Announcing wololo.net/downloads
I’m pleased to announce the opening of a new subsection of this website, wololo.net/downloads, a database with download links to thousands of homebrews.
Some of you might have noticed the new “random homebrew” link at the top of the pages of our /talk community. If you haven’t, give it a try, it’s a fun way to discover new homebrews.
This is just getting started (let’s say it’s a beta version), and for now lots of downloads are actually linking to external sites, but I will progressively add direct links to my server (something that was, until now, done manually and sporadically in some of my blog posts)
Why yet another Homebrew database?
There are dozens of websites around here that host homebrew downloads, why creating yet another one?
Well first, this is a convenience for me as my server is hosting more and more homebrews, and without a perfect memory of the actual blog post in which I posted the link, it is difficult to find them. So I do hope it will make it easier for people reaching this site to get what’s directly available here, and for me to keep track of the homebrews I host.
Secondly, I think most of the major scene websites out there don’t care enough about the homebrews they host, and especially version numbers. It’s always very difficult to know, when you reach a download site, if you are downloading the latest version of a homebrew, or if you’re just getting a super old version, and missing on the new version, hosted on the exact same site… In order to avoid that kind of thing, I put some emphasis on version numbers for each of the homebrews. If you reach a download page on /downloads, the default behavior is to show you the latest version of the homebrew. You can of course browse older versions, but the site tries to make it clear and point you to possible newer versions.
/Downloads also allows several download links per homebrew. In the long term, this should allow us to avoid a game from being just a dead link, and have several possible links for a single game.
Ideally, I’d like /downloads to be community-driven: let people enter their own homebrews, etc… only time will tell if I can put enough efforts in this section of the website to make it easy for you guys to provide new links and homebrews.
In the meantime, you can rate each homebrew, no login is required, just click on the stars and you’re done (don’t hesitate to root for your favorite games/utilities!), and if you spot a missing homebrew, just send me a link and I’ll do my best to add it! Oh, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you spot any bugs!
go to /Downloads
This is cool!
omg !!!!guys i just got 3 free psps!!! one for me, one for my sister, and one that i can throw in a microwave and watch!!! all i had to do was use the SWAGBUCKS search engine and i gradually accumulated points!!!! click here to sign up http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/asrulezyo
YOU DONT NEED CREDIT CARD INFORMATION OR ANYTHING!!!!! BTW IM ONLY 12 YEARS OLF, AND THEY ACCEPTED MY ORDER!!! im sooooooooo happyyyyyyyy
thats awesome, but can u add snapshots/preview for homebrews.
Wow, just took a look. This is great! Thanks!
Yeah, I saw this for some time…
But the thing is that most homebrews are old, by old I mean, kxploited old (the ones with % and __SCE__HomebrewName___)
Yes, for now there are more “old” homebrews than new ones, but it will change with time as I add more games. I still need to add all the genesis entries 😉
YAY!!!!!!
I see 😀
Oh man, this is so cool! I had been hoping for something like this here. This site is coming ever nearer to being a one stop solution for psp homebrewers. You rock Wololo! I had a couple thoughts on possible improvements to the downloads if you are open to them.
Maybe a comment section on a per-homebrew page, or just a “report problem” link to avoid never ending “dead link” comments.
Maybe a user editable description or user notes in addition to the official description. Just some thoughts, take em or leave em. Also, the psp aircrack download redirects to wololo.net after sign in. I might just be *** though… Thanks for all your hard work Wololo!!!
Thanks for the suggestions, that’s definitely the kind of stuff I want to see on that site, I’ll do my best to add more user interaction.
I’ll have a look for the aircrack link problem. Give it a try with another browser too, most download sites are *** about your referer/cookies/javascript support
well it could have been twice better when HBL was popular…
i mean nowdays people dont really play homebrews…
more like PSX-PSP games… i myself really liked the Gsquare…
When HBL was popular… I was working on HBL! So I didn’t have time to spend on building such a website 🙂
The only thing i play is homebrew, because i find it very intresting how a small group off people make such impressive games.
Extremely cool!
You list SMSPlus 1.2 when the program is up to 1.31….
Thanks, I’ll update this app
Something is not right, for instance, each version of Wagic has its own post, that’s not efficient. I think a better way is each homebrew in a post, and all the versions inside. That would result to better searchs… and also categories!
The version mechanism is intentional, and is what makes /downloads different from others. Most of the time when you look for a homebrew, you wantonly the latest version. /Downloads makes sure that it is possible to see older versions, but that the easiest is to see the most recent version.
Categories: definitely want to add that!
I’d be willing to upload anything you want on my mediafire account if you need me to. You just have to provide a working link to each program so I can host them.
I’ve noticed a lot of dead links (I’ve checked out every single link [besides the really old ones that won’t work on a 3k])
Just let me know in a PM on /talk.
I’ve got a few (that I could remember) ready to upload for you.
thanks. If you can send me links by email I will add them.
If you can also send me a list of homebrews that you spotted with dead links, I’ll do my best to fix those.
Long term I want it to be as simple as a “this link doesn’t work” button on the site, but I’m not there yet
EHEH YAY HOMEBREWS FTW =D
thnx wololo
*worships a statue of wololo at a computer hacking the psp*
YEAH!! no searching for hours on this site anymore to get my homebrew 🙂
plz update deadalus to 722

Why don’t you just upload everything to MediaFire?! It’s extremely fast & free, and unlike other hosting services, it doesn’t make the user wait for the download link to appear and it’s unlimited.. And will cost you nothing, but if you upload it on your server you might get stuck with the overload thing again, and you don’t want that to happen.. remember what happened to your server when TN HEN was first released on PSPGen?! Trust me, you’ll need to buy a new server if you’re planning to host those files on it, and you don’t have to..
(btw, try HulkShare as well)
orrrrr.. I found a Syrian Arabic hosting server that gives you direct links to your uploaded files.. I’ll PM you its link on the /talk forum..
Take a look at the comment above mine, btw..
That’s a good point. I don’t plan to host all homebrews ever. Rather, when I host a homebrew on my site (such as lots of the psp genesis ones), I’d like it to be easier to find them back.
But yeah, mediafire is also a good option. Each download page allows as many links as I want, so that’s definitely a possibility
Sendspace would be good also for those who use their psp to browse for hombrews
Haven’t you tried hosting files on MediaFire before?! It has been updated few months ago, it’s now very cool & easy-to-use (I know you’re not a noob, but I mean it doesn’t waste your time) you can manage your files easily and rapidly!
Take a look at this video: http://www.mediafire.com/tour.php it’s not a normal hosting service!
Hey, do the random homebrew thing change with a new page or a refresh? Cuz, mine doesn’t!
The random homebrew changes every hour
That means the same homebrew is displayed to everyone? Anyway I loved it…Thanx:)
Yup, same homebrew is displayed to everyone, and that changes every hour.
Maybe you could also put up a ps2dev-like repo dedicated for the PSP?
You mean with the source code for a bunch of open source projects? Some kind of mirror? Or a list of links pointing to their svns ?
Yeah, or maybe atleast the toolchain+sdk. I mean look at these:
