Genesis competition: votes begin!
In case you haven’t noticed, Npt and myself were organizing the biggest PSP Homebrew competition of all times this year. Contestants had 4 month to prepare and update their homebrew games and utilities.
The result is beyond our dreams: 111 entries made it to this contest (as a comparison, Wikipedia lists 674 official games for the PSP in 6 years of existence). Some of those entries are simply awesome, and I already have a few favorites, but I won’t list them now as I haven’t fully tested all homebrews yet, and I don’t want to be biased.
The PSP Genesis competition has several prizes, but, to refresh your memory, myself and 3 other judges (Hellcat, Lampworker, and Davee) will be now reviewing all the entries. Our 3 favorites will get respectively 1900$, 750$, and 400$. But this doesn’t stop here. My personal favorite open source entry will get 100$, and an audience vote on /talk will give 100$ to the best homebrew chosen by our community. You can vote now.
Some of the sponsors will also have audience votes on their own forums, I will post the links as soon as I have them.
The Genesis competition is sponsored by Npt, wololo.net, psp-hacks.com, pspgen.com, exophase.com, daxhordes.org, xtreamlua.com, pspslimhacks.com, pspcustomfirmware.com, and gamegaz.jp. Each one of these websites contributes either to the main prizes, or to a parallel prize with a vote on their own site. Many thanks to them for contributing to the biggest PSP homebrew competition ever!
With the unexpected amount of entries, I want to apologize in advance for a few things: first, it will take longer than expected for us to reach a decision: we expect to give the names of winners around the end of the month. Second, there are way more than 3 entries that deserve to be in the top 3 in my opinion. I personally believe it was not such a great idea to concentrate most prizes for so few winners, but that was also part of the concept… This is something I will discuss with Npt, maybe for future competitions, who knows 🙂
Now move your lazy fingers and go vote for your favorite homebrew on /talk for the audience prize!
PS: if you’re a sponsor and didn’t receive my email entitled “PSP Genesis sponsors: voting has begun!”, please contact me asap 🙂
Just as I think: no easy task in voting. Clearly there are many more homebrews that deserve a prize, some of them are simply amazing. Maybe could be a good idea to group those homebrews in “games”, “plugins”, “applications” or something similar, as well as “Best original homebrew made for the compo”, “Best update”, “Best open source”, etc. and give a prize accordingly.
Also, will be hard to voters to test all homebrew. I’ll try to do, but it’s impossible as there are homebrew specifically made for certain PSP models. My advice is to test all HB, giving chance to homebrew you only saw one time.
My favorites (previous to any test): PRO HEN (a giant work), Lamecraft (looks amazing), and SilverEdge (great coding), with some honorific mentions. The rest is up to judges 🙂 Good luck!
i think all equis ideas to put separate homebrews prizes in catagories is an excellent idea (but for the next comp) its not fair to change the rules once its over but its a good chance to learn from this and adapt accordingly for next time
but i think almost everyone did a great job with their homebrews and i can see there is many many many hours of work in them it is going to be very difficult to vote for just one
also i really hope there is another comp maybe not too soon though because i have only started coding about a month or two ago but i have an excellent idea for a homebrew game that i want to work on once my skills get up to par and hopefully one day some people can enjoy my creations instead of being a bystander of others great homebrews (not that im complaining =) )
great work everybody
For the next compo, of course! 😉
