sounds like the internal psu went out
what model ps3 is it that you have?
no lights is normally complete power loss
as most of the main board failures still provide the red light on most fat ps3's as far as ive seen
if you can find someone with a matching fat or matching slim ps3 that will let you test the power supply in your ps3 then that will help narrow down wither its the psu or not
just switch in the power supply, ad power cord and if you git the red running light your good
do not power the unit on without the proper psu for your ps3 though, just test it with the off red light
cecha01 and different slims have different running power due to the differences in the main boards but all have the same off power running to the red light
DO NOT TRY TO USE A FAT PS3 PSU IN A SLIM PS3 or vise-verse

your looking around$15 to $40 for a fat psu and $25 to $50 for a slim

if you have a cecha01-cechb01, make sure to git a psu for that model as it has a 3rd power mode for ps2 games
have fun, stay safe

look for a dis assembly guide on youtube for opening the shell
ones the tops off, the power supply should only have 5 screws and the grounding wire has one screw with 2 washers, unplug the rear power plug and front mother board cables and then pull the psu strait up with the system laying flat, careful not to bend the two copper prongs that it slides down on as you pull it up
install new psu in revers order and you should be ok

any one else think im missing a step please post
here is a good guide for a cecha01

did you clean the heat sink after this but before the ylod?
also try new heat-sink compound too next time
the ps3 can handle 1 or 2 over heats before the board starts going insane
re flows are common and do work for the most part for about 3 too 5 times before a re-ball is needed(lead-less solder breaks down a little more after each reflow)
a reflow shouldn't cost more then $25-$45usd
re-balling needs to be done by a professional company with warrantied work backed by full replacement of repaired model(many say this then try to replace with a different model)

I haven't tried to get it fixed but seeing as though (I think) it came on 1.50 OFW, I'm really tempted to get it properly fixed by a professional. I think the FW on it is 3.60 so I can just downgrade it (like I've done before with other PS3's) and install CFW again (I already have 3 PS3's on CFW  ).

just don't use the hairdryer trick
it degrades the sata controller.....i have about 4 with this issue, they boot normally to the "inert a hdd" screen with no hdd in, and go strait to red blinker with a hdd inserted
im waiting on 2 more so i can send them to a friend to fix in Atlanta ga for a reasonable deal

Yeah, I've seen that trick and I won't attempt it. I've also seen a oven trick! And I won't attempt that too! I'll eventually get it professionally fixed when I can be bothered.
