I’m organizing a contest around VHBL with 2 ways to win. You don’t necessarily need to be a programmer, so read along.

Hey everyone, quickly showcasing the work in progress for VHBL‘s port to thecobra’s exploit. To be honest, thecobra’s really done most of the work here, and I merely tweaked it to clean up the code, before compiling and giving it a try.
On the video below, I’m playing doom (again? I should be a bit more creative…) on PS Vita firmware 1.67.
Here are the 10 most popular homebrews as voted by you in March 2012. The “VHBL effect” is clearly here, with a good share of the top homebrews this month being compatible with VHBL on the PS Vita. Enjoy!
10. Bookr (compatible PSP/Vita)
The PDF Reader for the PSP has been one of the favorite homebrews on the PSP for years, and keeps going strong. The PSP and Vita both lack PDF reading features, and this homebrew is here to fill the void on both consoles.

Christmas is really early this year, as Drakon, creator of the famous PSP homebrew Lamecraft, just posted an update of his game to make it compatible with the Vita.
Of course this requires you to run VHBL, but since we just released a new version of our homebrew loading tool, hopefully you are one of those who can enjoy it.
Check this video running the game on the Vita Screen:
Last month I gave you a list of the most popular homebrews for January (give those a try!), and this might become a regular monthly post? Today I’m giving you the best 10 homebrews for February, as voted by you guys. Keep rating homebrews and adding new ones on /Downloads!
Some people have asked me to test some homebrews on VHBL. Although I cannot test every single version of every single homebrew, I tested a few things. For now, compatibility is not impressively good, but remember the early days of HBL, when we went from 1 or 2 homebrews that worked, to hundreds of them… If the community around VHBL is as active as the one we had around HBL, I am sure compatibility will improve with time.
Anyways, here is a list of homebrews I tested, that work, or don’t:
This has been a tough week for lots of you, coming to my blog everyday to see that no new information was available about the release of VHBL. Trust me, it’s been a much tougher week for me, making sure things go according to my humble plan, coping with a few more issues than expected, and overall, taking all the insults about “being a faker” or “trying to boost my ego” without being able to say anything else than “please trust me”.
Ok, let’s reveal a few essential things here, starting with the bad news: Read the rest of this entry »
A few months ago I introduced /downloads, a homebrew database dedicated to organizing the homebrews that can be downloaded on my server, as well as external links. You can rate the downloads as well as add your own homebrews, it’s free and doesn’t even require a login.
I haven’t blogged about PSP homebrews in a while, but it’s great to see the trends of votes, and I decided it would make sense to blog about the homebrews people like, in case your PSP had been collecting dust recently and you’re looking for new stuff to try, or if you simply want to discover some hidden gems. Here are the highest rated homebrew games for the month of January 2012, in reverse order to preserve the tradition of a countdown:
This is my top 5 of the Genesis competition entries. If you’re looking for more great homebrews, please check my top 6-15 and my top 16-25, posted earlier this week. The Genesis competition was the “source” of 90% of the new homebrews created in 2011, and below are my 7 favorites. I said 5, but 3 of them are tied for number 1 in my opinion (and no, don’t expect a big surprise for these, my vote was in line with the final decision). Hear my words: if you haven’t tried each one of these homebrews at least once, you’re making a mistake.
Yesterday I started presenting my 25 favorites entries of the Genesis competition. The Genesis competition was the biggest PSP homebrew contest ever, and 90% of the new PSP homebrews for 2011 were produced as part of this contest. Yesterday I described entries 25 to 16 in my personal ranking, and today I will introduce entries 15 to 6. Although my top 5 will probably not contain much surprises, entries 6 to 15 are really the homebrews that were underrated this year: good enough to be great games or applications, but not gigantic enough to beat the top 5. The kind of homebrews that would have won the first place in any other competition. The genesis competition received 111 entries (we actually received more than that, “only” 111 entries were accepted), so we’re talking of the top 10% here.
