PS4 Preorders sold out on Amazon, international preorders not possible anymore
It is no surprise that the Playstation 4 seems to be reaching records in terms of pre-order sales. There’s no question that Sony is benefiting from a strong series of announcements around its next-generation console (strong line up, good support of indie devs, reasonable price,…) but also from the disastrous communication around their main competitor: Microsoft’s Xbox one.
I am myself extremely excited about the PS4, and even more so when I discovered that Amazon was taking international preorders (I live in Japan). I was patiently waiting for my bank account to tell me it would be ok to click on the “preorder” button… “just a few more weeks” is what it seemed to keep telling me.
In the meantime, I had the great idea to organize a tiny contest for one of you guys to win a ps4 as well (which is still ongoing, check details here). Given that Amazon was shipping seemingly worldwide (I hate “US only” types of contests…) it felt like a great idea.
After I organized the contest and blogged about it, several of you contacted me to tell me Amazon was only taking preorders for the US. Which greatly surprised me, since I knew they were taking preorders for Japan, I had tested that a few days before writing my contest article.
But I sadly confirmed this was true. Additionally, it seems Amazon is currently out of “preorder” stock and is not taking any preorders anymore, even in the US.

Nooooooo!

I contacted Amazon’s customer service who confirmed to me that international orders will not be possible anymore in the short term future, as they are focusing on the US market for now given the constraints on their PS4 stock. They also did not tell me (of course) when preorders/orders would be back for the US. (you’ll have to sign up for notification emails on their PS4 page for that). They also confirmed to me that existing international preorders are still ok and will not be cancelled. In other words, if you live outside of the US and were able to preorder your PS4 on Amazon before they stopped accepting international orders, you should be fine.
What does this mean for my ps4 giveaway contest? Nothing, I’ll keep doing it as advertised: If Amazon ships to the winner’s country (when the console is back in stocks), then no problem, otherwise I’ll offer the winner $400 in PSN Codes as promised.
Do you guys think the PS4 is on a path to beat all console sales? Or was the stock just poorly planned on Sony’s end?
I guess a lot of people want it bad. ^_^
Good,..
And *** Microsoft.
I thought I messed up BAD after I pre-ordered mine june 24th. I didn’t select the “Launch Edition”, but got the standard edition >.< I just got an email from Amazon tonight which made me feel better:
New estimated arrival date: November 18, 2013Nice 1 sony!

What if the winner was someone who was lucky enough to get a preorder at a store that only took a down payment? Would you be willing to pay for that one, or will the winner have to take the $400 in PSN codes?
I’m much prefer to get my preordered one than wait God knows how long for Amazon to get back in stock…
The “money” I have for this contest is in Amazon gift credit, so I’ll have to go through Amazon. Sorry, I realize it’s not ideal, I was not expecting them to run out of preorder “stock”.
Not to mention such a thing is kinda..There would be no way to make sure that they actually used said money on a PS4, so in a way i’m kinda happy you went the way of amazon gift cards since it allows you (wololo) to keep things inside the general theme (playstation) verses just being like ‘here you go, have 400$ for bills or something’, y’know?
Would you be willing to wait until the ps4 was back in stock at amazon?
I’ll choose the winner before that (end of this month), but if that person doesn’t mind waiting, I’ll be fine with it too, it will be up to the winner at that point
Thanks for the quick reply wololo appreciate it and all your hardwork for the scene(s)
Well, luckily Amazon sells Gamestop gift cards. So I can still do if I win :3
Nice post kind of surprised it’s out of stock it will be interesting to see what sale numbers are like a couple of months down the line after it is released.
Its not poorly planned its, always the same marketing, try to make your product hard to get, raises its value; Enough die-hard fans going long stretch to get it “first hand”;
lol! if it’s going to be released in the US in november then my country will only see it around december/january time. i won’t be surprised if its later lol!
Supply = Demand
or in this case “The Demand is strong in this one hmmmmm mmm” XD!
Pre-Orders are still available from Amazon.ca (Where I pre-ordered mine)
They are still available through amazon.co.uk but considering the price difference it might be not so hot.
Everyone will get a ps4 who can afford it i promise you all it will not be like it was when the corny ps3 came out. This time we have more reproduction tools that will make millions of units at a cheap cost for us don’t worry.
If you can wait for the ps4 slim then your a real gamer camper cheers ya bloke heads!
What about for a PSVita instead of a PS4 (or PSN)? If the winner be able to decide, would that be an option?
Yes, why not. A PS Vita is less glamorous than a PS4 at this point, but if the winner prefers that, this will be fine for me too
Well its no suprise that there are no more pre-orders due to lack of stock.
Atleast the international people who ordered before-hand can still get thier PS4.
Im hoping to get one through the contest, or save up $1,080 ECD to buy one sometime next year -_-
If only the Vita had asmuch hype and pre-orders as the PS4, life for sony would be sweet 😀 any maybe they would pay more attention to the Vita.
Will wait for the PS4 hack… the order it….
LOL 😉
Well, looks like they are weighing the supply and demand and are being more cautious with their money. They prefered to have a shortage of launch models than have warehouses full of the consoles nobody wants to buy.
Think it will work fine for Sony.
i have a tip from an employee that walmart issued a memo that starting today stores will be taking preorders similar to their lay a way program… pay it off and pick it up on launch night… of course also didnt say how many or how long they will take pre orders and their website only has a bundle available for pre order …..just thought id spread the word…..
Hey I read your story and its funny that I also live in japan and i got my hands on a relase day edition of the ps4 from amazon. Last month I changed my visa info coz I renewed my card and after confirming the info it automatically cancelled my order without even asking anything!!!! I contacted amazon many times and all of them said “just make a new order!!!!” Not understanding that its impossible to do so at the moment!!! And after a couple of messages amazon decided not to reply my messages at all><
I hope Japan relases it before the US so I can take my revenge!!!
I just received an email from Amazon, cancelling my pre-order made on JUNE 18 for my PS4 with the excuse “It cannot be shipped outside the US”.
XBOX One preorders are available for international shipping…. and PS4 ones arent…. Strange right?
ps4 still available for preorder at source.ca…. Now thats strange..
also ps4 still available at sams club
