Media Molecule’s new project: Tearaway for the PS Vita
One day after I was saying the Vita is lacking good games, Sony surprised me with a huge amount of game announcements for the PS Vita. Many AAA Titles, including lots of exclusive sequels, but also completely new games that really use the device to its full potential.
Tearaway by Media Molecule for the PS Vita is one of those games.
If you don’t know Media Molecule yet, you’ve probably been living away from this planet for the past couple years. This team is behind one of the most successful games on the PS3: Little big Planet.
Tearaway apparently shares lots of design ideas with Little big Planet, but also seems to bring many more new things to the table, including a huge usage of the PS Vita’s specific controls (namely, the front and rear touch panels)

It is very difficult to describe that game, as the concept is quite different from anything I’ve seen so far. But just looking at the video, I’m feeling the same mind-blowing effect I had when I first heard about Little Big Planet. This game sounds like a day 1 purchase to me, Although the release date remains to be announced (Hmm, I smell a Christmas Vita bundle…). I’ll just leave you with the official blog’s summary, and the release trailer 🙂
Tearaway is kind of like a buddy movie. It stars iota, a messenger from a paper dimension, whose envelope head contains an urgent message to deliver… to you! It’s a very special message, and one that’s unique for each and every player. In order to read yours, you’ll need to take up the role of co-star and, together with iota, journey through the vibrant papery landscape — two buddies going on an epic adventure.
You and iota will travel afar, taking on enemies and helping those in need. You’ll conquer adversity and discover magical papery surprises. But in Tearaway, you’re holding more than just a PS Vita in your hands — you’re holding the paper world itself!
So, what do you guys think?

Basically, Little Big Planet meets Paper Mario.
First Playstation All Stars (Smash Bros), now this? But, im willing to give these a chance. All you can do is wait for Legend of Zelda
lol the sad thing is that it’s true
Playstation All Stars, Sly Cooper 4 and the new Ratchet and Clank will all be buy one version get the other.
I agree on smash bros part but not about paper mario… this just have a graphics based on paper but from what i see it’s not turn-based rpg…
Amazing. Just amazing.
Nice game!!! I like that blowing wind on the Vita screen… Epic game!!!
Looks nice, I just hope they give options/settings to disable voice activated levels and abilities I don’t wish to shout at my Vita when I’m sitting at work or travelling on public transport…I’ll look like a jackass. Other than that, game looks very fun indeed.
Looks like a bold move in a creative direction. I can see other games emulating aspects of this especially something like a customizable FF XV or *cough* Kingdom Hearts 3. I was in school when KH 1 came out and 3 I thought wasn’t going to be too far off. To make it available on a portable device would give justice for its very long awaited arrival.
This is awsome I can’t wait for this to come out and Vita just found it’s games library and it’s hitting hard. 🙂
At first i was like meeeh, but then after seeing how it uses the Vita’s full potential i’m like :O
You’re right about a day 1 purchase.
