PS4 firmware updates already “leaked” on sharing sites, files analyzed by hackers
Before the PS4 is even officially out, Sony announced a firmware update a few days ago. Hackers who have been closely monitoring what’s going on with the PS4 are already looking into those files to understand what’s going on. It’s not unusual for early console firmwares to have bugs, sometimes big enough to lead to exploits, so it’s not a surprise that these early patches from Sony are being monitored.
Developer SKFU published an analysis of the PS4 PUP file (the file containing the firmware update). The file he published appears to be for the 1.00 firmware, and not the upcoming PS4 1.50 firmware.
Soon after that, the official update files from the latest firmware were added to sharing sites, as mentioned by The Z. The PS4 firmware files can be found here, although Sony is known for hunting down any site hosting their firmware updates, on the basis of copyright infringement (whatever that can possibly mean for encrypted files…).
In the meantime, it appears Sony pulled the initial files. According to mathieulh, this is most likely because the 1.00 firmware update had been incorrectly labeled as 1.50 by mistake.
@SKFU_PS3 It’s firmware 1.00, I just checked.

Finally, according to mathieulh again, the Retail firmwares are signed with different keys than the early devkit ones, which makes sense. (During the early PS Vita days, it was believe the same keys as the PSP were used to sign some content on debug firmwares, while that changed on the retail ones)
I looked at the ps4/orbis retail firmware, the keys definitely changed from the older devkit revisions.

It is worth mentioning that those firmwares are encrypted, and may not really be a valuable source of information, at least to the majority of the community. It’s fun to look at the headers of a new file type, but it most likely won’t reveal anything major.

is this not published to the front page? I was only able to access this article from the link in your tweet.
Nevermind, weird, just took a bit of time to show up.
magic of cache 😉 control-F5 helps.
I love to see files analyzed by hackers
LOL
I doubt they will make the same mistake of PSP. They also aren’t in a hurry, since x1 will be later released, and not global; So they have time to make sure no dum-dum errors are made; Though you never know, human error is human error no mather howmuch time they have.
Sure believe what SKFU says that *** said that he had a native vita hack in the early release of the ps vita, but here we are more than a year later and he hasnt posted anything about it…so im gunna say he is fake and all of his “hacks and leaks” about ps4 are fake. the z in the other hand is a trusted dev in the vita community and is more reliable than SKFU so i believe him over SKFU, but it’s cool if SKFU wants to play dev in his little world…
well vita exploit or not, he IS known for analyzing file structures and having tools which allow him to access Sony’s servers (well at one point) so do your research first.
I agree that he hasn’t said anything but I guess you haven’t read the previous post.
did he get caught cuz talk was china making a cyber army and now russia and us trying da same but its jus talk so idk realy…
He kinda has every right to be, though hes a bit *** *** in his assumptions. SKFU had something for the Vita, but he either decided he is never going to share it, or lost it and refuses to tell people otherwise to safe face. The point is he said he had an exploit for the fame and then never mentioned it again which is a *** move.
That said the man DOES know what he is doing. Whether this matters to us is unknown, since he has a track record of not giving a *** about releasing his valuable stuff or losing it and not letting us know. In other words no one should care about SKFU until he actually delivers.
think he’s waiting for like ps2 on da vita..
Well all I’m seeing is they better not *** up this ps4 with hackers getting anything from it. I just read the FAQS about the ps4 and I think that will be enough cool stuff on it. So I better see a clean slate.
The posts I wanna see in the next few years is ps3 this and psvita that. So maybe there will be a good chance the vita will be ANOTHER easy psp HACK.
Boss?
what about a firmware that does not say data corrupted
when used by ps3 proxy replace logs … only one so far is 3.55anyversioncfw
but still fails after downloading no crc valid
but what about a crc enabled custom firmware will something like it ever come ?
It’s not just SKFU who’s full of it, Mathieulh also is.
He claims the firmware is 1.00, but has *no* proof that it is.
He assumed so based on a wild guess of a random byte that says “1”.
Yet, he ignores the fact that some people have installed the said firmware on a retail PS4 and indeed shows 1.50!
installed on a “retail PS4”? Those havent been released yet. did you mean retail PS3?
There are already several magazines, reviewers and testers that already have a retail PS4.
Why would I mean a PS3 when talking about a PS4 PUP?
Aw, this was an extremely good post. Spending some time and
actual effort to generate a great article?
but what can I say? I put things off a lot and never seem to get anything done.
