So I am a noob who just bought new Vita off eBay with the intent of hacking it so I can use it as a portable retro/PSP/Vita game player. But it appears I bit off a bit more than I can chew, because the Vita I received is running FW 1.03, which is the earliest firmware of all. It was the firmware that the first Vitas released with in Japan back in 2011. The problem is, I can't update it to 3.60 using the DNS method (I get errors), and I can't update it to 3.60 using the Content Manager Assistant because that program only works with Vitas with FW 1.60 and above.
Can anyone help me with this? This seems to be a somewhat unique problem. Most people buy secondhand Vitas with much newer, up-to-date firmwares, so there are a lot of resources to help with that. But there are very few threads I am finding that deal with the ancient launch-era firmwares. I've found a few links to programs that can help me with this, but those links are all dead or taken down. Don't know where to start...
Everything that is PSVita-related but doesn't go in any other subforum
