VHBL for Gamocracy One: Legend of Robot

What is it?

Vita Half-Byte Loader is a homebrew loader for the Playstation Vita, running through the PSP emulator on the Playstation Vita.

This is the official VHBL download page for people who own a copy of the PSP Game Gamocracy One: Legend of Robot, and a firmware 2.12 or lower. If you don’t own this game, or have a higher firmware, go back to the VHBL page to see if we have a version of VHBL working with a game you own.

Check the VHBL page for more details on this tool.

Known issues

Not all homebrews will work with VHBL, head over to the gigantic VHBL Homebrew thread for details on what games work or not.

There is a bug with the default menu (wMenu) which might tell you with a red screen, something along the lines of:”Error! Couldn’t find any homebrews in ms0:/PSP/VHBL/ Please check your config file and/or restart VHBL”

If you see this error, don't freak out, just press LEFT TRIGGER

If you see this error, don’t freak out, just press LEFT TRIGGER

This is a known issue, and happens only as long as you don’t have any homebrew installed. To get rid of this error message, press the LEFT TRIGGER on your console, this will force wMenu to go to the SAVEDATA subfolder.

The issue is a simple one but I was too lazy to fix that. People with the right coding skills might want to have a look at the source of wMenu here and send me a patch.

alternatively, you can give a try to an other menu such as 138Menu here

How to Install and Run HBL on Gamocracy One: Legend of Robot

  • It is *strongly* recommended that you turn of all wireless connections on your PS Vita, and that you use OpenCMA on your PC instead of the regular CMA. This is recommended because otherwise your console has a way to force you to upgrade the firmware even before you get a chance to use the exploit.
  • Extract the HBL archive matching your version of the game in your CMA PSP Savedata folder. It is a folder on your PC named PSSAVEDATA/[lots of random characters here]. If you don’t know where it is, check your settings in CMA
  • Connect your PS Vita to the PC through the CMA, it should give you the possibility to copy the savedata from your PC to the Vita. If not, you probably extracted it in the wrong folder. (Note: You will also want to install some homebrews with a similar technique, read the section below)
  • To run HBL, start the game, then go to “High Scores”. At this point, VHBL should start

How to Install and Run Homebrews

Installing homebrews on the PSP was an easy task. On the Vita, until better solutions are provided, it’s quite a pain in the ***.
The CMA will only let you copy savedata, and will not recursively browse folders.

To address this, HBL comes with a tool that can extract archives with a specific structure.

Packaging the homebrew for installation on the Vita:
1) download PSP homebrews from your favorite website
2) extract the homebrew somewhere on your hard drive, and with your favorite utility, zip it again with the store setting (no compression), in a file that you will name “INSTALL.ZIP” (uppercase is important). If your compression tool does not have compression options, I recommend 7zip.
3) take any PSP savedata (but not the one used for HBL!), and add the “INSTALL.ZIP” to that folder, in your PC CMA folder. so your PSP Savedata will look something like this:
in folder PSSAVEDATA/1a2b3c4def5678/UCUS12345000/ (or something like this) you will have the following files:
– ICON0.PNG
– PIC1.PNG
– DATA.BIN
– PARAMS.SFO
– INSTALL.ZIP

On this page you will find several pre-packaged homebrews that have already been prepared to run with VHBL.

Installing:
1) run OpenCMA on your PC, and CMA on your Vita
2) copy the previously packaged SAVEDATA (see above) with your homebrew in “INSTALL.ZIP” on your Vita
3) run HBL (how to run HBL is explained in the previous section)
4) navigate with the HBL menu to the SAVEDATA folder, then go to the folder you just downloaded (in my example, UCUS12345000), and click cross or circle on it
5) At this point, the HBL menu should ask you if you want to install the homebrew. select yes, and wait until HBL is done extracting your homebrew
6) The homebrew is now installed, and you can run it by going to the VHBL folder, if everything went well, a new subfolder with your homebrew has been created here, and you can run the homebrew

More

OpenCMA is strongly recommended to install if you want to use VHBL. Open CMA is a tool by Virtuous Flame that allows you to copy files from and to your vita without being connected to the internet. This is useful, especially if you don’t want Sony to forcefully update your firmware.

Odd. VHBL has booted, and I can navigate to the NPUG80413SAVEDATA folder for Piyatoma that I converted into the prepackaged Lamecraft r56, but it won’t install or display the INSTALL.ZIP that I know is there. I tried again with JellyCar V1.1, but the same thing. Anyone know what the problem might be?

TL;DR, VHBL not trying to install homebrews. Help?

  5. mikey says:

The EU version stops at “Freeing memory”, but its still possible to leave the VHBL using the PS-Button.

  6. PeffHD says:

When I install it on my psvita, the app is not on my home screen. Can anyone make a voice tutorial on youtube and put a link on here? So please.

  9. X says:

This thing makes no sense. Installing homebrew just doesn’t make sense at all. The directions aren’t clear enough, or my comprehension of it is terrible, but either way, it needs a more detailed walk through.

    • Chen5441 says:

There has been a tutorial made by thez94
On YouTube. Stop complaint and actually look and maybe you would’ve found it yourself.

    • wololo says:

Just download pre-packaged ones initially from our forum. You’ll get the idea with time. Other people have figured it out, you’ll understand too eventually. The technique is cumbersome and my explanations are not great, but it’s midnight here and I have to wake up early for work tomorrow. The community is better than me at explaining stuff 🙂

    • Chen5441 says:

Are you serious… There has been a tutorial of how to install it since before the actual files were released. The guys name on YouTube is “TheZ94”

    It works perfect! / /
For those who have not yet been able to make the simple form.

-Keep the “Savegame” of some other game they have. on your computer to add the “install.zip” folder in “/ PSAVEDATA \ NUMBER \ SUSAVEDELJUEGO \ (which is uncompressed, and ready the discharge section wololo).

-Remember the name that will appear the same in the VHBL.
-The visit VHBL folder “savegame” thus kept show all the other games, the lodge is that clicking on the savegame that has the “install” will recognize and install. posteenlo doubt here and try to answer salu2

  19. Sparkey says:

I use the prepackaged files, and follow instructions as best I can, but I’m running into a problem.

When I select the save file in the HBL that contains the Homebrew, instead of asking to install it I just go right into the folder, still in the directory.
    What am I doing wrong?

Just installed this with 138 menu and everything is running great. did run into one problem (first homebrew try) tested gpsp kai and it loaded. wanted to exit with the start select method… gamocracy crashed… when it reloaded, it went into the game again it had part of the screen on the opposite side (almost split screen). I tried home button and then going back in bit the vita locked up and crashed. Also for sure snes9xtyl mod doesnt work. it loaded, and then tried to load a mario something or another and then crashed. I will ahve to install another build.
    Thanks QR for your port!

  24. Nick says:

Thank you so much wololo et. al! Your work with the PS Vita community is greatly appreciated!

  25. ForteGS says:

Are the chances high that this VHBL will develop into more like psp iso etc or this is about it?

    • wololo says:

No, the chances are low. All of the devs I know with the skills to work on psp kernel exploits have either clearly stated they would not release their work, or are M.I.A.

  26. mida84 says:

Thanks to everyone involved with this. Any alternate links to the EU version as I can’t seem to get the provided one to work.

  27. Raphael Wood says:

    • wololo says:

The compatibility of this vhbl port is above average. Check the forums where people give tricks on how to get the homebrews to work, or provide working versions.

  31. dwight says:

can you use a gamocracy iso and rip the files then install it onto the vita?

  32. Steve says:

I think I have everything figured out, where to put home brew and whatnot. When I go into VHBL and to the save folder for my game, it asks to install but hangs up on “5remaining files” and never does anything after until I hit home on the VITA just to get out of it. What am I missing?

I cant put the files of the homebrews or emulators inside the PSAVEDATA because I only have this folder (NPUZ00259DATA00) and not this folder (UCUS12345000) I have seen to much tutos that people have the second folder in their PSAVEDATA and they save the files inside that folder but they dont even explain how to get that folder..
