How to Convert PSN PKG Games to Folder Backup Game CFW PS3

Post by pacuer123 » Thu Sep 03, 2015 9:20 pm

Hi and welcome. You might have some PSN games installed on your PS3 HDD with CFW and you want them in the External Storage (for future booting using your favorite Backup Manager) to free some space. We’ll see how to convert PKG files of a PSN game into a folder bootable from External Storage (i.e: BLES-XXXXX folder) using Aldo’s PS3Tools. For the sake of the tutorial I’ll use PSN Crysis 1.
First of all, you’ll need:
- PKG file of the game you want to convert to a game folder backup.
- PS3Tools from Aldo. A quick search on the internet and you’ll find them (http://www.aldostools.org).
- A Hexadecimal editor. For this tutorial we’ll use HexEdit.
- ODE resigner. (https://mega.nz/#!gFQ2kK6C!iNio9kCANbvU ... xZJjUGWhZk)
- Game Structure. (https://mega.nz/#!dMwh2QqY!wwxftury-ddu ... y0DGnI2Yrs)
- A PC running Windows.
- A CFW running PS3.
- And patience.
Procedure:
1.- Extract the .rar file provided somewhere on your PC.
2.- Unpack the game using PKG View 1.7 from the PS3tools.
Open the PKG Game file and extract the folders of the PKG (i.e: USRDIR, TROPDIR, etc) and every other file in the PS3_GAME folder you found on the .rar provided in this tutorial. To know if you’re doing it right: Everything in the NPUXXXX inside the PKG file should be placed in PS3_GAME in the structure provided in this guide.
If the game has a fix PKG you’ll just copy the extracted files in the PS3_GAME folder and save over the old files.

3.- Edit the PARAM.SFO file extracted with PARAM SFO Editor in PS3Tools.
Open the PARAM.SFO file and change the “HG Harddrive Game" option to “DG Disc Game”. Also Copy the name of the game (in this case NPUB30302) because you’ll need it later. Hit the save button and close.

4.- Edit the LIC.DAT file with HexEdit.
Open the LIC.DAT file in the LICDIR folder in the structure and search for a game ID and change it for the one you copied before (in this case NPUB30302). If there appears on screen a window just hit Yes. Save and close the HexEdit.

5.- Edit the PS3_DISC.SFB provided in this tutorial with PS3 DISC SFB EDIT in PS3Tools.
Open the PS3_DISC.SFB file and change the name provided with the one you copied before (in this case NPUB-30302). Hit the save button and close.

6.- Change the EBOOT.BIN file with the ODE resigner .
Place the EBOOT.BIN file located in the USRDIR folder in the folder where you extracted the ODE resigner provided in this tutorial (there’s even a .txt file showing you the way) and execute the “run me” file. Follow the instructions and the generated EBOOT.BIN file must be copied and overwrite the one in the USRDIR folder in the structure.
7.- Copy the structure in your External Storage (GAMEZ folder) and run it with your backup manager.
8.- Enjoy!
This was tested with a CFW 4.75 PS3 with MultiMAN 4.75. Sorry for the language I’m no native English-speaker, it was quite hard so I tried my best. I added some captures of the process placed in my MEGA cloud. I've been noticed that some games won't boot this way, so I'll list the games that worked for me using this guide:
-Helldivers
-Shovel Knight
-Crysis

Thanks to Aldo for the PS3Tools provided for this tutorial and the creators of the ODE resigner and HexEdit.

This guide is nothing new and has been around for some time in various forms.

Plus there is a SIMPLE to use app that does all this and more and makes this process not needed.
http://www.psx-place.com/ps3-news/1321/ ... telli.html

The tut is great for documentation reasons., but to win a contest on guides that have been around for really a couple of years just does not make sense to me. Where are the ORIGINAL tuts @? (besides MYSIS tuts i have not seen really any original tuts for the ps3 in this contest (may of missed a few others perhaps). Tutorials are great and everyone adds value but this is a contest right? I think re-hashed tutorals that have been done and can find on any PS3 scene site just seems wrong to gather a prize from as this was based on others findings...

Thanks for your reply. I made this tutorial in order to contribute to the community with the method I've been using for a long time but I didn't find it here in the forums. Since this was a contribution and also a tutorial, I wanted to enter the contest. I encourage you to do the same and contribute to the community with a new tutorial. Let's keep this forum alive.
