Half Life 2 without playing original Half Life

Hi guys,

some of my friends suggested that I play Half Life 2 because they said that it is an awesme game, and from trailers and reviews I've basically decided to get the Orange Box, but I have one question. I have (sadly) never played the original Half life, and I was wondering if the story of Half life 2 is still understandable without playing it, or should I at least watch a playthrough on youtube or something before I play Half life 2 (and the following episodes).
My PSPs:
Spoiler
PSP 3002 (03g) 6.60 PRO-C (thanks Coldbird & Virtuous flame!)
PSP 2002 (02g) 6.60 ME-1.8 (thanks Neur0n!)

If you want anything translated to/from japanese (to/from english) for your Homebrew, send me a PM and I'll see if I can help :)

The Story is a big part of these games. You should definitely check out the first one. On that note, you're in luck. There is a remake of the first game called Black Mesa, and its free. I had never played the first one till Black Mesa and I have to tell you...amazing game. You wont be sorry, how could you be, its free.

Download Black Mesa, its an HD version of Half Life 1 for free!
But yes you can play HL2 without 1, there isn't much of a story gap.

late update, I bought it in the end and I must say it is an awesome game! at the moment I've played Portal, Half Life 2 and i think most of episode 1, and I have downloaded black mesa but I haven't played it yet.

edit: Actually, I also played Team Fortress 2 for about an hour, enjoyed it but everyone else was so damn good

Word, I love TF2 but some of those people playing it are so freakin' good its crazy. I just keep at it though and Ive found my niche. I usually roll as a Medic, they're always needed but no one wants to be one. If im not a Medic I use Soldier.
