  1. Netrix says:

That is not a dev kit… It’s just a retail consumer model.

    • BATMAN says:

True to that, I was going to say the same thing

      • wololo says:

The manuals are conveniently positioned on top of the unit to hide the stickers showing it is a devkit, if my understanding is correct.

        • Netrix says:

That’s a good point. I didn’t notice that. I sort of assumed that Microsoft would have done something similar to the X360 and add extra hardware to the side of the device for disc emulation and such. I imagine he was making up that he was going to get games for it, but I wonder if the Xbox One dev kits can’t play retail games just like the X360 dev kits can’t.

    • GodLikeClarens says:

Every Xbox One is a dev kit or should i should i say can be turned into one

  2. TelgarDrakore says:

Ya that doesnt seem to be a devkit at all, the devkits dont look anything like the actual console and never ever look like a retail setup.

    • Cheesethief says:

The PS3 debugging DEX units all look like the actual console, just with a TEST logo under the PS3 logo. The manuals look like they are covering something too. Why would you put the manuals on top like that and not just next to the unit?

Another thing is that the box is totally white. It is not colorful like a retail box would be.

The dev units that do not look like the console are the reference tool units. The also known as DECR’s in the PS3 world. These are the things that look like PCs/large DVRs.

      • fantomphox says:

your talking test units. even than test units have more ports to work with for debug reasons. also devkits never (repeating) NEVER look like the consumer system. my guess this guy has a brother or something working for gamestop and game him the system.

    • StepS says:

don’t forget this isn’t Sony. we can’t know for sure.

    • ohai says:

Newer Xbox One dev kits are just retail consoles with the devkit software running on it. There are no extra hardware features on these kits. This is because MS will allow indie devs to use their home console for developent through a paid program much like Apple’s dev program or PSM.

Older kits(pre announcement) would look different as the console design was not yet finalized then. They would also display the system’s developement code name on them. (Durango, iirc)

The manuals are probably just placed there to make it look nicer. Instead of placing them in a stack or whatnot.

Why was I not surprised, that when it comes to the Xbox it’s got to be some 10yr old kid.

    • Cheesethief says:

This is probably not “his” console. If it really is a dev unit, which it looks like it is, then his parents probably brought it home. Maybe his dad works at a game developer studio…

Dev units are not the property of the purchaser either, they are the property of the company, rented out to developers for quite the amount of money.

While i laughed at the wii u comment, sadly it’s got most of what i’m interested in at the moment..I’m a pretty RPG heavy guy myself, that or action that doesn’t involve shooting, and PS4..I’ve not heard any game i really care too much about, at least yet.

Xbone has dead rising 3, but everyone knows capcom is the king of milking games, so it will only be a few years before it hits PC, more than likely, and if in a few years it still hasn’t, hopefully by then the whole BS part of the Xbone will be cleaned up.

Wii u though..Pikmin 3, X, Windwaker HD, SMT X Fire Emblem..I don’t have doubts that when it’s all settled, PS3 will soar beyond the Wii U in terms of things i want, but..I mean..Xenoblade Chronicles showed you don’t need X-TREME 4K RESOLUTION GRAFIX!!!! to make awesome games. D:

    • Sky Yuki says:

I’m already surprise how graphic like that could be on wii (for xenoblade)
Wii U had a good exclusive game if you into that (Wii U as you said mostly exclusive rpg game)
While PS4 would mostly have exclusive action game
Xbox one??? I HAVE NO IDEA (aka i never touched xbox 360 either)

  5. Goku says:

tell your friends playing old consoles and worst of all the Wii U??? LOL what is shameful about telling I’m playing an old console?? It’s always wise to wait and see which consoles get on the top and then get it. And for you kind of information I’m pretty sure Wii U is gonna get on track soon and leave everyone behind like Wii did. The same was said during then and it still became the most famous and sold console in the world for years. 😛

    • BahamutBBob says:

The thing about that is, for the first year(?) of the Wii’s life, you were lucky to find one. That has not been the problem with the WiiU at all. I bought one on impulse a couple weeks ago (Zelda bundle!) and had no problem having it arrive at my house a few days later.

  6. BahamutBBob says:

It looks to be about the same size as the original 360 or PS3 model. Hardly massive.

It’s much smaller than my PC, which is in the medium/slightly large size range. It looks like it’s about the size of one of the slim PC cases.

It’s hardly the size of a massive PC. I wouldn’t be surprised if the PS4 is a similar size.

  7. Haze7 says:

PS4 Dev kit isvery different from the console itself

  8. NNNRT says:

After 30 years people won’t believe this was released in the same year as the PS4. 😆

  9. wqdwwa says:

rofl I still have a GameCube.

Last time I checked up on the console scene was when people thought the PS3 was complete and utter garbage because it was too expensive and had no games. That was like 5 years ago. o.o

Funny how the cycle keeps repeating. This time it’s Microsoft getting hammered. Interesting…

  10. russia307 says:

Xbox One Dev-Kits are White and looks like a retail but all in white colour!

  11. 110706 says:

“which really looks like a massive PC” uhmmm what are you talking about?

Massive PC? i didnt knew you could fit a titan in there along with a 600W PSU, a mobo with 4slots for RAM and a nice big CPU cooler. You talk like a sony fanboy

    • svenn says:

And you sound like a m$ fanboy 🙂

Luckly i’m not m$ or $ony fanboy, since i’m on a ‘nix computer that runs all my games. Also, you might get a hint at the sarcasm of the writer … unless you really think that getting the “next-gen console” 2 months late is a world problem, the UN should resolve ASAP.
