CPU’s; 1 main CPU and 1 low powered ARM CPU for standby-tasks (downloading, updates, …)

    • gunblade says:

looks more like the emotion engine in the ps2 look like it got like 512 of dedicated ram crazy looks like most of the ps4 main cpu goes though the secondary one..

I will not be taking the day off. I only work half days, so decided to pick it up on the way home. Just finished paying it off yesterday!

    Now my wallet hurts.

Took the week off starting that friday. Midnight release at gamestop for me. Then social life will be dead for 7 days.
