"The network features have been disabled."

So we all know the woes of the PS Vita, some of which are understandable, but this one, this one is beyond me. Why does the Vita disconnect from the internet when it's not in use by the current application? In this certain circumstance that I'm talking about, I'm playing Gravity Rush but the network features are shut off causing this massive delay when receiving messages and always having to reconnect to the PSN when looking at my friends list. I guess you can argue that the Friends App isn't integrated into the OS which is why it has to reconnect when exiting (or in this case switching away from it), but my main point here is why are networking features being shut off? I can understand it from the 3G point-of-view, don't want to waste data. I guess coming from the Nintendo 3DS and how it's always connected to the Internet and automatically at start-up caused me to have higher expectations on the PS Vita. Is the Vita just not as powerful as I was led to believe then? Or is there still hope, it's just up to Sony to get their act together?
