PS3: E3 Team to release All eboots for free as well as decryption keys
E3, the team behind the E3 flasher (a tool to downgrade PS3s), announced today via ps3hax that they will release soon a series of new ps3 game eboots to run on hacked ps3s, as well as the keys for people to get the games themselves from official discs.
PS3 game blu rays are encrypted, and it is impossible to run a backup without decrypting it first (that’s a simplified explanation, but let’s go with this for now).
Some hackers have found ways to either decrypt recent games (i.e. they are in possession of the decryption keys for recent games), or get decrypted versions of the games (some rumors say these teams might have access to private forums where debug – understand non retail – versions of the games are exchanged or sold). This was the case of the people behind the True blue dongle, for example.
Until now, that secret was well protected, as the people who know these decryption keys basically decrypted the games, encrypted them again with a new key, and then sold pirated copies (indirectly, by selling people dongles that decrypt the new key). The secret is therefore worth lots of money. It seems E3 is here to completely disrupt this market, by simply providing the key for free.
This comes as a huge surprise, as they had announced a few weeks ago that they were planning to come up with their own dongle mechanism.

Did they back up given the criticism a new dongle would have received? Did they give up on creating a dongle secure enough that they wouldn’t see clones popping up all over the place? Is it because of the new CEX to DEX hack that made dongles useless? Is this just a publicity stunt? Or do they have a bigger plan in mind?
It could very well be the latter, as they stated they are building a new system for people to get access to this gift. It could be an ad-supported website, or something similar.
The E3 team emphasized that all of this will be free, and it will be ready within a couple months. Below is their full statement:

I hope it is user friendly. can it downgrade any stock ps3 with 3.60+ above fw??? sorry I’m a newbie.
it can downgrade any firmware version but it is done in hardware so you have to take your ps3 appart and install a chip.
Simply gain respect from users, so when they have a new product, it receives much better acceptance.
The E3 team said they would release a 4.xx downgrader in the next 2 weeks so thats awesome

Actually all blu ray games contents can be extracted to PS3, but EBOOTS are signed for above 3.55. E3 can decrypt with keys and re-sign the elf or you don’t even need the keys, you can dump the decrypted elf. It’s actually a dumb thing on how it can be done. Ask yourself when a game is started and eboot gets unselfed where does it go? You’ll have your answer.

1st, if they release the ‘re-signed’ EBOOTS/keys for decryption. It’s for one reason, they have a product called e3 flasher which downgrades your PS3. A big reason most updated was for new games. So now this will increase their sales because people will want to downgrade back to 3.55 down to get best of GameOS.
2nd, why would they release a software downgrade? Clearly it kill thier buisness of the flasher, their a company, they wouldn’t do that. The sales they make is everything to them.
I think they realised that releasing a new dongle now that the CEX2DEX hack is out would be pointless. Besides releasing these EBOOTs and keys for free would help in killing their biggest rival (True Blue).
Now, I remember they mentioned in a statement before that they would create a new CFW. They probably have a solution for newer PS3’s (that shipped with a firmware of 3.60 or higher), and will sell a dongle for those consoles instead.
Now, if this is how it is, I think it all makes sense.

PS: for those wondering there is a tool to check witch version you can max downgrade. just look it up (its an update file that you put on a usb key then do a “system update” and it will tell you what is the lowest version you can go).

Yes.

It has been possible for quite a long time. But the tool to do it costs half the price of a ps3, so most people don’t bother doing it. It’s less risky and not much more expensive to buy a hacked ps3.

I’m not sure if this is good news or bad news. All EBOOTs for free?!! Seriously, I think there a catch in this s***.
Warfare might have guessed right. It seems the most logical guess I’ve seen on any forum. If they release all the eboots for free, then release a drm downgrade dongle people won’t be complaining that the dongle does nothing like true blue is just drum locked to play games.
That would keep everyone happy plus if their drm/protection is good enough Sony can’t understand it then it won’t be block able. It would also keep their flasher viable as dual boot/cexdex tool.
If that same dongle could do psn access (assuming you’d need a lot of keys etc to soft downgrade 4.21) they’d get even people with 3.55 to purchase, which would mean if they ever accidently up grade or if they want to upgrade its just a click downgrade.
Pure speculation.
The 3.60 leaked keys, sure have change the E3 plans. Someone must have been very angry with E3 promises, and leak the keys on the wild (why release them first on site elotrolado, by an alias: f*ckdh – f*ck DemonHades)?
I guess we will see some more keys leaked in the future… let´s hope so!
It’s time for the uderground market disappear. I just don’t understand why people willing to pay for true blue. I would not pay a penny for any of their dongles.
