i bought the Turbo SIM and put my local optus SIM but cannot edit operator settings. Manual is greyed out.

edit: i get the signals, ie 5 bars with a small X and not 3g.k

Yep, that x is a failed SIM registration, unless you call up AT&T and ask them to unlock your PS Vita 3G, you won't be able to change the APN no matter what, and Vodafone sells cheap AU Vitas, why didn't you buy it at home?

*EDIT: Optus will work in a native AU console, UK, AU are PAL, PAL and Asian (HK) allow any SIMs. Look, any PS Vita Wi-Fi/3G you buy will work with any 3G operator and will be configurable except the AT&T and NTT DoCoMo.

Oh, and I'd recommend you sell your PS Vita, and get the Hong Kong PS Vita Value Pack. You'd be getting a fuckload of accessories, a game and the console, in some large-ass box, which is as sexy as hell!

*2nd EDIT: Taiwan is also locked, but because of how overpiced just the Wi-Fi model is, I doubt you'd even think of getting the 3G version! Oh, but all consoles can use English!

Update:
I've made some tests and I can confirm that the APN Settings are the problem.
The AT&T APN is "hardcoded" inside the PS Vita, so the SIM unlock only allows to register to the cellular network but the APN doesn't change.
I've tested with two SIM'S (from different carriers) with no avail.

If someone finds a workaround it'll be greatly appreciated. (I doubt that it could work without some of kind of SW modification but who knows)

Finally, someone finally realized that and can now work out a solution, but I've already beaten you to it. AFAIK, you need AT&T to unlock it, and when I searched for "ENTEL" (which is the operator your screenshots showed), it gave me results for operators in Chile, well, you'll need whoever got you a US to get the PS Vita to be in the US, as AT&T can only unlock devices in it's area(s) of operation, not South America. If you can bring the PS Vita to the US, or to the UK, I could unlock it for you, or help you with that. But you'd need to give AT&T a VERY GOOD reason, and I doubt it would be free. Sell it as new, and buy a UK console, just leave the power cable and don't sell it. You can get a UK version on eBay, the item number is 261078961889, you can buy it at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PlayStatio ... 3cc984cee1

That would work 100% anywhere in the world, or, http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-PSVITA-3G- ... 5d31b5e56a is Hong Kong version, and FREE 4GB memory card!

Tell me what your thinking of, I can help you out. I might know someone who wants to buy a PS Vita but can't afford a new one, he might buy from you if you consider!

Well, I knew that the 3G connection would be useless on another territories (outside US) but I wanted the 3G version (I don't know why, maybe because is the "full featured" product?)

I wrote a mail to sony some time ago asking about the AT&T thing and here's the answer:

My name is ********, your PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita™) specialist. I am more than happy to provide you with more information regarding the 3G feature of the PS Vita™. I do apologize for any frustration you have experienced.

AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the PS Vita™ in the United States. To receive 3G service you will need a 3G/Wi-Fi PS Vita and a DataConnect Pass plan from AT&T. I do apologize currently, we do not have 3G service for any other region. I understand the frustration created by this and apologize.

Please keep an eye on the PlayStation® Blog for updated information regarding the 3G feature. This is where all communications are posted regarding our activity.

Again, please accept my deepest apologies for any frustration or inconvenience this has created. I would like to thank you for your time and understanding.

I know, just incase something epic comes out, I don't want to be like "If only that extra $50..."

This... fuck Sony. "AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the PS Vita™ in the United States" <-Doesn't mean you can't use it outside the US. Tell them that you insist that they unlock it, infact, they wouldn't be able to help you.

AT&T processes all of the IMEI unlocks, give them your IMEI, or to me (the PM I sent you) and I/AT&T will unlock it for you! The APN can be changed once the IMEI is unlocked, not once a CFW is available or some shit like that.

Call AT&T up, and ask them to unlock it. Tell them your on holiday and AT&T roaming isn't available on the operator your using, and that your living in the Mountains, they'll fall for it, believe me.

Tell me how it goes!

That's a good point, I just wrote a mail to SONY explaining that I'm not in the United States and that here in my country all phones (and devices that uses a cellular network) are sold unlocked, so using the 3G connection won't be a problem.
I wrote that if they can send me the legal aspects of the 3G connection (about using the Vita outside U.S.) and If AT&T can do something about that.
I know that the carriers can unlock the IMEI, if you have an old phone here (locked) you can access the provider website that sold you the phone, enter the device IMEI and it'll automatically unlocked (it takes like 30 seconds to be unlocked).
So when the sony answer arrives it'll be posted here.

UPDATE - Sony Answer:

Thank you for contacting PlayStation® Technical Support. My name is *****, and I will be assisting you today. I understand how frustrating it can be when a product is not working as expected.

Unfortunately, we do not have any information on unlocking the IMEI in order to use the 3G service in your location. The United States PlayStation®Vita is only able to connect to AT&T 3G services in the US.

You can certainly contact AT&T for more information regarding the use of their service in another region. I have included their contact information below:

Phone: 1-800-331-0500
Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 11:00PM
Saturday, 9:00AM - 9:00PM
Sunday, Closed

Thank you for your time and patience, as well as the opportunity to assist you.

I'll give AT&T a call now....

UPDATE 2: The AT&T rep said "the vita cannot be unlocked" nothing more nothing less.

UPDATE 2: The AT&T rep said "the vita cannot be unlocked" nothing more nothing less.

I just had a friend do it, and he was on AT&T. And, still, even though he said that he didn't know what model his "phone" was, they asked him for a IMEI and they unlocked it. Afterwards the guy was like, "wait, this is a PS Vita" and then the friend hung up. I'm going to try doing it when I go to the US with another friend with a PS Vita

With all due respect. Can you STOP editing my posts. If I've seen moderators swear on this site's forums, why can't I? Damn. I know youve read what I wrote about the smilies!

The funny part is that when I said "Where is the agreement that says that it cannot be unlocked outside the U.S.?, I'm not in the U.S. right now and I want to use my 3G connection here"
And after 3 or 4 seconds of silence the rep said: "it cannot be unlocked" that's all.
Well I don't care, I knew that it cannot be unlocked but I'll keep calling AT&T until they give some real answer.

UPDATE 1: AT&T contacted me, this is the response:
"It's not about where you're physically located, it's the device itself." (I don't know what that means, I guess that it requires some baseband or fw update to be completely unlocked). So they asked my mail and IMEI for an "official response". I'll post the "official information" here.

UPDATE 2: This is the official answer from AT&T
ATTCustomerCare <xxxxxx@att.com>
I am sorry ********, but the PS Vita is not eligible to be unlocked. Please refer to the manufacturer for information as to when this will be available.
