Using the DUAL Joysticks on the Vita when playing PSP Games

Using the DUAL Joysticks on the Vita when playing PSP Games

Postby melka_ashur » Thu Jan 03, 2013 5:18 pm

Hey everyone. Do you guys know if it is possible to reconfigure the controls in such a way, that when I am playing a PSP game on my exploited Vita system, I can utilize the dual joysticks, rather than PSP's single joystick? Thank you.

And that goes for PSP games too? And for hardware (second joystick) which weren't available for the system (PSP) which those games were intended for? Wow... great. I'll try it out. TY!

I tried it out in SOCOM Fire Team Bravo 2, it worked as you said, but unfortunately the right joystick simply mirrored the same functionality as the left joystick, moving the character, and it could not be assigned for any other function, for example looking/aiming. The game uses the --> button and then the joystick as a "free look"/aim control, but I wish that functionality could be assigned to the right joystick as the shooters with two joysticks always do. Having only one joystick on the PSP was a HUGE setback to shooters on the system, but I guess being able to change the controls at such a deep level, would probably require the game programmer themself.

It only works for psp games.
and you assign it to buttons so it doesn't work well with some games.

It works great with phantasy star portable 2 when mapping the D-pad to the right analog stick, makes it seem as if the game was designed for use on a vita.

Awesome. So It probably depends on what the game's original controls are. Now that I think about it, some of the shooter games used the PSP's joystick for movement, and then used the action buttons (O, X, square and triangle) as the looking buttons. In those games, it is probably possible to reassign those action buttons to the right joystick, and then each joystick would have its own functionality. It is just problematic to do so in Fireteam Bravo 2, because the looking functions aren't their own button, but enabled by pressing the --> on the D-pad and then using the same joystick which is used for movement. I will have to remember which shooters on PSP use the action buttons to aim, and then try it with those.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker works amazingly well with the dual analog sticks.

what are you talking about? i use it for the direction buttons and the symbol buttons (depending on the game) to change camera for games like monster hunter and gods eater burst

Thanks for the suggestion Retro, I'll try that one out.

I guess what I explained above as far as fireteam bravo 2's button configuration for the free-look functionality might be a bit confusing. But if any of you guys can figure out a way to get fireteam bravo 1's analog sticks to perform similar to the Vita game, Black Ops Declassified, where the left stick moves and the right stick looks/aims, then I would love to hear how. But i suspect it cannot be done, due to how the original PSP game button configuration is set. m
