Vita out in one month, are you getting one?

Sooo.. the PS Vita has been in beta test for a few months here in Japan, Sony has used the opportunity to fix some glitches with 3 firmware updates so far (1.50, 1.51 and 1.52), and it’s coming out in less than a month in the US and Europe. Are you getting one?

The Vita is without doubt the most promising mobile gaming device for 2012, and as usual, the game exclusives will probably be where the real fight is, in the war against smartphones and the 3DS. The Vita lineup for Japan wasn’t really exciting. I personally got Ridge Racer which is pure crap (more on that in another blog article, one of these days), but I know other people who got other games and weren’t impressed. Basically, it seems once you’re done with Uncharted, there’s nothing really standing out.

But the EU/US lineup seems to be more promising, with some games taking advantage of the console’s specific controls (in addition to Uncharted, which was already at JP launch): Little Deviants, Mod Nation Racers,…

Will that be enough to convince you? Or will you be stopped by Sony potentially spying on you, or by the price of the typical “everything is proprietary” Sony new hardware? For those of you who will get the Vita, it is still my plan to release HBL for it, assuming it doesn’t get patched by then.

I think the PSP is better for now..Vita’s features doesn’t look much exciting and lacking good games too.
Too early to buy one now. I’d get a Vita after a year, mainly when they drops the price.

I dont know to be honest…

Im comparing the Vita and the 3DS…

in terms of hardware… Vita easily outclasses the 3DS
however it comes with the nasty $ONY blockade
(I couldn’t care less for piracy, but Id like to see some homebrews developed that use the Vita in ways not yet imagined so far, its a fair enough excuse for my mini-rant)

in terms of Games… Id say the 3DS is more promising as its catalouge so far does not look dissapointing…
(and the news of a SSB for 3DS make it appealing to me)

so im stuck in a limbo of sorts… should I get a 3DS
or brace myself… get a Vita and hope for the best?

Best mobile gaming device ? That is your opinion. No I won’t cause of the price and the remarkable ignorance for stuff we asked by sony.

Everything proprietary is the key, this aint to stop piracy, this is just greed. I still think Vita is a shamefull fail. Huge power, but nothing to do with it.

That’s interesting, what would you consider to be a better Mobile Gaming Device now, and for what reasons?

      Reply

      1. svenn’s avatar

Well this depends what your value’s for a gaming device is. If its pure power, laptop is stronger, if you value games, I think 3DS has a larger collection. If you value open-source/free-development I’d say android (phones).

If you want the best gfx on a screen psp VITA would be qualified. PSP games never really pulled me in a game, I’m addicted to PSP, because of the homebrew. The fact that you can develop whatever you want on it.

I own sony mobile android, sony dslr and sony psp. I’m not a Sony hater, I just think that they made a game device that could be released in the 90′s. (as I don’t value the fact that it has a cpu that is uber high for a mobile device) Closed source, protections infine, no way of running your own code, …

They added an emulator for PSP, would it be that much to ask to add an emulator for user-generated code ?

Huge power but nothing to do with it? FUCK YOU!!!
it’s too fucking early to fucking say that shit!(which I already heard when the 3ds is newly released) give the developers time and you’ll eat you’re words!

Frankly, I mean that in a coders way. PS3 has huge possibility’s beside being a game console. Yet Sony kept it locked down.
Same goes for Vita, it has a huge power, yet its only used for games ? I’m guessing it can’t run most video formats, it can’t open a pdf/docx/odt file … forget about e-readers, …

Ill be very happy if I should be proven wrong. But a console is only complete if hardware and software are worth the price. (for me, it isn’t.)

Also its pretty rude to say “f* you” if you disagree with someone opinion.

          Apologies for the ‘F’ words

I get your point about Sony making a good console and then locking the good stuff.

“Same goes for Vita, it has a huge power, yet its only used for games?” -Like I said too early but knowing Sony……….just maybe

I’m guessing it can’t run most video formats, it can’t open a pdf/docx/odt file … forget about e-readers,.. -Get an ipad!!

But a console is only complete if hardware and software are worth the price.(for me, it isn’t.) -There are no console/videogame that are newly released that is worth the price, just wait and there will be a sure price drops

It’s not a locked up system, your just ‘wanting’ all the time. Thier devices is of thier making so YOU choose whether you want it or not. Besides, they are GAMING devices so you can’t expect more than what is advertised…

    Not for many reasons:
    1. The piracy meassure they used of go after every hacker and sue them.
    2. The experience that I have with my PS3 that have less features no OtherOS, then the removal of some third party USB accesories etc…
    3. Too pricie and not really any game that is worth getting the sistem, yea uncharted is good, but is not to buy a 250 sistem + 20MCto that game.
    4. All propietary formats when they could use SD cards or memory stick pro that i have plenty, or use another type that can be used on other things they make a Vita only MC
    5. Not alot of games and alot of them are games are games that are for the PS3 (Mortal Kombat, Ultimate MvsC, SFxT, Disggaea 3 and many more) sure the 3DS have alot of remakes, but i prefer remakes of games that i played from 10 to 20 years ago, that rebuy games that i bought 1 or 2 years back.
    6. If you want to play your old PSP games you have to rebuy them and to make things worse digitally
    7. Looking at the 3DS and PSVita, and leaving out fanitism, almost all can agree that its better to buy a 3DS

The only things that can make me buy one is if:
    1. It gets fully hacked

No I won’t, not because of “Sony spies” but after about 10 – 12 months the prices will probably drop dramatically, just like the PS3 (Which in Australia was around about a $1200 when it was first released and after about a year or two it went to less than half the price at about !$483!). So I guess I’ll just play the shit out PS3 until then.

the only reason for me that i am happy that the psvita exists is that there is a chance that it gets fully hacked and we can use al the power of this thing to run our own code. i can’t wait to run n64 games at full speed. maybe some android systems can do this already but i hate touch screen controls.

but so far we can only run hbl on it which basicly means we have the limitations of a psp in a new device. and that is like buying a new PC, then running a NDS emulator on it to run a gameboy emulator, it is nice to see it but if that is al you want to do with it you could better buy a NDS and a R4 card.

Thiner, probably more RAM (if it follows PSP path), lighter, less expensive and much more games. Hopefully CFW by then as well and cheaper “memory stick” (or whatever they are called now.

    Reply

  22. shapeshifter’s avatar

yes they might as well have allowed exchange of memory sticks for a much larger ps vita one course at a lesser rate and should have stopped piracy by allowing devs to include homebrew via android market or something and at a minimal rate or added ads to gain money that would have boosted the sales

I sold my wii for 200 dollars( I chipped it with wiikey , had software hacks, home brew channel and a few extra controllers) and my psp go for 100 bucks, that is the only reason I could afford one. I have a wifi preordered from amazon, with the 32 gig card, the 3G is useless IMHO. I am excited for the system, but this is Sony and they burned their consumers many many times, so I am hopeful, but very worried still, there is a lot about game pricing/structure they are being very coy about, makes me think they have something to hide. If I Had the disposable income to buy one without selling my other systems I don’t think I would. I think I would just drop the big bucks and get an ipad2 for my boyfriend.

Already got a Japanese Wi-Fi only Vita, bought it at launch. Still playing Minna no Golf 6 (that game is way too addicting for me). Don’t know if I’ll ever get a 3G one later on… Oh yeah, Little Deviants is also a Japanese launch title – its Japanese title is “Sawari Ma Kuuru”. In my opinion the Japanese launch lineup was pretty spectacular (compare it with the 3DS launch lineup), but it doesn’t really cater to Japanese players (I still want a few games I missed from the launch lineup – like BlazBlue or UMvC3 for example).

Honestly, I’m not sure what games I should get when it gets released in the US… I’m more excited with games like Ragnarok Odyssey releasing next week – not interested in getting any US title, except for Gravity Daze and DW Next. Oh, and the spying and proprietary thing didn’t really bother me (well, except for the fact that they’re really overpriced, I guess).
