HOW DOES RSOD, BLUE SCREEN AND BRICK HAPPENS ??
What are the circumstances that it happens ??
Any ways to prevent it from happening??
PLEASE SHARE =D

*Changing the version.txt incorrectly gives a RSOD(thats what happened to me just now.)

Okay, I've a 3004. No RSOD, no brick, no anything. Just asking.

They happen because of modifying critical files. From less important to more important: Blue Screen (IdStorage corrupt IIRC), RSOD (never saw that, but who cares  ), brick (boot or critical FW files corrupt).

Don't touch flash memory and you'll be safe.

Lolwut? xD

In order from least to worst:
BSOD = flash1 corruption
RSOD = flash0 corruption, corrupted files are usually VSH (XMB) related
Brick = flash0 corruption to where RSOD can't show up, just power light on, nothing on screen

All of these usually happen because someone tried to edit/replace a file and it didn't work. To prevent RSOD/Brick, don't mess with flash0 and avoid homebrew that flashes stuff.

I had something weird happen to me last night.

I was using my PSP with all of the stuff that I've had on it for about a week now (CXMB, custom system_bg RCO, custom gameboot.PMF) and I got the RSOD.

My heart dropped for a minute (as I thought I bricked my only fully functional PSP) but then I tried my other (identical) Sandisk 8gig Pro Duo mem stick (with almost identical files, the only differences were the ISO's on each card) and my PSP works just fine.

Now the weird thing about this whole situation is that the memory stick that gives me the RSOD with any custom stuff on it still works for legit Sony PSN purchased games.

Can anyone explain this?

PSP model 3001 04g

Edit : I've tried reformatting the problem memory stick twice via PC (Fat32 format) and twice via the PSP (standard memory stick reformat) and I get the same results.

I've deleted the version.txt and all of my plugins ( I really miss remotejoy lite :( No more videos from me on youtube) and I've also deleted ISO Tool and gone back to just plain Prometheus ISO loader and it works good now.

The same RSOD happened on both of my Sandisk 8gig sticks now. The main thing they had in common was ISO Tool. Which I just recently learned writes to Flash0 :? I should have read up and learned that it did that, I wouldn't have installed it on my 3001 4g.

I'm removing ISO Tool from my 3001 3g as we speak.

In the end it's my own fault for not reading up and jumping into something I didn't fully understand. I'm just greatful that it's only the RSOD (semi-brick) and not a full brick.
