I really hope we find a kernal exploit soon – the half byte loader is really awesome, and so far it does everything I want it to do. I really miss running homebrew straight from the XMB, but ill live with it. Keep up the good work HBL has went a long way, you guys have done an AWESOME job!!!

  3. MNX says:

Lol, good point wololo. But as far as I know your alowed too hack/edit Out of date or expired programs/systems witch sony said themselfs that the fat is no longer supported.

  4. cheeze6661 says:

Nice write up there Wololo. Glad someone tries to figure out the legality of the hacking scene. I mean even it were illegal to modify your iphone/psp how would such law be enforced on the millions of people who use theses modifications. I don’t have much worry about it at all. (seeing I only own a 3000 model psp running HBL, homebrew only) And as cell phones go, I use Verizon and modify my files using p2ktools and bitpim.

  7. shadyblue says:

i dont think its illegal otherwise all the people who sent there psp in to get fixed and had cfw would be behind bars…

  8. Angel929 says:

i agree with shadyblue nd that last thing wololo mentioned
it isnt hacking the psp thats illegal, but what people do after they hack it, ie. download games of the internet and hack psn

  9. Angel929 says:

wow my avatar looks like hes on shrooms or sumthin

  10. Lemunde says:

And about the others games that i bought that will never launch on PSN:

    -Brave Fencer Musashi;
    -Mad Panic Coaster;
    -Megaman X4;
    -Digimon World 3;
    -‘N many other;

Wololo if its legal to run what i bought in the PSP, please help.

  14. Abhijit says:

The question of legality will always remain in this digital world. In fact, arguments have went so far such as an organization called “questioncopyright.org” claiming in a youtube video titled “Copying is Not Theft” that copying isn’t theft. According to them, piracy ain’t theft! I’m sure most of you have seen that video.

Also, I do believe that DRMs and copy-protection technoilogy have done nothing but trouble *both* the customers who bought it and *pirates*, but troubled the customers more! Surely people who bought games like Assassin’s Creed 2 for PC understand this. I’m just rambling! 🙂

That aside, it is nice to clear up the legal issues of hacking/jailbreaking devices! VIVA LA HBL!

  15. wololo says:

@Warlike: Playing PSX games is not a matter of law, it’s a matter of “is it technically doable?”. I don’t have a kernel exploit. If you do, please share it 😉

  16. Tiago says:

Until a cfw or iso loader is working in 6.20 i keep using ur awesome thing wololo : hbl!!!

  17. Asylum says:

wow…….. thats a big slap in the face for all the companys crying about how its illegal to modify their software…….. but what i dont understand is….. if it is legal to alter “wireless telephone handsets”……. then why is sony making such a big deal? my opinion is that instead of trying to patch up every exploit…….. why dont sony be more creative, make better themes, games, and such… then maby just MABY people would not tamper with your software…. then again what do i know///// Asylum out

  18. Nickolas says:

@Asyloum you are absolutely right……… That”s what we are trying to say to Sony people: Make your consoles better so that we don’t have to tamper with them!! If they are uncapable then they should let hackers do it!!!!

  19. mamosuke says:

    Very interesting.

    Homebrew is legal.
    Running homebrew is legal,too.
We have a right to enjoy homebrew on any device that we have.
Now I have PSP. This is legal of course.
So that we have a right to enjoy homebrew(=legal) on PSP(=legal) but we have to unlock it(=means “Legal”) before doing that.
This is what I think now.

Sony always insist on “Reverse engineering of the Software is not Authorized.” in UMD BOX. “Authorized” does not mean “Legal”. Why do I have been prohibited to reverse anything about PSP?

By the way, this is kind of joke. What you say is like “Skype is running on my PC, it means my PC is a kind of phone?lol.

  20. Vandurol says:

“By the way, this is kind of joke. What you say is like “Skype is running on my PC, it means my PC is a kind of phone?lol.”

I was about to type the same thing. It seems that buying a product means renting the item for life. Companies doesn’t allow you to tamper with the product. But it is still “yours”.

Pif. I do whatever I want with my products.

  21. shadyblue says:

i kno if we baught the item we should be able to do whatever we want with it… Because its ours not sonys anymore… If i wanted to throw my psp on the street and break it sony wuldnt care cuz i already baught it… But if i wanted to make it better and fix up my psp then they dnt like that. .. When is sony going to learn the most reason why anyone likes there psps is bcuz its hacked

  22. shadyblue says:

i just realized maybe sony does kno that… And they dnt care if u have cfw its just that they can get sued if other gaming systems find out that they are allowing there games to be played on the psp, such as nintendo…

  23. Raikuden says:

Wololo, do you have any information on a so-called PSP HEN RC94? I was reading up on it and it was stated to be able to run on PSPGo. I’m only bringing this up because your name was in the ‘Read Me’ file under Credits.

    – “wololo: for the extractor”

I’d greatly appreciate it if you could clear this up :]

  24. dub king says:

yea we bought this equipment so whos to say we cant modify it? a psp is like a car once you have it you can either let mechanics keep it stable or you can improve it yourself.
also if we were to build an exact duplicate of a psp would it still be technically illegal to run homebrews and hacked stuff on it? if so thats really f**ked up

  25. Nickolas says:

@Raikuden yep I’ve hearing about that RC94 HEN a lot lately…..you can go ahed and try it if you don’t mind for thee two infected files avast found in it…;)
I just saw a youtube video with a link to a virus free file but it is locked so could please e-mail me the file I want to scan it email it at : nickolasg.21@hotmail.com

  26. Sony SOny Sony when will you ever learn its like sony is tom from tom and jerry and jerry is the homebrew community the hombrew community always wins because sony you are no match for us why wont you just leave us alone and make games

  27. npt says:

Very interesting points, wololo. Interesting read.

  28. Sony Corp. says:

thats legal, whats not legal is what u do with it.

Example: Me having all the NES titles in roms, N64 games, SNES games,
GBA games, etc. & play them in my PSP. But really nobody cares.
    well exept for Nintendo.

  29. Asylum says:

@sony corp ….. wow is this your fav web site…. as i said in another post do u have this site bookmarked?….. i ask because i am all around the net about the latest on pspHacK…… and i only see you post on wololo.net… are you intimidated by what wololo and his team are doing… and is trying suck up what what ever information you can get to make a patch…. you make me sick get a real job… if this fake sony corp. this does not aply to you///// Asylum out

    • kinglizard says:

Do you really think a multi-million dollar company would post this?

      Wow. Sony is so official.

  30. L. Vincent Poupard says:

As a former business law advisor, and current business writer, I think that I could shed some light on this.

A wireless telephone would be a device which has a primary use of connecting to phone lines or towers so that someone can have a phone conversation. Essentially, if the primary function is to speak on the phone, it is a wireless phone. If talking on the phone is secondary (such as a PSP with Skype, or a computer with Skype) this law does not apply.

From the train of thought that a device with Skype would be considered as a wireless phone, that would mean that I cannot legally modify my home computer. Neither my PSP, my PS3, nor my computer are wireless phones, so there is no decision yet where legality is concerned.

  31. wololo says:

@L. Vincent Poupard : thanks a lot for the clarification. I don’t really understand why the law applies only to phones (from a logical point of view), but I kind of feared that it was too good to be true 🙂

  32. Asylum says:

@wololo if this expoite only works for people with that exact game…. are you willing to find out a way to make it work on any game……is that even possable….. plz reply…… i want to know what specificly triggers the expoite to run off the game…… if you dont want to reply due to sony reading this post.,…. i understand/////// Asylum out

  33. Windmill says:

It’s legal to steal money from banks… as long as you have telekenesis, you are invisible and they cannot track the bill.

  34. Asylum says:

*** does that have to do with this post?…… no comment////// Asylum out

  35. FERI says:

Hi Wololo. Thanks man for awesome work. I have a really important question which I guess anybody else may also has:

“Is it possible to have a HBL which is compatible with PRX files. In other words, will we 3000 and GO owners able to play PS1 games on our PSPs at all?”

Thanks a lot for your response in advance and keep up the good work. 😉

  36. Sillyjuly says:

    Asylum go boom!!
Seriously, don’t try and act like a gangsta.

  37. Asylum says:

@sillyjuly… are you serious a gangster …. lol …. i am not one of those low lifes….. i wear clothes that fit me////// Asylum out SPIT ON SILLYJULY

  38. Lampworker says:

“technically, these PSP are wireless telephone handsets”

Hum, there was a point before Skype was offered officially. So… as that’s the case, then I’m assuming it’s possible to bring them into this field and it becomes legal. Or at least that’s the suggestion.

If that’s the case, then it follows for fats, with the homebrew furkip that also allows voip service, that it would be equally as legal for the phat psp’s.

    Legal MADNESS! 😉

  39. DaMonkeyOnCrack says:

I read it’s legal. I have a jailbroken iPod Touch and I read under Rock Your Phone that unlocking any cell phone or game device is legal. The Rock App took me to the New York Times site which is where I found this.

  40. Ishai says:

with a go cam for psp mounted on the phat, I suppose you can run skype, cant you?
that means the phat also is a handheld phone…

anyone got a used go cam for psp phat for sale by the way?
I need it tp make the psp a handheld phone so my daughter (7), can phone me (shes living with her mother)…

Great work on the psp scene by the way wololo! Thank you for sharing!
Peace a joy is sent your way from here! 🙂
