Great, thanks for the update. I will test my diffs for compiling on the Mac and if complete will submit them for inclusion for the next release.

Game is coming along awesome. I dont like the new logo or icons as much though. Especially the Japanese letters for the mana icons….

  4. wololo says:

    Thanks guys.

    @NyghtcrawleR:
Regarding the icons and the logo, I knew we would get mixed reactions, but we are trying to remove all copyrighted contents from the game, one step after the other.

I’m expecting people to come up with graphical mods though, and I’m pretty sure someone will find a way to get the old icons/logo in the new format, and have them for download somewhere.

    @Nanocore:
that’s great news ! Please contact me at wagic dot the dot homebrew at gmail dot com whenever you want, so we can work together on adding your changes !

YO! The release was great. haha.

but why would you want to remove the copyrighted contents? It is based on magic the gathering cards, so why remove them anyway?

It has improved quite a lot, but the most worth waiting for is the multiplayer. Too bad need to wait for psp-3000 to be cracked first.

I think it is currently one of the best homebrew you could find on psp 😀

  6. wololo says:

    Thanks Monkit.
Basically using copyrighted content without permission is illegal, and legal trouble could lead to the complete end of the project. Also, using 100% original content is best for Wagic’s reputation in the psp community as a homebrew.
This does not mean Wagic will become a complete different game, only that people who actually want the card pictures and all other copyrighted stuff will have to get it themselves.
I think that the thumbnails, given their size, could be considered “fair use”, which is why I didn’t remove them yet.

I haven’t started working on multiplayer yet. I’m still waiting for the hack of the psp3000, or enough donations to get a second hand psp. I still have hopes for the psp 3000 to be hacked 🙂

Is there any place in the forum or so which i can get the other images from? I think it would be nice if the big images are zipped in another file and posted in forum so that we could have a nicer wagic.

  8. NyghtcrawleR says:

I understand your idea of making it copyright free but without removing everything I dont see that ever happening. I doubt thumbnails fall under fair use. Its either all or nothing. btw, I’d rather it be all 🙂

If it were to be all removed I think you should make it easier to replace icons and such for those so inclined. It was easy to replace the card backs, but the front screen and icons, not so much because the sizes of the icons changed and the background as well. If you use the old images, it gets all screwy. Like I said, if you want to remove everything, just make it easy for people to change it on their own. You also used the adesign file format for some images which doesnt help in that cause.

Thanks for the great app though. The progression is great and by far one of the best apps to date.

You make good points. It is true that thumbnails don’t fall under fair use, and if I ever get a C&D by WotC I’ll remove every single bit of copyrighted stuff. The game still works without the thumbnails+big pictures, although it is ugly. Ultimately, the _cards.dat files could contain information for the game to automatically download cards, that’s how I plan to stay clear but still allow people to play with the card pictures.

The icons are easy to replace, it’s just a matter of photoshop skills, it’s not like the files were encrypted or something. I don’t know what the adesign file format is. I use paint dot Net and usually save the files as png with the default settings. But I’m not the only one working on the project, so I sometimes have no control on that. Especially, I did not create the new logo and icons, I suck at design 🙁

Edit: Note that the main reason for not including the big pictures is the server bandwidth.

  10. NyghtcrawleR says:

The psi file format is from adesign. I dont think photoshop supports that extension. I’ll have to look into it more but dont think it works.

As for the images, to save bandwidth the easiest thing to do is use mediafire. Its fast and you could just link it. Saves you bandwidth and makes all those guys happy.

  11. wololo says:

Ah, no, the psi files are hge particles.
you can get the editor at the following url :http://hge.relishgames.com/doc/index.html?peditor__main.html

  12. NyghtcrawleR says:

I figured out the graphics editing. I never did icons before so that was what confused me at first. It is actually easy to do so disregard my last comments about that haha.

  13. JayzenFreeze says:

*** the new one looks like *** so bland i was about to donate till i installed it and saw no background just single colored cards how do i put in real cards on the game if not this is useless to me so bland

  14. wololo says:

@JayzenFreeze: if I got 1 dollar each time somebody contacted me to tell me they would donate if … (insert whatever you want here), I could probably stop working and spend my life improving Wagic 😀
And if you want to play the real stuff, why don’t you play MTG Online, or real magic cards with a friend ?

  15. Good information. Lucky me I found your website by accident (stumbleupon).
I’ve book marked it for later!
