Doom ingame menu***save option?

Is there a way to open the in game menu when I press start it just pauses or when hitting select just goes to map and PS home button just launches me to the vita home screen, I really want to save my games n not having to start over.

Is there a way to open the in game menu when I press start it just pauses or when hitting select just goes to map and PS home button just launches me to the vita home screen, I really want to save my games n not having to start over.

I use two doom engines, doom legacy and another, and they both let you save. In fact, doom legacy has controls setup perfectly for the vita, like they were psychic about how it was going to be laid out before that thing was even thought of.
