why do you have to pay twice for netflix and hulu plus with xbox. it maks no sense

    • Chezni says:

Don’t buy it. These paywalls need to be 180’d.

      Sony produces superior electronics.

I never thought M$ would make the ps4 such a clear victor in EVERY category.

Even if you don’t like the games on Sony’s side as much, it’s hard to argue that they don’t have the better variety, and that’s what really speaks to me about the future of the console — risking new ventures to produce really neat titles like heavy rain.

      • Thrawn says:

Well I don’t think that this paywall should fall entirely but more it should be refined.
Game dvr should be free, internet explorer also, skype also free, but netflix hulu… they should fall under gold but only pay once. I mean, if you have gold you are already free to use all those services without any extra charge. Paying for multiplayer SUCKS big time but if it helps keeping servers online even for old games, well I would do it.

  2. ForsakenWulf says:

Simple Fact is that xBox ( In my opinion ) blows.
Here are some OPINIONS of mine.
1st : Controller feels weird to me personally.

2nd : PS(1-4) Has always been FREE online play. You never pay. With the PS4 the only thing that changes is that for SOME games u will have to pay. NOT ALL. IT all depends on the developers.. Here is the source of this information : http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/13/4424908/dc-universe-online-planetside-2-ps4-playstation-plus-not-required

    http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/13/ps4-publishers-decide-if-free-to-play-multiplayer-requires-ps-plus/

3rd : xBox one is $100 MORE, Has made like…4-5 180 turns about their console in terms of DRM,Kinect always on etc.
So if they do that, it shows that it was *** and a bad idea. What if AFTER everyone buys their xBox one… maybe a couple months later they change it back? It just shows that it was *** to begin with, and showed that if they didnt remove it they would have NO SALES at all. People would line up for the PS4 instead. Even a well known PS/Xbox Youtuber said that. Now he says he will consider the xBox one since the 180s

4th : I Simply find that the PS4 has better hardware. Alot more exclusive content including thier Indie games And the DESIGN is GREAT. A New Controller. Sexy new look. The Xbox has been the same. Look at the Xbox, Xbox 360 and The Xbox one. They all look pretty much the same. PS(1-4) has had new looks 24/7. The PS3s look wasnt that revolutionary but it was still something different.

5th : Sony. Well they do screw over thier people sometime ( * COUGH * Psvita/PSP Firmware updates that patch exploits and stuff of that nature * COUGH * )
Damn. That was one hard cough. lol

I could add more… but i dont want to spam etc.
NOTE : THIS IS ALL MY OPINION. I AM INDEED A SONY PERSON.
Never Liked microsoft and xbox that much, but i keep an open mind since iv owned a xBox360 and didnt like it compared to the PS4. I dont want to seem like a Sony Fanboy. But i simply Prefer Playstation over xBox

    • afehst says:

your damn right, microsoft, and xbox does really suck

    • Leires says:

For what it’s worth, hardware doesn’t really mean much of anything. It’s pointless numbers fanboys use to bash one another with despite having no idea what they mean or do. It doesn’t take a 6-way SLI of titans, 4 12-core processors and 200TB of ram to make a good game. In fact, having limited specs can actually show how well a system can be pushed. Go look up Xenoblade Chronicles and tell me how the -heck- something is so beautiful with those specs. I’ll tell you how, the developers make the games, not the hardware. Hardware lets certain devs have more leeway, but it doesn’t mean at -all- that games will be better. It’s a matter of personal opinion and developer dedication if a game is a crapout or if it’s a gem.

One thing that’s nice about the PS3/4 you didn’t mention is game sharing..Not sure if it passes on to the PS4, but the PS3, for a looong time, anything you bought digitally was sharable with -5- people. That means essentially if you bought a map pack for a game, you’d be saving your friends a -ton- of money, unlike xbox which requires all of them to buy it individually. They dropped it down to 2 users, but even then it’s still buy one get one free for 60$ games, which is an incredible deal.

      • titegtnodI says:

        I love Xenoblade Chronicles … <3

      • ForsakenWulf says:

Well id really hope that the sharing is brought back.
Me and my friend plan to buy a PS4 and Trust me if this happens we will both be like so happy.

Another thing is the sharing buttion on the ps4. I forgot to add that in.
I think its a GREAT addition and can do so much ^_^!
According to how long it allows you to record gameplay, it may even be used for Youtubers ( hopefully it records 10mins + of gameplay atleast )

      • DrDOA says:

That’s actually against the Terms of Use now. The same thing is possible with the Xbox by license transfer. But it’s also against the Terms of Use

      • UE says:

Hardware will matter if they can get 60fps on one console and 40 (meaning 30) on the other.

Also in this case more than last generation it means more detailed physics effects and whatnot.

The other big hardware issue that people keep ignoring is that Microsoft have said “no you cannot change our hard drive ever, 500gb is enough” and sony have kept to their “eh swap it out whenever you want, with whatever you want aslong as it fits”

        • Thrawn says:

That issue with hard drives XD well Micro$oft knows how to milk ppl. 😉
They will bring out some kind of external xbox one ONLY drive, thats a given.

    • zombie says:

Truthfully consoles don’t bring much to the table. It’s the game developers that makes or break the system. It’s just another way of saying, hey buy our hardware and you get this and that features along with it. If you really want good hardware might as well go for a computer changeable hardware’s and easy to upgrade. Don’t give me the console hardware is better then computers either because computer hardware changes every year and with each year they get more powerful.

I’m no true xbox or ps fan matter of fact I owned both products. It truly comes down to what games you prefer and what you are willing to pay to get certain feature.

Take a look at the wii it’s dying because it’s not really producing great games or great hardware. They’re just slowly dying.

    • Minimur12 says:

Where you said only some games are outside the PS Plus paywall, that is F2P games only, so any paid games that has multiplayer, will be behind the PS+ paywall ;P

  3. The Kick says:

Who’s going to stop them? These companies manage to get more out of us every year, every product. And the fact that these products are discussed so much, evidences that this generation will be no different.

  4. Jdubs says:

I will get one in a year or two when they are half the price and come bundled with games. But for now my ps4 is half payed off and this article justifies my purchase. Thanks Minimur. 🙂

  5. EJ says:

Not getting anything out of me again, there’s easier ways to get this stuff.

  6. Jonathan Huebert says:

Internet Explorer for your TV? That shouldn’t even count as a good thing lol XD

    • GuitaristMatt says:

I had to laugh at your comment Tingle!

However, To pleaseclap *clap* To be honest I do love the Xbox Controller over the PS3’s, But I myself, I have always been a PlayStation person, Never Micro$oft person *I use Ubuntu not Windows 😛 heh heh* The PS Vita has, what?, 120 games? (Last time I checked on PSN which was about…3 days ago) In my opinion the PS Vita was a distraction for hackers/modders to focus on that rather than the PS3. I used to consider getting an Xbox 360, But because Micro$oft (Funny how Google Chrome doesn’t detect this as a misspell) rushed their console out to be first on the shelves, and instead of fixing RRoD Errors the put red lights indicating there was an error…Fail… Not just that, But a Side-By-Side Comparison between the Xbox 360 SLIM and PS3 Slim, Shows that the in game textures on PS3 are better (Could be by the fact PS3 has Blu-Ray and Xbox with dvd-r) And Xbox 360 textures are as blurry as a PS2’s textures.

    • Dmaskell92 says:

Many bash Windows 8, but I would never go back to 7. Windows 8 is like throwing a SSD in your PC, when comparing W7 boot times. Also, Vista was a failure yes, but so many of you are stuck in your ways. Man this OS has a new start menu, that makes it a mistake… I like windows 8, and it’s not comparable to Vista.

      • pleaseclap says:

I know i have an HP TouchSmart and still have not made my way to bestbuy to pick up windows 8

      • silkyskeeter says:

I agree, Windows 8 is awesome, but unfortunately I never had a problem with 7, where as Windows 8 isnt compatible to a few of my programs I use everyday and it cant be dual booted to boot any other OS and 8. So I uninstalled it. Which sucks because it would be awesome to have on my convertible tablet pc.

    • UE says:

They are trying to remove their need for dedicated server costs with cloud functions, this will create less stable servers… they will work, but don’t expect things to be QUITE as reliable. (say 95% rather than 99.9% sort of difference with various latency differences)

Hmmm just gotta wonder why so many people have use the new oddly *** reminiscent PS4 controller have come around and said that it is the best feeling controller out there. I mean even people who bagged on it have changed their opinion after trying both and then going back to the ps4 controller.
      We shall see.

Security isn’t exactly better, atleast not in any way that people can directly tell. Sure sony had the whole credit card thing going on but that can happen to any company really.
Microsoft has NEVER been known for their security.

    “Unrivaled multiplayer gaming* ”
Note the asterisk. Never a good thing.

    • Minimur12 says:

I didn’t notice that, here’s what the asterisk points to:

      *Cross platform multiplayer not supported

  9. Enrike says:

LOL NFL the most useless thing ever.. I,m going to get a Ps4

  10. PlaGeRaN says:

Hopefully you guys can find a way for Chrome or any other browser.

Seriously I E? it thee most useless browser ever made, irrespective of their version number.

  11. bruno says:

Why, tell me why we are talking about microsft consoles on the blog who was made for discussion psp AND psvita hacks and homebrew? Im think here. We need found a way to creater our psimg files and/or downgrade our consoles…. sometimes we want to get connect to psn and others we just need play a snes game. Why sony force us to update to login in psn. If i wont updrage and buy a game or play my owned game, why i cannt get login??? Sorry for my stupid english…

  12. compccs says:

The paywall as people are calling it sure seems alot taller at Microsoft… why not just make an even cheaper box …raise the cost of gold and just lease the systems out coz it seems like they want to charge you for everything except turning it on…at least using a button … for now. …

As for Sony I wasn’t really surprised to see them force plus for multiplayer.. but I’m hoping that’s where it stops… bad enough thinks work funny when the psn goes down like Netflix may or may not open stuff like that…. but I think if they remove the psn authentication for apps and keep the paywall to a minimum they should be fine….

And Amazon don’t mess up my preorder or I swear to cow!

    • Gamr13 says:

PS Plus is cheaper if you think about it, Compared to Micro$soft! You get FREE games on it every month (I’m lead to believe) And good price cuts too! It truly is something good!

    • silkyskeeter says:

Well it already sucks that you have to have a separate account to access another account from another company. Or that you have to subscribe to a service JUST to use HARDWARE. It’s getting rather ridiculous. When one buys HARDWARE, one expects to not be locked to some service JUST to use that HARDWARE. But that has became a common practice now. Could you imagine if ALL hardware starts doing that. Say you buy a car and in order for the car to start you have to join a service. Or microwave, stove, tv, …ect. Its stupid, just another way that hardware developers like Sony/Microsoft/ect can dictate how you use the hardware that you paid for (and, unlike software, that you own out-right). I can understand when they do that with software (to a point) but to do that with hardware is just wrong. If I want to reverse engineer my hardware to, for example, run Windows I should be able to do so because I paid to OWN the hardware. Same can be said for games. If I wanna play SNES games on my super over powered Ps4 or Xbox One, I should be able to. Game systems should be just like computers (because that’s all they are anyway).

  13. Acid_Snake says:

My opinion on the xbox franchise:
    – Original Xbox: not a bad console at all and I’d like to buy, but the huge size and the fact that most good games (Halo, Fable, etc) are also on PC. This console pretty much shows that Microsoft was new to the console market. It still had good stuff, like the built-in HDD (I hate that you can’t easily change it) and a great media center (outdated by today standards, but pretty good back in the day).
    – Xbox 360: rushed out too much. The console seems like it was launched on its beta stage. This is something microsoft always does, they sell a beta product as if it was final, and its a reason why I hate microsoft as a whole.
    – Xbox One: after all the changes done to the console it now looks a lot more decent. I still don’t like its bulky design and the 500€ mark, but doesn’t change the fat that it will have its market share and will be a tough competitor. I don’t see it as the winning console for next gen though.

All in all, I’m not too fond of Microsoft products, specially windows, but I don’t want to see the Xbox go out of the console market as it provides a little competition. Had not the 360 given a fair fight to the PS3 then Sony wouldn’t have bother to make the PS4 what it is now. So no matter which side you choose (Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony), be glad that there is competition, which makes all sides fight to make the most appealing console, and in the end this is favorable to the users.

  14. dan says:

cuz skype browser and such features give us something in common; online features, so they want you to pay online services cuz it will proof that they still earn some money for their online service as xbox live and give you support in case, sony give you onlind for free but its almost the same if you can compare their customer service…

  15. jlo138 says:

    You pay for Electricity.
    You pay for WiFi Internet.
    You pay for Netflix.
    You pay for XBox1.
    You pay for Gold Subscription.
Now how much does Netflix cost running on your XBox1?

  16. Scottbaylo says:

I have been a hardcore nintendo supporter for about 25 years of my life, then they started sc*** up their games. I’ve had all 3 consoles this gen, Xbox 360 was probably the most played.

It amazes me how MS has turned me off to the point that there is NO F-ING WAY I’ll be buying XB1, no matter how many things they change back to normal.

They’ve shown their greedy hand, they’ve destroyed any goodwill they’ve built up for like 12 years.
    It’s quite an accomplishment actually!

    • Thrawn says:

It is called ACHIEVMENT on Microsoft consoles, not accomplishment 😉
And it would be like this: Playing with customers, listen to their opinions, make the complete opposite, make a total f#ckup of a presentation, make 180° turns, CONGRATS, you achieved ANGRY CUSTOMERS. 😉

  17. Anthony Essaye says:

This blog would be a lot more fun if only wololo would make the posts just like the old days pure psp and psvita news.. not bias opinion from mimurfuck12

  18. juan says:

can someone tell me if we have to pay a membership to play multiplayer online on ps4…. please!!!

    • silkyskeeter says:

Google is you friend…. But YES you have to pay a premium service to play games online, on Ps4. The old practices wont be carried over to the nextgen. But what I really wonder now is if it will change Psn, across the board. Like, will online multiplayer start NOT being free for the other consoles (Ps3, PsVita, Psp)? Or will those stay the same and it will only be for Ps4 games? And, with this across the board paying of online services, will we finally be done with having to pay for an online pass?

  19. Guardian says:

COME ON GUYS, YOU GET INTERNET EXPLORER IF YOU PAY, WHY WOULD ANYONE WASTE THE CHANCE TO GET SUCH AN AMAZING WEB BROWSER?…

For the record, I am being sarcastic, if I could I would put Firefox on that console, however I won’t be buying it anyway.

  20. Don’t forget that Microsoft will add a free NSA backdoor just like in Skype(while they said they would never do such a thing).

  21. Randy Steele says:

Why would people need all the other ***? It’s a game console.

  22. DrDOA says:

People do realize that the PS4 also made 180s during development. When they actually announced everything to the general public, things were already 180 so they wouldn’t have to do it in the future. Also, the extra $100 is the Kinect. And since a variety of the Xbox One’s features already uses the Kinect, it can’t be reversed. How did people not notice the Kinect was the extra 100 -__-

    • Acid_Snake says:

for the record, most kinect games on the 360 are ***, that’s why people are not so pleased with kinect being mandatory

    • UE says:

??? Like what 180’s? I read people posting “they did this” and keep directing them to stuff from january and even last year which proves it wasn’t true.

The playstation eye was considered to come with the console but decided that it would be a bad move, this was done before the xbone announcement of necessity and given that it is $60 more there is no reason the ps4 with it couldn’t have sold for $450.

  23. RegNerd says:

Buying a video game like that to be spied by US Government. That make no sense at all.

  24. Mat says:

MS locking your ability to use independent internet apps behind a paywall. I bet they wish they could do the same thing with PC’s, I hope Apple continues to crush them.

  25. Anthony says:

im getting the one and its going to be great

  26. man_of_power05 says:

confirmed: the xbone doesn’t have any new features. xbox live is getting the new features and they just happen to work on xbone

  27. rubnvdub says:

If you cant afford a measly $9 a month then dont buy a $500 console? People feel entitled to too much these days and want everything for free… Its an online network that services millions that is provided 24/7 if you dont like it then dont pay for it, or buy the ps4 and hope a group of hackers doesnt shut the playstation network down for a month again.

ill pay my $9 a month for the warm fuzzy.
its not like the $9 hurts my pockets or the service is bad enough to make me question why pay for live…

as i said before bunch of people just feel like they are entitled to everything.

    • UE says:

I think the issue is more for people who don’t want to pay that on top of everything else in life.

For 1 it is more than $9 a month here in aus, for 2 paying for it just so I can access youtube on a console which will be secondary for me is just stupid.
The services aren’t costing microsoft anything nor are they even tied to microsoft’s servers.

An extra $9 a month is equal to an extra game every 4-5 months or even an extra console or a graphics card upgrade for the pc in 3 years + and if you do not use microsoft’s features and online services that they provide this is an issue.

I mean *** why not give me $9 a month, I mean I am not technically giving you anything but hey… if I had some way of disabling access to your browsing and content viewing options on all electronic devices why not right?
I can give you my paypal and we can set it up now.

  28. Chuckthetekkie says:

The only thing I use Gold for are the Gold discounts and Netflix and the occasional multiplayer. Other than that, Gold is useless and way overpriced. It wasn’t so bad with the Gold Family plan, but now that they scrapped it, Gold is overpriced.

Netflix on the computer is way better than it is on the Xbox 360. I find Netflix on the Xbox 360 very clunky with a horrible control scheme. A simple thing like skipping 30 seconds at a time sometimes goes to the next TV episode on the 360.

With the 360 Internet Explorer requiring Gold, I can’t use Xbox LIVE when I go on vacation as the resorts I stay at use AT&T Wi-Fi and I have to enter a password on a web-page which I can’t do on the 360 since I have to sign into Gold which can’t be done.

I understan that the Xbox One sucks, but a lot of people are saying that it’s “too expensive” yet when the PS3 came out it was $700, but you guys still paid for that. Also, I think that most people prefer Xbox over PS3 because more people play it, it has party chat, and it is more reliable, as Xbox Live is rarely ever down

  31. soldier says:

Xbox One sucks, overpriced hardware and to the comment above me, the ps3 was overpriced when it first came out because pc hardware was cheaper and you could get a better pc for less than a ps3. Of course you had to buy the parts separate but it was still cheaper and better than ps3.

  32. enzospartan says:

Neither console is a launch sell for me. Especially when my PC is much more powerful than both. Between the two though, I’m still leaning on Xbox One for superior online services and new Kinect. I will never forgive Sony for the PS3 3.21 firmware update.

  33. StanSMith says:

$ony have seen the way M$ work with Gold and they are copying. I suggest NOBODY get PS+ and make it FAIL as thats the only way we will keep the PS3/PS4 free like it always was.

The more people that get PS+ the more $ony will put things into the paid catagory. They did it with online gaming, that was the reason why people loved the PS3 as it was free to play online, no longer as you all got PS+ so you only have yourself to blame for $ony moving to a pay to play online system.
They will add more pay features which will mean Xbox Live Gold and PS+ are the same now. Both suck as you have to pay TWICE for the game to play it.
