All PS4 Games Required To Support Remote Play
Back when the PlayStation 4 was announced, Shuhei Yoshida said he’d like all first, and third party studios to consider Vita remote play as a standard feature, for the majority of PS4 games.
Talking to Eurogamer, a PS4 developer has said that Sony is making make their game compatible with remote play, unless it uses the camera.
At the moment, Vita/PS3 remote play isn’t what most people hoped for, you’d expect to be able to play the games, go on the store, etc, but at the moment you can watch videos, play music, and…. delete games?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good feature, but it just hasn’t got the amount of support it wanted (well, and needed) But hopefully, this will all change if all PS4 games support remote play, apart from games that use the camera, of course. (unless you want to play Just Dance on the train into work…. and look like a tit )

Hopefully, this news will inspire people to get a PS Vita. as Wololo stated, the PSP sold more in 1 month than the PS Vita did in a year. The Vita is getting a steady release of games for it over the weeks, but not AAA games, which is what is needed. I mean, in the weekly roundup I would love to tell you all about a new Assassins Creed, Uncharted, heck, I’d even love a new Call Of Duty (NOT made by nihilistic software, who made Resistance Burning Skies and CoD)
It’s not surprising that games that use the PS4 Eye are exempt. Yeah, the Vita has its own cameras, but are they anywhere near as good as what the PS4 Eye camera will be? Along with its stereoscopic feature.
Following this report, Yoshida has replied to a tweet confirming this news, which honestly brought a smile to my face. Here it is:
@mrdawe Yes, it’s true unless the game requires specific hardware like the camera. It will be great to play PS4 games on PS Vita.
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) May 29, 2013
The PS4 website was updated to say this, but as a feature and not mandatory for all games.
I couldn’t wait, there’s been a new ‘conversations with creators’ video, of course I’ll mention it in the weekly roundup, but here it is!
My question is, not being a tech-head, how hard is it to implement remote play in such a way?

Awesome!!!
Cooooooool!!
destiny on my vita?!! sweeeet…
don’t care, hey Sony instead of hyping up the PS4 why don’t you do something about the Vita you corporate bastards? Like lower the price of the memory cards, provide an microSD adapter, lower an 8gb memory card bundle, you know those features existed on the PSP.
Oh I forgot it was the hackers who provided an microSD adapter for the PSP, it was the hackers who made the PSP significantly cheaper for the games and accessories. The hackers certainly made PSP games cheaper, but I’m not in favor of piracy, but Sony can learn from Nintendo. You can any memory card on the 3DS, it’s fully backwards compatible with the DS, and you can easily use r4i carts. But the actual 3DS games have yet to be hacked.
what are you going on about?
wololo doesnt really care about 3ds incase you hadn’t noticed.
And yes hackers provided a micro sd adapter – which might make you think sony didnt want this to happen, because it made piracy easier once you could use regular micro sd cards. Which is the point of the proprietary card.
Obviously sony want to help pirates by making piracy really easy. ***.
This website is about hacking the psp/ps vita and making homebrew it is not about piracy you *** idiot.
@Ronald, if there is a hack that makes it easier to play pirated games, and then you come to this site and are against piracy, wouldn’t that make you a hypocrite? What are the homebrews for the PSP and Vita used for? To play legitimate PSP games?
I’m pretty sure that MS Pro Duo Adapter was introduced by SanDisk or Kingston, not by hackers, all hacks were using that adapter.
>you really are a hypocrite and a ***, you have the nerve to complain about piracy on a site that talks about hacking the Vita.
Not everyone use hacks for piracy, most people care more about homebrew. And yeah, in case of Vita (unlike PSP, which used MS Pro Duo just because Sony manufacturig it) proprietary cards are one of the parts of anti-piracy protection. So microSD adapter won’t happen (also there is no place for it). And yeah, memory card prices are outrageous, but it’s just stating the obvious.
>and why did they make the Vita so restrictive with CMA, mandatory kernel updates, etc? But let me guess you think piracy is the root of all evil, and any policy done by Sony (such as the proprietary memory cards) is for the benefit of the consumer?
Benefit of Sony, not consumer. And yeah, piracy is the reason.
> that Nintendo doesn’t restrict what memory card you can use, and 3DS games have yet to be pirated.
First – they would, if they could. That’s why they are updating software, trying to lock out flascarts. Also google Gateway – they might have hacked it already.
Thats not very nice! 🙁
I have a 32gb but I got it for Christmas, I’m loving the freedom you have when you get one 🙂
Hacking and pirate don’t go hand in hand remember, this website does not condone piracy 🙂 sure. One isn’t possible without the other but hacking doesn’t mean piracy. To my memory, when the ps3 was first hacked by geohotz you couldn’t run pirated games, which is what I’m trying to get at 😀
Regarding the R4 cards, don’t hold me against it but as far as I know the 3ds uses the same security for DSi ’emulation’ is why it works on 3Ds. It was obviously updated for the 3ds itself however.
Like I said, don’t hold me against it. I may be wrong.
The moment you mentioned him/her being a hypocrite and a ***, you lost all credibility you’ve had from my viewpoint and I didn’t even bother reading the second paragraph.
Talking on a hacking site does not directly imply agreement with the console being hacked. I frequent this site and I am against the Vita being fully hacked – the reason is plain and simple – I want games to actually come to the Vita.
I’m on your side, it’s much to soon for the vita to be fully hacked, there is only a very small library of games available.
If “we” (as for the whole community) would hack it now, it would scare the devs away.
So… wait till it has an adequat library and established itself on the market.
If that never happens and sony drops the vita, hack it to heck and back.
As soon as you called him a hypocrite and *** for complaining about piracy on a site that talks about hacking the Vita, you went full *** and crashed. No one gives two *** about the 3DS here. Yes it’s in impressive handheld and has great games and less restrictions, but that is because Nintendo fanboys will buy the games they want instead of using a flashcart so Nintendo makes money either way. Say the Vita was hacked fully, it would mean Sony and developers lose money for almost every single game out there except multiplayer and those few decent people who pay for games. I’m not saying I’ve never pirated before but I do it for things like games that aren’t sold anymore on consoles that are ancient. Sony is not willing to lose billions on piracy, which is why it has restrictions. Yeah, memory card prices are way too high, it’s ridiculous if you buy a Vita, mem card, and game. To end, this site is for hacking for Custom Firmware to use for customizing your console which you own and for making homebrew and playing it. Too many restrictions aren’t good but in an era where everything is being pirated, businesses will want to give up on improving since they aren’t making profit.
Are you here to be the next Gunblade of Wololo?
well nintendo is alright. yea psp cards came cheaper think sandisk help or sumthing but yea the sd apadters made sixty four gig cheaper for the psp. think yea moders did do sum wat mod wit the vita so yea slplicing has been done..
@skpg
A little off topic but I just read today at Wiiuhax dot com that a 3ds flashcart bas been developed and is soon to be released. I watched the video they had posted and it looks to be a flashcart that uses a micro sd card for storage. Definitely worth checking out, can’t wait for it to be released.
LOLOLOLOL!!! They took down they’re latest blog post becausethey just realized the PS4 Is going to cost the same price. It isn’t official people. The PS4 nor is the XboxOne going to cost $900. Especially the XboxOne because very few people (including me) support it. Also, when the PS3 was first listed on Amazon for preorder, it was also $900. So harharhar.
Woooohooo!
Now just secure MineCraft this year and we win the console wars for the next decade!
I’m guessing that as long as you don’t want to add any special features, implementing remote play is not that hard. The proof is in the CFWs for the PS3. It’s already showing that any game( that doesn’t need a special peripheral i.e. PS Eye, Move) can be streamed and controlled with the Vita. The question is if Sony and the developers are willing to implement it officially
I’m interested in seeing how many games may end up with PS4 games that require the Vita to play in clever, innovative, or unique ways. It’d be awesome for those who already own a Vita but an annoyance for those who don’t, lol.
The remote play bootable data is within the PARAM.SFO files of the games package file/disk content/etc. heck, I even know how to edit the PARAM.SFO in a ps3 game/homebrew pkg and make it remote play bootable. Its actually a simple task to do for developers because they basically finish the development of the game and then decide whether or not to press the button to patch the SFO file to create a Remote play bootable game. I discovered this when I used a PS1 PKG PARAM (since its bootable) and replaced a non-bootable PARAM with the PS1 PARAM and got positive boot results in remote play 🙂
Lots of games work poorly, and for official support they need to have scaling UI for the resolution difference and allow for different control schemes that work… Other than that it should be easy HENCE why it is becoming mandatory, it would be stupid not to do so.
I remember that JeoWay 😀 miss my ps3 now (YLOD’d & couldn’t be repaired”
I hope we can still do that if the Remote play doesn’t work :/ (Let’s pray that ther wont be a CMA for PS4)
*sorry for double post(thought I pressed Enter button but must’ve also pressed something else) So are ALL PS4 games not using the PS EYE “required” to have Remote play? Is it mandatory for all developers?
By Yoshida’s answer, it looks like it. And God forbid if the PS4 had a CMA
yeah, basically games like watch_dogs will support it being as it doesn’t use the camera, dancing games will not support remote play 🙂
the only thing I liked about remote play with my psp and ps3 is that I can watch movies at night from my hard drive without bothering people asleep
useless!! sony thinks that Vita is just a mere controller for PS4.
The technical hurdle is controls as far as I know. Games that use L2, R2, or L/R3 (pressing the sticks) would need some sort of touch screen implementation. Otherwise, I doubt it would be hard.
You nailed the problem on the head, though. We need AAA releases. Sony has a great stable of IPs from 1st and 3rd parties (Infamous, GoW, GT, Jak and Daxter, Twisted Metal, GTA, MGS, on and on it goes). We’ve gotten a lackluster Uncharted and an awful Resistance. All Sony has to do to make the Vita viable is stop focusing on extras like YouTube and remote play and start investing in games!
And a price drop wouldn’t hurt!
Here’s hoping that they come up with a ( hopefully cheap) accessory to provide for the Vita’s handicaps.
the ps4 is going to be out for another 7yrs+ so.. it better. BETTER! be really really good. or else. ill have to go outside to play
the king of NYNEX has exploits for the lastest PS3 OFW but wont relase it due to sony past riot with geohot. sad isnt it. i know a hand full of hackers in unlocolaized mIRC that have hacks for latest ps3 firmware. but again. wont release/ anything.
The problem of playing certain games with the smaller analog sticks on the Vita is a hurdle. The configuration of having the L3/R3 and R2/L2 buttons mapped to the rear touch screen is also not super gaming-friendly. Granted I have not played any remote play games using this setup, but it seems like it would be hard to get used to accurately and quickly using the rear touch pad.
I read a preview of the Killzone coming to the Vita and the person said that it is hard on the fingers and thumbs to play a FPS on the Vita. I do hope for some accessory or something that could be snapped on to the Vita’s thumbsticks to make them bigger or easier to use for FPS games though.
I watched this video and is amazed me, it’s a tip on ps vita thumb sticks.
You get earphone buds, medium size
Turn them inside out and cut the bit that connects to the earphone
Turn back round and you can pop it on your vita analogue sticks to use! It improves it so much it’s unreal 🙂
all ps3 still require gta I and gta II even psn does
i thought you needed to be in range/”wirelessly” with your PS3/PS4 for remoteplay to work… you can play it on the train??
WiFi works for remote play, provided both the network you are connecting to and the network your ps3 is connected to have internet access.
so you can really play on a train then?
bumers think the vita would have done real good with the ps4 camera games.. shity if the front camera on the vita was in the middle on the front and the vita had a stand and it could connet the ps four remote control could use the vita as remote play better on the go with camera game sapport think they would jus need a better front camera … think the vita will use any of that download while u play thing like the ps4 last i cheack remote play with the ps3 was slow n shity. but the wifi in the ps3 was old…
I really wish I had a use for my piece of *** vita. I mean other than playing gba games and psp games. Ahh,yeah ps4 wooo! Whatever, I just hate having a portable console I payed 300 bucks for and can’t do anything with it. I can’t wait till the Nvidia Shield comes out, that thing is actually worth my 350 dollars. Damn Sony. Money grubbing bastards.
yea the nvidia shield sounds boss that with like a steam box..
As far as I know, On ps3 it is a matter of switching a flag in the SFO.
This is what i needed to hear! But hopefully this isn’t just a gimmick and everything doesn’t move at a snails pase. If this is to be a standard feature, Sony needs to invest in it to prevent that epic fail.
***… They should help the vita out of the hole not dig it deeper for gods sake… The vita has already got no actual games, just some simple arcades where you have to lead men to urinals… Thats just sad how they want to milk peoples money by making *** dependant on other stuff and on top of that it’s not working out aswell… I strongly hope the vita gets hacked and pirated the living *** out of it…
PC remote play please
It’s called remote desktop, go get it.
