Where is the news about the gpu upgrade?

  2. Aerione says:

    ^This
There was no mention of it in the news.

  3. Cheesethief says:

Would they really have had the time to manufacture enough units with an upgraded GPU in time for the launch?

I think not. The upgrade is probably still nothing more than a overclock.

  4. JeoWay says:

I still dont see why people would buy this.

~$60 mandatory (basically) for even offline features.
    ~50% LESS powerful than PS4.

    I mean, look:

    PS4 CPU @2.75ghz
    Xbone CPU @1.75ghz
Ps Vita CPU approximately @1.2ghz (2ghz stock clock)

We may as well should just be like the speeds of the Xbone is comparable to the Vita Clock speeds -_-

If you consider the features of the Xbox One vs. PS4: The Xbox One will have cloud gaming where depending on the game can have significant amounts of data processed elsewhere and sent to the Xbox One. There is no need for a 4GHz (exaggerating) CPU if you can have the cloud share the load, this also will allow the console to generate less heat. Your being narrow minded using just numbers.

All your saying is “BUY THE DRAG CAR, IT GOES FAST!” until you take it around a corner…

      • Michael says:

Unless it will be streaming video to your screen, cloud processing will require a heck of an internet connection. At least a gigabit to do anything noticable processing wise.

      • Buzzsaw says:

Ever heard of lag? Who in their right might would use cloud computing as an alternative to a faster CPU? These are games, not Electric Sheep (Google it).

      • The Kick says:

Corner? What a ridiculous analogy. Is the corner supposed to be heat? Both companies have a history of ventilation problems, anyway. How does a slower processor help ensure the XB1 will have less heat? Proper thermal design and case ventilation could keep the PS4 just as cool. Or, the XB1, due to design could still be hotter. So, what are you trying to express? Just as he was looking from one perspective, so are you. You didn’t acknowledge the other factors involved: Internet connection/speed dependence and console design.

      • Z says:

There are already latency issues in between internal PC components, which have speeds going way faster than the average internet speeds( heck, some are even faster than some of the faster internet connections).

      • Jeoway says:

Ps4 has Gaikai which Is heck of lot better than using xbl servers. Sony could easily do the same thing…

        • gunblade says:

yea but if i the head ceo of sony i would have bought out atnt dell dish network a cable company and a server type company like hp… then i would be ceo of a guess a boss computer gaming company and internet…and the play station network would be as boos as the wow network and
china super computer with the tera flops…

      • LOL says:

what if you don’t have internet?

    • The Kick says:

Only the clock speeds would be comparable. (not really.) The XB1s processor is physically bigger and thus, more powerful. It was pretty pointless to mention comparable clock speeds. And I don’t see why people would by this over a custom PC. You could get better specs at better values. I don’t understand why you even compared the consoles on such a basis to support your opinion. The PC, on such logic, is a better choice than the consoles. I have a PC I’m working on now and for $150 more than these consoles I packed in a 4.10 ghz i7 with all other specs equal to or greater than the consoles.

      • buzzsaw says:

I’m pretty sure CPU power doesn’t work that way. CPUs 10 years ago are much larger than CPUs today and not nearly as powerful.
Speed is determined by how many it can go through in a second, right? So the one with a higher clock speed would be faster.

        • Z says:

If that was true, than an FX-9590 at 4.7GHz( 5GHz with Turbo-Core) should destroy an i7-3770k at 3.5GHz( 3.9GHz with Turbo Boost) in everything, which it doesn’t. No, it’s not all about the clock speeds. It’s much deeper than that. Honestly, the only time someone should be comparing clock speeds is between processors with the same architectures. Otherwise, there are a lot more factors.

          • gunblade says:

what if i had a board with a built in cpu but it has an upgrade slot for an extra cpu… its be cool..

          • gunblade says:

well i did try the i7core with turbo n hyper threading i have a Pentium ht the early intels with ht and its prety shity but i guess ht in the new cores is alright n i guess they fixed the problems they were having in the earlier cores

        • aces says:

clock speeds are marketing hype nowadays. its all about amount of transisters on the processor dye, size of the transisters, their architectual alignment, lv0 caching less so lv1 and 2 caching, instruction sets used.
As the Z said, unless both processors are archtectually identicle, Ghz is just a number with no real bearing at all.

          • Z says:

Lol, I’m not The Z. It just happens that I picked “Z” as my “permanent”( I don’t like changing names much) before I found out about The Z

      • Z says:

Believe me, I would rather build a PC than buy a console( though I would like a PS4 to try the remote-play capabilities), but does everybody else want to do so top? No. Not everyone can or wants to build a PC. I know that it’s easy, but even a small inconvenience can put people off. Not to mention that it asks for a higher up front cost to play games at ( what I think are) comparable levels to the next-gen consoles.

And for strictly gaming, the next-gen consoles seem to offer more value, IMO. Sure, you can build a PC that costs as much as next-gen and probably have more power overall, but if games cannot use the hardware to their full potential, then it’s gonna end up playing games at a lower quality( though probably only slightly) than the next-gen. Games are a heck of a lot more optimized on consoles than in PCs( I’m sure you know the reason, PC hardware diversity and all), so the next-gen aren’t as weak as you think. Why do you think the current gen can still play newer games?

        • Thrawn says:

          Partly true, partly not true.
On a console, developers have a unified architecture, every console of that kind is the same, no variety, no differences, so they optimize till they can’t optimize anymore.
But on the other hand this is a consoles biggest problem, it is static, you can’t just go and build in a better processor, more ram, faster gpu… it breaks compatibility with everything before that point.
So that’s a pc’s biggest advantage, the software might not be that hardcored optimized as on a console, but the variety of hardware available and option to enhance is always there.
Go and compare crysis 3 with xbox/ps3 and then compare to a standard of the art modern pc. Winner PC.
Same goes for the xbone and the ps4, two years maybe less, until then the pc’s will have beaten them again.
And on a side note, a pc is able to run even “legacy” software from periods gone by and not just with an emulator. A console isn’t.

          • Z says:

Well, I was meaning for it to be a strength. If you want hardcore graphics and performance, get a PC, but if you want to game on the cheap without much sacrifice to graphics and/or performance, get a next-gen console.

        • gunblade says:

i was think to upgrade to the ps4 or build a small ne.t.wo.rk think of building the net.wo.rk.. cheap server. three mini atx running one windows 8.. i wana make a gaming pc seen sum pretty good looking boards…. ooh an for the ps4 an vita remote play got a vita jus for that also want to get a nividia shield since its seems alot better

    • Sebas says:

I dont pretend to sound rude, but you can’t compare differents machines by it’s clock speed only (it’s a common error). You also need to know the architecture of the machine in order to know the number of instructions per cycle (depends on the pipeline, or how the architecture manages the instructions paralelism). For example, if the Xbox can double the instructions per clock cycle, it would be more powerful than the PS4. Note that i’m not saying that one is better than the other, i’m just saying that you can’t infer which one is better by looking exclusively to it’s clock speed or say that the Xbox is 50% less powerful because it have less clock speed.

      • gunblade says:

so we should compare how good the console play a game compared to say a boss pc.. i was think if i was to put an hd capture card in to a pc with four 6GB AGDRR5 and a ps3 connected to the hd capture card wouldn’t the ps3 graphics be better… reMote play with a vita a good thing but wanted to try the nividia shield since its like the same thing but for a pc but i think i need a better pc..

  5. Adams Myth says:

    Lol,

    This conversation’s going nowhere.

    As for minimur’s question:
No, I don’t think that it will be a huge advantage for Sony.

  6. kei says:

lol everyone totally got trolled by JeoWay… The post that generates the most controversial debates = winner!

    Here’s whats gonna happen:
    – Fanboys and girls will stick to their respective consoles
    – The rich mofos and super nerds will still get one of each
    – Most of us will sit and wait it out til more titles come out, meanwhile perpetuating the unhealthy yet unavoidable second hand console and game market of the current gen systems (as we did with the PS2 market)

    • Jeoway says:

Trolled? Sorry for stating facts about the xscam.

If you seriously want to take it dry drom M $ get a gaming pc. U built one a few weeks ago. And still got ps4 preordered.

    • shapeshifter says:

Naah I’m no longer a console person 2 bricked ps3 s beyond repair and just out of warranty inspired me to build my own PCs and I’m never gonna look back I don’t wanna spend on a console anymore would rather get a wayy better pc IMO the last good home console was the ps2 after that its just pure bs in matters of price and quality
U pay soo much for the console then for a good TV and home theater to complete the experience then spend on accessories and then games and then pay for online etc etc etc
My pc can do this with the same style of add ons and can be repaired etc very easily

  7. Nintendo says:

    Xbox Go Home

  8. me says:

    PS4 CPU @2.75ghz.. are u drunk, JeoWay?

    • Z says:

That’s the maximum operating frequency for the dev kits. Meaning the CPU is capable of going up to such clock speeds( usually it clocks up only when it really needs to, like during CPU intensive processes), but the base clock will most likely be lower( around the rumored 1.6GHz-20GHz). Plus the fact that it’s a dev kit.

      • me says:

        I have a quote for u:
“The 2.75GHz “maximum clock frequency in the system” is clearly the WCLK of the GDDR5 running at the announced 5.5 Gbps. GDDR5 needs two clock signals to work, one at 1.375GHz and the other one at the mentioned 2.75GHz (for 5.5Gbps operation), which is likely the highest clock in the system, not the CPU clock.”

        • Z says:

So you just proved my point that 2.75GHz is the highest possible clock speed of the CPU?

          • me says:

u know the difference between cpu and memory clock?

          • Z says:

Sorry, I misinterpreted all of your previous comments.

So what you are saying is the 2.75GHz is the maximum effective clock speed of the GDDR5 pool?

If that’s the case, then it’s kind of hard to believe. With modern GPUs running their GDDR5 RAM from frequencies like 5.0GHz all the way up to 7GHz and all. Some sites are saying that the effective clock is at 5.5GHz, too.

Plus the fact that an APU needs all the memory clock speeds it can take.

          • gunblade says:

jus to talk computer that seems like the gddr5 seems a bit underclock in most of the new cpu like the third gen icore and the amd fx but if my board has four cpu core slots 4 pci slots and two pci slots and i have a 3gb ddr3 graphics cards in the pci express and 6gb gddr5 graphics card in the pci slots running one quad core xenons with 32 gb ddr3 would then i have enough power for the gdrr5….( four core boards cost alots but i seen a two core board that seems boss)

  9. xxx says:

Even though the PS3 was a powerhouse in its heyday, many third-party titles actually performed substantially better on the Xbox 360. The Cell architecture is considered difficult to work with, so many games never received the optimization they so desperately needed on the PS3.

    • Z says:

It’s more than just the Cell CPU. If that was the case, then since they’ve been able to develop for the PS3 for years now, they should be able to use it close to it’s full potential, meaning modern multi-platform games should have looked better on the PS3. But no, it isn’t just the complicated CPU architecture, there were also the weaker GPU and separate pools of memory.

  10. me says:

    @Z
    Quote from Wikipedia:
“On February 20, 2013, it was announced that the PlayStation 4 will utilize 16 4-Gbit GDDR5 memory chips for 8 GiB of GDDR5@5.5Gbits/s (CK 1.375GHz and WCK 2.75GHz) as combined system and graphics RAM for use with its AMD-powered APU.”

  11. stupidOPcop says:

hey wolololololol (a mock up of trolololololol)
you’re so stupid and don’t know *** because Xbone didn’t get a GPU upgrade , it was a CPU upgrade … and they didn’t actually upgrade it , they just pushed it to its limits which is seriously dangerous .
though you’re proving to me , day after day , that you are a stupid SoB .Poor bas-tard.
    best regards,

    StupidOPcop

    • wololo says:

Good for you, but I did not write this article… So youre talking to the wrong guy. Who feels stupid now?

      • gunblade says:

i was kind of cuz i was like is it a cpu upgrade or a gpu cuz seem like the xbox one needed a better gpu since the ps4 one seemed better..( its alright to be stupid sumthing in school i helps one from having to do homework)(i wasent to stupid just never realy did my home work)

    • gunblade says:

ooh geeez last time the xbox 360 was serious pushed it sarted having the red ring..(weird its seems the xbox 360 and ps3 have been downgrade compared to the earlier fat models to the slims the slims seems better more energy saving but the fats seems like the packed more power)hope microsoft did like a 24/7 test were the systems keep running for 7 days straight…
