You need a PS3 for using the 3.18 kernel exploits (that does not work on 3.3x).

Otherwise you have to update to 3.35 to download an exploit game directly via your PS Vita.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm in 3.35 so I have to download an exploit game (how is that? normal game signed so the vita eats it?) and then transfer it to the vita via OCMA or charles right?

I'm interested in homebrew, not that deep inside psp/vita games

So i picked up a 3.08 fw refurb vita. At this point, the best thing to do is update it to 3.18 and get the exploit installed? Is there a way to install it offline from my cfw ps3, or some kinda PC tool or I have to find someone with an active psn account?

No, ps3 with PSN account with access to the PS servers is needed.

I've been out of the loop on the ps3 scene as well. But is there a simple way to safely access the PSN with a ps3 running rebug cfw, and if so, have it NOT force a system update on you?

Well, I technically just need the online access for exploiting the Vita. I have never played online with the ps3, set up a ps+ or bought anything from the ps store.

Actually I don't mind getting banned as long as I can get the vita exploit installed, and anything else I might need to do with a psn account by the time a ban does/might happen.

You need to use the same account on the PS3 that is on the Vita, If the account gets banned then that exploit becomes useless.

Sure, but don't I just need network connection to get the update installed, and then basically never again? The vita will be out of date, so I can't connect it anyway to install stuff live right?
