Sweet, thanks! Added those to my file; haven't reuploaded it, though.

And sure, I'll take the translated ones. :) I've been playing with it in Romaji, but I'm curious, ngl. (could you put those too-long lines above/below the actual lines, and comment them out, maybe? They could be edited by people more easily then, I think...)

Currently, working on cleaning up and translating more of the menu_help png files. A good lot of it is what shows up in Edit mode -- having trouble with one of the lines in particular, though. It's in menu_help_02, far left, third from bottom -- SELECT: (four kanji characters). In the screen where it shows up (manual character placement) pressing Select returns your character to the near-center of the stage, facing "forward" (bottom of the screen) which is kind of a... return-to-default sort of thing?

So this one, I'm actually trying to look up the kanji for it. I think I've found "夲俗" so far, but those are the middle two. Unless that one is actually "份"? ....ugh, fonts. :x They do not make me happy, especially while being such tiny little kanji.

Anyone care to help with that one in particular?

Thanks, Steven! :)

Hey, Codestation -- what options did you use for pngquant to produce your pngs? I can't seem to get mine to index with good alphas. :( I've tried the version of pngquant I found, AND both pngnqi and pngquanti that I came across while doing custom DLC modules, and nothing seems to work right so far! Never mind, got it! :D

Edit: Steven? Might want to correct the "Paper Bag" item lines:

Code: Select all
0x08C42950 Juice box (right)
0x08C42988 Juice box (left)

Those are the same little juice boxes they have their juice-box-drinking contests with, in the little skits when you visit their rooms. Dunno where "paper bag" came from, unless it's a reference to the boxes being made of thin cardboard. (Which is entirely possible.)

I guess that's a case of literally-correct translation vs in-context translation at work? :) Which is totally why I'm going for the latter when I'm translating it here myself....

Haha, yeah -- I saw. Looks like you'd just copied what I'd done of the Movements list and Background list, since those were the two that I'd done?

Thanks, though! Nice job on the Romaji lyrics -- I compared ours, and I made a goof in some of the lyrics I'd touched. I must've been more tired than I'd thought. (I've been working on this at stupid o'clock in the morning while I should be sleeping; that's what I get for that, clearly.) The non-lyrics lists should be pretty much okay, though. I double-checked those, brought up their stages in-game... could've brought them up in PD2 to check against that translation too, but... nah.

Edit too:
Steven wrote:EDIT: at the custom module try asking Sonic DX about that @ projectdiva.fr forums (he's the one who shared how to make custom modules)

Yeah. My problem was, I was checking that the alphas were okay by opening them up in both Photoshop and GIMP, and they didn't display as partially-transparent in either. Figured what the heck, why not, since I could always just ask someone else to quantize them for me properly, so long as the translations are correct, right? and chucked them into the game anyhow... and lo and behold, they show up in-game with the correct alphas. Who'd have thunk it. So anyway, I'll be able to provide properly quantized pngs to work in-game after all!

And I've been posting in that DLC thread, actually. Doing DLCs is what's kept me busy and not working on translating this more like I'd intended: see http://nightsail.deviantart.com/art/Kamui-Gakupo-v-2-for-Project-Diva-2-Extend-DL-302862698 and http://nightsail.deviantart.com/art/Luka-s-Butterflies-for-Project-Diva-2-Extend-DL-302449287 (I posted my DLCs to my deviantArt account. :) There's more than those two up there, and I've got a couple others I'm still working on, and more that I have planned....) But see, the DLC textures mostly don't use alphas. Only a few of them do. So it's a bit hard to tell, you know?

EDIT: AAACK! Something nasty just happened and I LOST the copy of my divaext_translation.txt I'd just fixed so many little things in! I still have the divaext_translation.bin I made from it, and I have a copy from yesterday on my laptop still, but the latest version just went poof on me. :(

Um... given that the source code is included in the download in the first post (or at least, I think it is?) I don't suppose it would be a simple thing, to make a decompiler for the .bin files too, would it? Anyone? (I can pick up from yesterday's file and do it again, but I lost track of the details of what I've done. There was a lot of bits I'd changed, and spread all over....)

Oh well. If someone does make a decompiler for the patch's .bin files, cool. If not, I'll just... look through it to redo whatever it was I'd done. Fingers crossed, I'll find that all again. Sigh. If someone eventually does, I'll be happy to look through the decompiled source and find what bits are different, and add those back in if I miss them.

Figuring out the offsets for those other strings would be higher on my list of wanted things, though. ;)

Meanwhile, before my computer tries anything funny again, I'll upload what I've gotten done on the menu_help png files, and the .xcf sources to go with them.

I've cleaned up the xcf files a good bit -- there was debris left in the original pic (now the background) from erasing the Japanese (which is very much gone now.) Also, I turned the text from #FFFFFF to #DDDDDD to match the button symbols' color. Fonts are pretty much all 9px Monospace now (same width as 8px, but now they can be properly centered vertically, and are a lil easier to read) and I adjusted the kerning between a lot of letters to make them look/fit better.

Side note, Monospace came with Gimp. I was looking everywhere for it online. haha.

Anyway, the included .png files are ready to be dropped into the patch's folder, all neatly quantized properly (as I was grumbling about in my prior replies to this topic, silly me.) Includes a ton of Edit Mode control clarifications now, and work's been done in the Playlist section, and random other bits that I recognized and could translate easily. There's some I bet I could translate still, but I want to see those parts in context first, because I want to make sure it's accurate to more than just the literal translation.

Still in need of more offsets:

Nightsail wrote:In Edit mode, once an Edit is loaded up, press Start while in TOP to Change Basic Settings... you get "Song selection" "Select Module A" "Select Module B" etc... the info text isn't in the files, that I can find, for some of those:

EDIT: I FEEL SMART. :|

It's these lines:
Code: Select all
!x088668E0 エディットで使用するモジュールAの変更をすることができます。
!x088668EC エディットで使用するモジュールBの変更をすることができます。
!x088668F8 エディットで使用するモーションの変更をすることができます。
!x08866904 エディットで使用するアイテムの変更をすることができます。
!x08866910 エディットで使用する背景の変更をすることができます。
!x0886691C エディットで使用するエフェクトの変更をすることができます。

Their offsets seem to be wrong; they're not showing up in-game though I've already translated them.

And I found another: ホームに戻りますか? -- this one's asking if you really want to leave the Ad-Hoc mode and return to the home/system menu.

Start a New Game and skip importing a save from PD2. Next it gives you an Install Data offer screen:
Code: Select all
!x08953C04 本ゲームはゲームデータインストール機能に対応しています。
!x08953C18 ゲームデータインストール機能をONに設定しますか?
!x08953C2C ※設定は『オプション』画面で変更することができます。
?????    ※設定は後から『オプション』画面で変更することができます。

I'm pretty sure I got that last line correct, but any rate, I don't have an offset for it. Here's a screencap (with some of my translations) just in case:

Next up, a whole screenful that wasn't found:
PSPscreenshot0464.png
Import PD2 savedata screen

Apologies for not digging up much of the kanji for this one, but it's stupid o'clock already. Let me know if having the strings be copy-and-paste searchable helps, though?

anyways -- I pressed X to cancel, and got this screen:

...oh, heck with it. it's 6am, I'm hitting bed for now. I'll add others I find later.

Edit: And another. The title is "Game Data Install" -- from the title screen, I went to the third option, "Game Data Install" and on the first screenful of text, pressed O. It brought me this:

I know it's asking if I really want to install the game data, but still, Japanese that's not translated is Japanese that's not translated, right? :)

And then I got smart about the 3-file limit for attachments here, and threw all of the other Game Data Install screens I found into one .png file. These were all achieved by telling it yes, install the Game Data -- and then mashing the music note button to take screencaps (the one on top was a rather fleeting message!) and canceling the install, etc.

I'm pretty sure I've got all the text mostly translated (just need to double-check in context!) Aside from the stuff I've found I still need offsets for, all I have left to do is the DIVA Room event titles, that one odd player title (just above Clear congrats!) and half the Savedata SFO info strings. (I'm not worrying about song lyrics, haha.)

Thank you SO MUCH for this plugin, Codestation, and to you and Sonic DX for finding offsets, and to everyone involved for translating things! I really do like this game, and it's so cool to be able to play it in english, rather than guessing at what the text says! :D

Re: Project Diva Extend - Translation (patch 0.4-r2 availabl

Postby Nightsail » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:49 pm

Houston, I may have a problem.

I do not know enough about the technical side of all of this to narrow it down to where exactly this error is. Maybe it's between my keyboard and chair.

First I thought I'd un-commented something that had an incorrect offset that was crashing it; I know there was a previous post where a wrong offset was crashing things. When I was in Edit mode, and went to change the Lyrics' color, the game froze and crashed. I'd been working on attempting to translate the Friend stuff for Ad-Hoc mode, so I thought this was reasonable. Compared that part to the 0.4-r2 file, re-commented-out the associated lines. On my way to that area of the file, I changed some other lines too, corrected some of my typos, rewrote some of the Google translations to proper strings. (Yes, I'm using online translators -- but then figuring out the context in-game and changing the text to suit. It's working well so far, and I'm very pleased with my results!)

I re-compiled my divaext_translation.bin file, tossed it into the plugin folder, and tried it again. No crash when going to Lyric Color options in Edit mode. But the sample text was in Japanese. Noted down what it was, didn't find it. Was thinking to ask for another offset.

Edited more lines that weren't in the Friends strings, cleared more stuff up -- and the updated-again bin file crashes in the Lyrics Color area again. I hadn't even touched the Friends strings.

Compared my translation file to the 0.4-r2 one, did not find any lines that the 0.4-r2 file had commented out but mine didn't. But the 0.4-r2 file didn't crash the game, and mine did.

Double-checked again that none of my lines were too long (compared it to the 0.4-r2 file side by side again; did end up rearranging several lines in each because of making sense of them in context; would that do it somehow?) and found that if anything, a good few of mine were shorter after having fixed grammar and changed phrasing and stuff from the 0.4 release. I fixed some more of my lines, re-compiled it, tried it again....

And then? Mine's not crashing in Lyric Color any more, it's displaying this for the sample text.

Poked at it a few more times, finally got mad and am posting my work thus far in the attached .zip file.

Current tally:
My copy of the translation plugin bin file does not crash in Lyric text color options right now, it just displays what's in the pic above.

menu_help files (button control info at the bottom of the screen) are almost entirely in english now. These have been double-checked in context; it was searching for those last four items that led me to find out about the lyric text color crash in the first place. I've turned the button image for these items a pinkish red color, so they should stand out. If anyone can find them in-game, PLEASE send me a screencap, tell me how to see them myself, something. I want to know what they actually do, so I can translate them properly. I don't want to just guess, you know?

edit_base_04: translated more. (the slider bar for choosing which frame in a character motion/animation it should begin with)

divaext_embedded.txt: basically the same file as Steven and I were last tossing around.

PDE strings notes.txt: my scratch-pad file for translating the divaext_translation file, so I could copy-and-paste stuff, compare phrasing to make things consistent, etc. Also contains most of the kanji and stuff I'd figured out for translating the rest of the menu_help files, probably with several other bits of Japanese text. I thought it might be helpful for anyone working on translating PDE to other languages. ;) ("fine move" by the way, was written as "dot move" -- it's to alter target icon placement in Edit mode pixel-by-pixel instead of sticking to the grid. I think it works well enough as a translation, but YMMV.)

divaext_translation.txt: I've changed SO MUCH. Plenty of lines have (*) at the end of them, which is how I flagged parts as "double-check this in context!" to myself. Some have numbers after that or something; that's for disambiguation purposes. The translations of lines marked with (*) at the end are often very questionable, but might work well enough in context to give someone half a clue. (Especially if, like me, they can't read most kanji and don't have a huge Japanese vocabulary.) Expect a good few Google Translate bit in some of those marked lines. Sorry about that. (But this is why I've been double-checking/triple-checking everything in the game: once I understand it, I re-write it properly.) I've changed many already-translated strings, like making the Title explanations' wording consistent, and totally lost track of what all I've changed. I'm not even going to try picking out every line that's new/different in here, sorry. Playlist functions in the Diva Room have been translated, Edit mode is much more translated, importing saved system data from PD2 is far more translated, etc....

I included the png quantizers from the Custom DLC tools, because they were convenient. (Windows utils.)

My suggestion: Download 0.4-r2 off the first page, so you have all the files needed, and then my file here. If I didn't alter it in some way, I didn't include it in this zip.

If anyone can help me figure out WTF is going on with the lyric text color selection stuff in Edit mode, that'd be great.

THANK YOU AGAIN Codestation, for making this plugin in the first place!

My files: right here.

...Is enough changed in it yet that it should get a 0.5 label?
