Pandora Batteries: Does it need to be official sony battery?

Post by tr4g- »

Hey guys,

pulled out my old 1000 and low and behold all my batteries and completely gone and hold zero charge at all. So I'm looking into buying a pack of 2 more. I want the option of creating a pandora battery, so I was wondering if this only works with official sony psp batteries or if I could use aftermarket ones, either 1800 or 3600mAh. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, not sure where else this would go. Downgrading perhaps?

Yeah, you'll need an official Sony battery. I just tested it out with a "fake" battery, couldn't write to the eeprom.

ugh, what are the odds of finding an original sony battery that works at this point in time though? They don't have brand new ones obviously, so guess its time for ebay :(

thanks for the quick response, i figured as much but just wanted to double check

I have another question: Ive been looking the chart of psp motherboards and what they are capable of... So it says that only the ta85v1 is capable of creating pandora batteries... what does that mean exactly? I remember on the phat you physically created the pandora by changing the circuitry. Is this not possible on the slim? Couldn't I just make a pandora for the slim and then use that on my non ta85v1 but also not ta88v3 slim and then be able to use time machine etc? I have an 88v3 right now and am curious which motherboard I can buy off ebay to make it completely hackable. I thought at first it was only the 85v1, but the chart here confuses me by saying that others cant create a pandora...

The list refers to softmodding the battery, the early PSP mobos have write access to the batteries eeprom.
End result is the same, just the battery doesn't need to be opened.

Yeah, I was referring to softmodding when I did my test, the battery I tested with failed to write to the eeprom with PSP Tool. No idea if other "fake" batteries will work.

I havent used my pandora battery for a long time yesterday I tried it, its not charging, turning led green or any sign of life :? Just blinked a few times red and all gone today I asked price of battery for the PSP 1000 guy said 25 $ My battery is still healthy although its my second battery so I dont want to make it pandora. I was careless with the phat PSP since there is always a chance to recover it but from now on I have to be more careful since I dont have pandora. I wish there was a method to make pandora without hardmod and also without the need of a PSP.

When you need pandora your PSP is already down, how can you make it when your PSP isnt turning on  I dont want to break anything of a new working battery. Best is not to seek adventure, there is always a chance of brick even if you do the things according to the rules, tiny but there is.

Even second hand PSP-go is impossible to find and stores demand 20 $ for 10 second pandora rescue

Every PSP 1000 + one single PSP 2000, the TA-085v1 board.

Any PSP 2000 board can not write to the battery and any other PSP can not read from and write to the battery.
