Half-Byte Loader (HBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PSP. It allows to play fan-made games on any PSP up to firmware 6.39. HBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications.

The Version of HBL you need to download depends on the firmware of your PSP, and is independent of the model (it works on all models, 1000, 2000, 3000, and PSP Go). Click on the firmware installed on your PSP to be redirected to the appropriate download page:

HBL is a work in progress and sometimes it might fail to load your favorite homebrew. However we believe it is harmless for your PSP and I personally test my work on several PSPs before releasing it. We are also confident that this program cannot “brick” your psp and it will not void your Sony Warranty.

Next revision hbl r100!!Still PSPKVM is encountering problems when exiting. Doesn’t exit using home button and when select+start is pressed it tries to exit but freezes on a black screen afterwards.

my pspgo stopped working with HBL r99. i keeps crashing as i hit R on patapon.
R97 often crashed at startup…
well not carshed, but navigation through the menu was stuck, d-pad didnt worked. this happened at like 4 out of 7 times! annoying!got fixed in R99, boots up perfectly

download the hbl R99 unpack it put the H.bin and hbl folder in the root like this K:\ unplug usb start patapon 2 first .no then yes. then continue wait[loading] pres X then R and your done you dont need U.S Hot shots golf for this sorry for bad english!@OM9H4X thanks. but yay r99 released why was 98 skipped though

I’m confused, it says there is no save data, so I press no? And then yes? And then load the saved game? And then when it says to continue I press R? I did that and the PSP shuts off. What am I doing wrong?

@shaun: You may not have copied the Hbl folder in the right place…..
You should copy the file and folder in the root of your PSP…..the root is the main area where all the folders like PICTURE,VIDEO,PSP,etc can be seen

stop complaining. Wololo is working very hard to get newer and better revs out. Next thanksgiving (if you ‘practice’ it), when you are asked what you are thankful for, you should say ‘I am thankful for Wololo and his hard work on hbl.’ This man is taking time out of his personal life to make psp owners happy. Don’t do this. Don’t drive the guy to insanity. I can’t say how much I appreciate what your doing. I don’t care if there is a crash on exit, or a homebrew that doesn’t work. It’s better than nothing. yes, with PSPFiler 4.4 Kernel 3.3 its possible to access the PSPs 0 and 1 flahses (“flash0:\” and “flash1:\”).
but on flash0, we only have READING permissions.
fora CFW, we would need to WRITE to flash0. but we cant.
we can WRITE to flash1, but thats (almost) useless.@fabio:

just press the left d-pad key and the R key and then u’l be on hacker mode and now u can copy any file to flash 0 and flash 1and with this u could write the files manually and then copy them to flash 0

first i said press the left key wirh R or other meaning the left arrow and the R button

After R85 NONE of my emulators have been working, I don’t know why. I have a snes and a nes emulator Snes 9x v24 and jnester. Why arent these working. I love ur work and don’t let anybody tell u otherwise.

but im still no noob!Just try it out, it dowsnt matter if youre in hacker mode or not.
try to copy / replace anything on flash0. It will fail to do so.And i said “almost” useless because with flash1 writing, you xant do anything more than:
-Switch your controls to “japanese” which means O is OK and X is BACK.
-Mod your PSP’s font, like i did.so for a CFW, flash1 access is 100% useless.
