[Mac] What do you want in Custom CMA?

[Mac] What do you want in Custom CMA?

Postby n00neimp0rtant » Mon Jun 18, 2012 3:37 pm

I classdumped the Mac version of CMA and it appears Sony made no effort whatsoever to obfuscate the CMA binary. It's obvious we need a better solution to install homebrew on our Vitas, so I'm thinking about starting a project to make it better. I've already got a tweak to patch over the version check (that took like 10 minutes) but I'm thinking about expanding it to altering the UI and workflow to make homebrew management easier. I know none of you have heard of me before but I assure you I know what I'm talking about here.

fellow programmers: I much prefer obj-c runtime method swizzling over direct binary patching, so this will be fully redistributable and without copyright violations. This is the same reason I'm legally allowed to keep my iOS jailbreak masker, xCon, closed-source: it's all hooks, so it doesn't contain any modified copyrighted code, just reimplementations of functions. =P

Here's some key stuff I'd like to know:
  1. Should I abstract the typical "drag-n-drop" homebrew installation into more of "sync" back and forth?
  2. Should I offer integrated homebrew updating support or just let you all handle managing updates to your hb by yourself?
  3. Should I package all the stuff up into an install.zip that you install yourself with wMenu, or should I automatically install it where it needs to go?

What kind of other stuff would you be interested in?

Hi

I am really happy to read this news!

thinking small:
maybe you can do some kind of homebrew preparer for the vita.

thinking huge
Also, i do not know if it is possible at all, but would be very good to be able to download apps from PSN store, thru the CMA.

A sort of "homebrew preparer" is definitely one of the main things I'd like to do. Don't know if a PSN client is even possible considering how much Sony loves swimming in DRM.

Maybe manage our inslalled homebrews,

like make a backup of the selected homebrews and restore it later,

Like you have 2GB of homebrews, but would like to install a PS Vita game, and you are with no space for both.

So you backup all your homebrews to your mac with (OPEN CMA), after that you delete some homebrews(with OPEN CMA) and download the new game(from vita PSN Store).

I would really like to see a way to indiviually backup/restore game saves if that is possible?

With regards your questions;

A. "sync" I would say would be better than the "drag-drop" method
B. Auto updating homebrew support would be excellent - could you get it to include homebrew apps and not just HBL or is that where you were going?
C. Auto install would be great and would make more sense if you offered an auto update method as you can ensure that all the files are put where they are supposed to be.
